I dunno.

Speaking of Iron Man, I made a fan cast for him a while back:

I just got back from seeing "Seven Psychopaths". It was better than I expected, and I was expecting it to be pretty good. Not enough Tom Waits, though

SPEMack618 10-25-2012 12:42 AM

Saw Argo this past weekend. It was pretty good. Awesome scene where a CS grenade ricochets off the pavement and hits an Iranian in the face.

Like that scene in "Generation Kill", but better because you are sitting there just wanting the Marines to start spraying into the ground.

S&Wshooter 10-25-2012 01:19 AM

Return of the Living Dead is turning out to be awesome

I liked it, too, but seriously wish Ben Affleck would stop casting himself as the lead in his own movies (before he becomes the next Kenneth Branagh).

I saw it, and it was pretty brilliant. And what do you mean by "the next Kenneth Branagh" (the only film of his I've seen is Thor).

Henry V, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, Wild Wild West...

funkychinaman 10-25-2012 02:50 AM

Looking up Branagh's filmography also revealed that they're doing another Jack Ryan film, with Chris Pine in the lead role. Chris Pine? He's supposed to play a Naval Academy lecturer and CIA analyst? I also saw they're finally getting around to doing Without Remorse, which I think has been kicked around for over a decade.

Spartan198 10-26-2012 12:49 AM

After the "Hat Trick" mission (a reproduction of the Richard Phillips rescue), I'm a little disappointed MoH: Warfighter didn't have one reproducing the bin Laden take down. :(

Aside from not being able to shoot Osama, I like like Warfighter. The graphics is a whole lot better than MoH and the story feels a lot more intense than BF3.

One of my problems with the game is the breaching moments. In real life, you take on your sector of the room and trust your buddies take out their sector. In the game, it expects you and you ALONE to take out the whole room. There could be 4 guys in all directions and orientations and you are expected to take them all off and you start from the center of the room. On the harder difficulties, this is annoying impossible.

Especially roles that isn't a white guy. Mendez is not while.

I've given up on ever seeing a Tom Clancy movie done well on screen. Harrison Ford would have been perfect for Jack Ryan for ever, even though I though Liev Schrieber was a passable John Clark, and had they not "rebooted" the series, would have played well as the young John Kelly.

Without Remorse is my favorite of the Clancy books.

I'm torn between Without Remorse and Red Storm Rising. I remember them talking about making a Without Remorse film back in the nineties. I don't know why this is so hard. I'd be fine with them copping out and just making it a stand-alone film.

Arnold hitting the gym and getting back into Conan shape should be half the story right there. It'd make a great documentary.

Last year's Conan reboot was not that bad and, as big a fan I am of the original Conan the Barbarian film (and the Conan franchise as a whole), Momoa was far better in the title role than Arnold. :(

But I can understand WHY they'd ignore a remake, but why ignore Conan the Destroyer? It's not like anything of consequence actually happened. Did they just want an excuse just in case Grace Jones called?

Yes, and it needs to be a stand alone film since the Jack Ryan continuity is shot to hell.

John Kelly just doesn't work unless he's a 'Nam era SEAL.

For crying out loud, the man makes John Plaster get a hard on.

commando552 10-30-2012 10:27 PM

George Lucas has sold his soul, kind of literally. He has sold Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion, and they will be making Episodes 7, 8, and 9 to start being released in 2015, then every two years. I fear that the entire expanded universe is about to be totally flushed down the toilet... Or they could make movies about the Thrawn trilogy which would be great, but no way this would happen.

Excalibur 10-31-2012 02:34 AM

They want to set the story 30 years later, which means they are bringing back some of the old actors. It could be possible that they might not even use the EU as a source.

funkychinaman 10-31-2012 03:18 AM

Keep in mind, when Lucas announced that he was making another trilogy of Star Wars films fifteen years ago, people were actually excited. Now, people are filled with dread.

I'm going to avoid these like the plague, even if Lucas isn't directing. The only thing he cares about today is making more money.

Swordfish941 10-31-2012 10:09 AM

Bad news, everyone, the new Star Wars films won't be based on the Thrawn trilogy:

I didn't seriously think there would be any way they would base it on the Thrawn trilogy, was just a foolish dream. TBH I don't know why any die-hard fans would have assumed this as George Lucas has had the story outline for episodes 7, 8 and 9 since he made the original films. Not sure if this is still the story that they will end up running with, but me current assumption is that they story is only based on the films.

There is a guy at Lucasarts who maintains acontinuity Holocron (database) who basically keeps all of the the parts of the EU straight, retcons things and states what is higher priority canon. He is going to have a fucking seizure when these films come out.

SPEMack618 10-31-2012 02:42 PM

No offense impliead or intended to any of the EU fans out there, but to me, with the exception of the X-Wing series, I was not that big of a fan of all the EU stuff.

The Wierd It 10-31-2012 04:19 PM

Aside from a few of the video games I never really did anything with the EU in.

