why does everyone identify 1911s as kimber warriors or remington 700s as m40s.

It seems every unknown 1911 pic somebody suggests its a kimber warrior, even when its nothing alike. then every remington 700 is called a m40 or m24 even when its a plane jane sps or such. Why are guns over-identified

It's the same with someone seeing a tricked out M4 as either a 416 or an 468

I suspect the Remington 700s are because most IMFDB users are interested in military firearms and don't care or bother to learn about sporting guns.

Something must be done. How about you go around and correct it, like I did with the RPG-7's.

usually somebody beats me, ive changed a couple though.

Nyles is pretty much correct. But it's also due to ignorance about real world guns vs. movie guns. You know, like the same people who think that any time you see an FBI Agent carrying a Glock in a movie, it must be a Glock 22 because that's what the FBI carries in real life. Likewise, if you explain to the average IMFDB reader that there aren't very many genuine mil-spec M24s or M40s in private hands, they'd probably fail to understand. I remember reading that an interview with Rock Galotti where he specifically said that the M40s used in "Jarhead" had to be custom-built for the movie (from regular 700s).

Also, can somebody take a look at the "Green Zone" page and tell me what differences are evident between the Remington 700 used by the MET-D sniper and a real M24?
