Home defense weapons and ammo

I keep a 4506 loaded with CORBON brand 230 gr JHP. What about ya'll?

Zulu Two Six 01-09-2010 05:40 AM

being 14 i cannot yet fufil the duties of protecting my family.
although if i had to my shotgun is in the closet and i know where i keep a box of shells

P.S. do you sleep with it underneath your pillow?

Yournamehere 01-09-2010 05:41 AM

I've got my 5906 loaded with 115 gr. 9mm FMJ. I have the money but I'm just not sure how it would feed hollowpoints, and it would be a bit costly to test them out. I have other things to spend/save for. I do prefer Remington Golden Saber ammunition from other guns I've fired it through though.

@ Zulu, I don't sleep with mine under my pillow, as I think that's kind of a silly place to put it, and I frequently reach under my pillow when trying to sleep. I do however have a friend who keeps his Jericho 941 under his pillow at all times.......

Excalibur 01-09-2010 05:48 AM

Under the pillow? That's got to be uncomfortable

k9870 01-09-2010 11:50 AM

I think the bedstand would be more confortable safer and easier to reach.
Remington 870, federal reduced recoil 000 buck.

Markost 01-09-2010 04:08 PM

Nothing, I´m 19 and the legal age is 21, but i´m thinking about a Bersa Thunder and a Maverick (or Spas 12, but it´s a little expensive).

No, for the sole reason of I like having a face in the "not accidentally shot off" variety

MT2008 01-09-2010 06:10 PM

I think the night stand is definitely the way to go. I don't know anybody who sleeps with their pistol under their pillow.

My night stand pistol is a SIG 226 loaded with 115 grain Speer GoldDot rounds. I also have a Mossberg 500 Mariner in my closet, though I rarely load that one or keep it out for defense.

S&Wshooter 01-09-2010 06:14 PM

Makes me wish I had a nightstand. Until I can get my shotty out of the safe I'll just have to stick to my "stab people until I can get to my closet" plan

MT2008 01-09-2010 06:24 PM

If your gun stays in the safe, then by definition, it's pretty much not a home defense weapon.

S&Wshooter 01-09-2010 07:19 PM

I meant that next time I get into the safe, Im going to take my shotgun and stick it on the gunrack above my bed. Until then I'd have to get my 4506 out of the top of my closet if someone breaks in

FirearmFan 01-09-2010 09:20 PM

I typically keep whatever I'm carrying that day either under my bed or on a table next to my bed. Typically that's either a Springer 1911 Loaded Black Stainless .45acp or a Springfield XD .40s&w, but I've also been known to have my Glock 17 or my HK P2000 there too.

As for long guns, I have a bunch of options but the best 3 are either the Mossberg 500 Persuader 12ga, the Bushmaster AR-15, or the AK-47 clone. I typically dont leave those out of the safe though. But at least the safe is in my room.

S&Wshooter 01-09-2010 09:34 PM

I have a couple guns in my personal safe that's in my room, but one is my Browning hunting rifle and the other is my M44, neither of which is even remotely suitable for home defense. Then there's my High Standard, which won't even feed the ammo I use for home defense, so that's out. Above my bed is the Wincheter 88, but there is no way in hell I'm using that for defense unless I really need to. Finally, there is my 4506, which suits my needs but is in my closet because I don't have a nightstand

Bugabear 01-09-2010 09:46 PM

I dont have one but I like my friends style which is a Semi-auto mini-uzi between his bed and the nightstand.

k9870 01-10-2010 03:03 AM

SW shooter, just put it nder your bed, more accessible than a closet, your name here, knowing the 5906s rep it will digest HP ammo all day long. Not to mention 9mm fmj is weak and overpenetrates, a safety concern. And to the mini uzi there, well, a prosecutror will have a field day with them if its ever used, no matter how justified it is.

My mom would fuckin' FREAK if I had a gun under my bed.

S&Wshooter 01-10-2010 06:14 AM

At least I'm not like my father who keeps a Kimber Team Match II on one nightstand, a S&W Airweight in the other, a Ruger Redhawk (with a scope!) on his dresser and a Winchester Model 12 hunting shotgun in 16 Gauge next to his dresser :p

Excalibur 01-10-2010 07:17 AM

The man's prepared for zombies alright.

My buddy's father once said that if anyone were to break into my house it would sound like Call Of Duty :D

Nyles 01-10-2010 07:48 AM

Well, I try not to think of the sea can I'm living in as home, but I keep my Hi Power hanging off the bedpost in my shoulder rig.

Of course that's more of a "get dressed quickly so I can sleep longer" thing than anything.

S&Wshooter 01-10-2010 07:50 AM

I wish I had a Hi-Power

k9870 01-10-2010 11:48 AM

I would love a HP, I ust take out the mag disconnect and it would be perect.

Mad Man 2.0 01-12-2010 05:43 AM

Me too, but I keep my Airgun and my crossbow just for intimidating (it looks tacticool- it´s black!).

It's funny I used to own a Crossbow but the string snapped and I couldn't find a replacement so I just gave the stringless, boltless crossbow to my bff.

SPAS-12 is not only expensive, but also freakin' rare. I'd like to see one of these and touch the recoil before i die.

ManiacallyChallenged 01-28-2010 01:49 AM

Ya'll should live in Oregon.
The age for firearm ownership is 18. 21 for CC, but hey. You can open carry your shit until then.

Yournamehere 01-28-2010 02:22 AM

Whereabouts in Oregon are you? I'm in Salem.

k9870 01-28-2010 02:53 AM

I dont think any US state requires age 20 for longguns.

ManiacallyChallenged 01-28-2010 06:56 PM

Oh shit! YNH is in Salem? I live in Eugene while I'm a school-boy, but Salem is my home town!

What high school do you hail from? 'Cause if it's Sprague I must apologize for SSHS' behavior over the years.

Yournamehere 01-28-2010 08:53 PM

I went to school back in Florida and graduated before I moved up here, though my high school sucked as much as the rest of 'em.
