Yeah. Both him and James McAvoy gave awesome performances in it. And at least McAvoy has had a pretty successful career since that film.

I just saw Gone Girl. EXCELLENT film. It's probably one of the best that I've seen all year.

funkychinaman 10-07-2014 05:30 PM

This show has been on my to-do list for a few years now. As for getting around the getting blown up part, they did the same thing in Sledge Hammer. It was a bit awkward, but they got a full season out of it.

Between this and canceling Community, I think the word to describe NBC is "rudderless."

Kojima chose all guns to be fictional because the portrayal of the real, licensed guns may constitute copyright infringement. Plus he's a pragmatist, so rather than changing the gun name and keeping the appearances the same like earlier Counter Strike do in the past, he decided to make fictional gun, probably to avoid getting sued. But in the eyes of a majority of gamers who are not gun savvy, it's a cool looking gun, so why not?

As for the slings, I don't know about that. I imagined it's one of advanced rubber-y battle suit feature that Snake wearing that makes the gun floating on his side.

Excalibur 10-08-2014 12:42 AM

Actually I call bullshit on being sued by gun makers on the idea that they don't patent the image of guns, just the names of guns. There was a recent article about how gun companies own the rights to guns but no the image of guns being used in games and game companies would have to pay so that they can use gun company logos and names in their games.

I have not seen a single interview with Kojima nor from Konami on an official reason why all the guns are fictional when in all the previous games, they have been using real depictions of guns. It's been a staple of MGS to glorified what guns Snake is holding. In MGS1, there's a funny scene between Snake wanting to trade his MK 23 for Meryl's Desert Eagle. MGS2, when Snake picked up a USP, it was pointed out that it was a USP. In MGS3, there are codec conversations describing what gun you are equipped with and in MGS4, it is practically in love with the M4.

And with the amount of budget and development time spent on this game, I seriously doubt Konami didn't have the money to buy the name rights for guns let alone use images of guns since there is now law in selling a product that has only digital representations of guns.

And in some cases not even that; see also Colt getting their trademark on "M4" yanked.

Adapting a book that sold 100 million copies is a no-brainer. Save your scorn for the millions of readers who paid money for a poorly written Twilight fan-fic.

I've never been able to understand how they ever had it. How do you trademark the government designation?

Excalibur 10-08-2014 04:08 PM

Actually not really, if you look at our side of the HK 416. Originally to be marketed as the "HK M4," the name was altered in an out-of-court settlement with Colt following a lawsuit over the latter's M4 trademark: Colt ultimately lost this trademark after Bushmaster Firearms refused to settle in the same way and the term "M4" was legally genericised as a name for carbine-length AR15 pattern rifles. HK has not yet altered the weapon's name in light of this, or indicated any plan to do so.

So for a military designation for any guns, it really can't be patent.

I remember the HK case, and I thought it was weird then. I can understand why they won't change it now, HK416 is now well-established, and that IS something that can be trademarked.

Though it's weird that Daniel Defense this passed year sued Remington for using their slogan...even though it wasn't the complete slogan. Remington has "Lighter, stronger, and even more badass" as opposed to DD's "Lighter, Stronger, Better" and had chevrons pointing down instead of DD's pointing right.

Is that really a slogan or more or a description?

I dunno. I'm just glad that DC are actually doing something to compete with Marvel.

And speaking of Marvel, I'm really pissed that they're adapting that piece-of-crap storyline Civil War.

Looks like this project is still moving forward. Then again, if the live action has the nudity of the original...

Better than Margot Robbie but still not what I would have imagined. On a related note, Margot Robbie is apparently up for a role in the DC "Suicide Squad" film. If she is playing Harley Quinn then this seems like a good bit of casting, however if the previous lineup which was rumoured last week is correct (which is frankly awefull and I have a hard time believing that WB would be so overtly self destructive) and the only women is Vixen, then it is a terrible choice.

If I were DC, I would go with a mix of the New 52 line up and the line-uo featured in Jon Ostrander's run on the series.

funkychinaman 10-20-2014 04:36 AM

Just what is it about Tom Hardy that makes people want to cast him as villains?

So did they bring in real sex offenders to help Shia LaBeouf with his mustache as well?

I can't believe they had a real working Tiger in the film though. That has to be a first.

No, I believed that they got a retired porn star from the 70s to help him with the mustache.

But to be fair, the entire cast of Fury gave out really good performances. And the fight scenes with the tank were pretty awesome.

I believe it is. It is owned by Bovington Tank Museum and although it has been running for about 10 years, I think they only finished the full restoration a couple of years ago.

I'm now really hyped for this!

And James Spader sounds pretty creepy as Ultron.

New Halo feature. Looks like they spent more money than on Forward Unto Dawn. More variety of weapons too.

Rewrite it so it has nothing to do with the original material?

It looks like it'll tie into Halo 5. It also appears that it'll be feature-length, but released in short episodes like Forward Unto Dawn.

More like long, drawn out, boring, confusing and ends up pissing off the fans with more questions that'll be explained in a 6 dvd set

S&Wshooter 10-25-2014 02:08 AM

St. Vincent was good, just don't go in expecting a quirky comedy like the trailers portray it to be. It's funny, but it is closer to a drama if anything

SPEMack618 10-29-2014 03:14 PM

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The brutality displayed by the Americans towards the SS was especially visceral to me.

Both Grandpa and my Great Uncle crossed the Rhine, were liberally decorated, and though they never built a shadow box or what have, prominently displayed assorted DeathHead insignia they'd come across.
