Ads!!!!

So happy for you bunni, hope its a good investment.:D

Just out of curiosity, can the ads be placed anywhere else? Like on the bottom left where there is a ton of empty space? Or is there anyway to put it above the tabs at the top of the page?

i doubt that they'd let that happen. an ad is susposed to be in your face, the first thing you see on a page. its just something we have to deal with

Hello do you have erectile dysfunction? Then try Levitra

Is your penis the size of a No 2 pencil eraser? Then try Enzyte™ and be like smiling bob!

Oh joy......

Eh, I don't have those ads, I have videogame stuff, which kinda makes sense as I play a lot of videogames. What do those ads say about you, MPM? :D

Gunmaster45 04-25-2009 10:27 PM

Well the ads are annoying but I'm happy bunni can have a bit more money to keep the site running.

I hear google ads are free and give you money, do yahoo ads do the same?

Ads=money for site=more space for pages on movies nobody's ever heard of, much less seen.

yeah, I hear you. But there are two distinct philosophies at work at IMFDB.

(a) Theory A : (which I originally had and still lean towards) is the theory that we have a limited number of movie pages, only pages that are 100% complete and professional looking and only films where the firearm has a noteworthy role in the film. Not a movie where the firearm is completely incidental. My litmus test here is whether or not people even know the movie and whether or not they will 'ever' ask the question, "What guns were in that movie?" (I'm not so hot on having a page for 'the obscure cinema of Khazakstan" because I know that 99.99% of the visitors here would have never seen it)

(b) Theory B: We should be like IMDB. We should be the ultimate and complete movie database of every movie EVER MADE that had a GLIMPSE of a firearm in it. There are positive aspects to THIS philosophy as well, but the major downside is that IMDB is a massive database, taking up dozens and dozens of high end servers, has tons of advertising, takes membership dues for IMDB Pro and has dozens of PAID MODS. I'm not so hot on listing every single obscure movie, but I'm not ardently opposed to them since SOMEONE had to be interested enough to make the page. But listing thousands of lame movie entries will TAX the servers for IMFDB.

Despite the two different philosophies, we can agree that we must make sure that (a) our info is accurate and (b) our pages are 100% complete and don't look like crap.

Take PhoenixEnt's pages. He makes SURE he has the page 100% complete before he creates it!

Thanks for the compliment MPM on the pages I have created. It does take longer to post pages but I don't think it's a race to create the most pages. I just like to get them as accurate as possible and that takes time. :D

I agree on both of your points on how IMFDB should be although I lean a little bit more to point B. But to be like IMDB takes a ton of research to fill out the page not sure if most would go to that extreme.

As for the ads to me it's no problem it helps Bunni keep this going and growing.:)

I try to avoid building the entire movie page at once because if my computer freezes (which it has in the past while I was working), I lose all my work. And it is much harder to work on the computer when it has a big fist hole in it :D.

Do what I do...copy and paste the text into Word. I save back-ups on my HD all the time.