I am a fan of the expanded Star Wars stuff, and I would be the first to admit that some of it is garbage. When you consider that the series contains hundreds of novels, comic books and games, it isn't all going to be gold. However there is some stuff in there that I really like by a few authors like Michael Stackpole (Rogue Squadron books and "I, Jedi"), Aaron Allston (Wraith Squadron books), Timothy Zahn (The Thrawn trilogy and Hand of Thrawn duology) and Karen Traviss (Republic Commando series).

SPEMack618 10-31-2012 06:22 PM

Oh, don't get me wrong I loved the Rogue and Wraiths, which I lump together under the X-Wing umbrella, and I though Ambush at Bakura along with Shadows of the Empire were good, but other than that, I just sorta shrug and go "meh", and showing my inner nerd here, I read a fair chunk of the EU books, and comics, really loved the ones talking about Col Celchu and the dark, arly days of the Alliance.

k9870 10-31-2012 06:31 PM

im liking assassins creed 3 but i dont have tomahawk or second pistol, i hate waiting to unlock things

-actually gota pick up tomhawk at store, wish i had second pistol though there useful for heavy enemies

Excalibur 11-01-2012 04:04 PM

Fighting seems a little more tougher than in the previous game. Maybe it's because I kinda suck, but the introduction of the muskets really changes the dynamics of battle when you engage a bunch of guys.

The story seems a little slow to pick up. I thought I was playing Connor's dad forever

Eh, no biggie. I've finished Kingdom Hearts II with its five-hour prologue.

Bring it on.

Try watching some of Branagh's directorial efforts from the '90s (namely, "Henry V", "Frankenstein", and "Hamlet", among others), where he also plays the lead role. While I don't think he's a bad actor, he's far better as a filmmaker, and so many of his movies suffer for having him in the lead (IMO).

Sadly, Ben Affleck seems to be doing pretty much the same thing nowadays. I think when "The Town" came out, I complained that I wished Affleck had cast himself in Jeremy Renner's role, and vice-versa.

And while we can argue about the results, I give the producers credit for trying to keep the franchise fresh.

When I said the "worst in memory", I meant within my own living memory. Although I was born in 1985, I'm not old enough to remember any 007 movies prior to "GoldenEye" (which is the first I saw in theaters). There are plenty of Bond movies I like less than "Quantum of Solace", but none within the last 20 years.

As for keeping the franchise fresh, this is a case of not all progress being good. My intuition is that the franchise is better served by directors who have demonstrated adeptness at directing quality summer action films rather than Oscar bait. Martin Campbell is exactly that type of director; Marc Forster and Sam Mendes are clearly not.

SPEMack618 11-02-2012 01:05 AM

With the exception of Moonraker or perhaps Octopussy, I couldn't stomach any of the Roger Moore films.

That being said, I liked both of the Timothy Dalton films.

The Living Daylights was my first exposure to Bond, and I still really like it. But I read a few years ago that the script was originally written with Roger Moore in mind, and if you watch it again with that in mind, it all sort of makes sense, especially compared to how dark Licence to Kill was.

I think the Bond franchise is one of the few that can afford to mix it up a bit. People are going to go see Bond films because they're Bond films, not because of who the director is. Besides, I don't know how good QoS could've been even with Martin Campbell at the helm.

Here's a hypothetical then: which Bon film would you rather see, one by Quentin Tarantino (who apparently has always wanted to do so) or one by established summer action movie director Michael Bay?

funkychinaman 11-02-2012 05:00 PM

I started playing Dead Island yesterday, thinking it'd be a quick zombie game. 11 straight hours later, I was barely into Act 2. I hate it when that happens.

k9870 11-05-2012 04:13 AM

so in ac3 im being chased by british guards and run into a patriot fort hoping they fight, but instead they team up on me?

While Bond films will probably always make money simply for being Bond films, regardless of who plays Bond or directs them, I should still hope that a desire to ensure quality entertainment is not too much to ask for.

Bad comparison. I think Michael Bay should be banned from going anywhere near the director's chair, under any circumstances. That's like asking me whether I would rather eat a tasty, fresh piece of pie, or eat the flesh off my hand.

If you asked me whether I would prefer Tarantino to Martin Campbell, I would still say Campbell without thinking about it. Tarantino may be a talented filmmaker, but he is talented at making a certain type of movie. Bond movies are not, and should never be, anything like "Reservoir Dogs" or "Pulp Fiction".

SPEMack618 11-06-2012 06:26 AM

All a Bond movie needs is a villain who wants to destroy the western world, inept intelligence officials who doubt Commander Bond, a hot chick who may or may not be of use but should be required to have atleast three panty shots during the course of the movie, and a desperate attack by commandoes led by Commandr Bond who is armed only with a pop gun going up against guys with AKs.

I present you with the rough plots of Thunderball, Diamonds are Forever, Goldfinger You Only Live Twice, Octopussy, The World is Not Enough, The Living Daylights, which coincidentally I consider some of the better Bond films, excluding Goldeneye, which is my favorite simply because the Gitmo Marines don't arrive until after Bond has fought all the Janus mercenary hoardes with his mouse gun.

Seriously, The World Is Not Enough? The one-two punch of that and Die Another Day actually sent the franchise to the canvas for four years.

BTW, QoS we better than those two by a long shot.
