Most realistic videogame guns

My vote goes to ARMA 2, if only the guns had more recoil, the Dragunov has the recoil of an AR for gods sake!!

Having not played ArmA, I'll have to vote America's Army.

Donkey Kong 64

Arma and America's Army definitely take the winning votes, but since I don't have a PC, when it comes to console games the most realistic I've seen are:

Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 and 2. The gun handling and recoil are off but most of the reloads are proper, and the round in the chamber is a nice touch.

Sniper Elite has proper bullet drop physics and decent gun realism.

The Call of Duty games made by infinity ward have been pretty good about recoil and reloading, they just don't have proper placement and the round in the chamber when they should.

I thought recoil sucked for IW and Treyarch was the one doing muzzle rise.

Yep, but it was kinda rare to see russians with Mg42 (also, bolt-action K43 and Tokarev rifles).

Do you mean the original Grand Theft Auto from 1997?

FrankDaTank1218 07-21-2010 09:13 PM

I also think STALKER had great gun physics and handling.the AK74SU kicked around alot being a mall overheating weapon

STALKER and Call of Cthulhu

SWAT 4, with the exception of the compact 5.56mm NATO assault rifles, since they take significantly longer to aim than the SMGs/PDWs in that game. It's understandable, however, since the point was to ensure game balance and proper use of tactics--whoever has time to cover approaches and aim in usually has the initiative, so you can't simply run and gun as you can in many other shooters.

Probably Red Orchestra,Infiltration, and Raven Shield.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 has some of the most realistic firearms in any game I think:

* Shooting straight is much harder than in most games, and not because the weapons are stupidly inaccurate with a "cone of fire" you have no control over. The weapons are accurate, but it's challenging to hit anything due to aiming sway and heavy recoil that you have to work to control. Stance and fatigue also affect aiming accuracy.

* There is no crosshair, and the weapon isn't fixed to the center of the screen but moves around with as you look around, making firing from the hip wildly inaccurate. Aiming is done with iron sights or a scope.

* The models and textures are extremely detailed. There are few if any goofs, the guns are not mirrored.

* The animations (especially the reload animations) are the best I've seen in any game ever. They're natural looking, technically sound and take an appropriately long time. No one second reloads here. Weapons have two different reload animations (for dry and partial reloads) when appropriate.

* Ammunition is divided into magazines rather than a pool of bullets that magically transform into full magazines on demand. Performing a tactical reload puts the partially empty mag back in your pouch to be used later, and +1 loading is simulated too.

* Most of the rifles have an optional bayonet attachment which, when attached, slightly affects accuracy.

* Weapons can be braced against any suitable surface to steady aim.

* Machine guns overheat if fired in extended bursts. Extreme abuse causes the barrel to warp and fail. The German machine guns' barrels can be switched out for a spare if necessary.

* Having fired a bolt-action rifle, you have to work the bolt manually by pressing the fire button a second time. This means you can choose to either work the bolt right away or wait, so you can see if you hit your target, for instance.
