I feel bad doubting "Lone Survivor" because Peter Berg seems like a decent, thoughtful guy - patriotic as well as self-effacing (i.e. he's openly admitted responsibility for "Battleship" sucking, plus he was chill enough to mock himself in "Californication"). Unfortunately, he's a very hit-or-miss filmmaker, and his military thrillers tend to represent his biggest misses, which is disappointing given that he obviously takes the subject matter seriously and tries hard to do justice to the sacrifice of our servicemen.

The Agent Carter series got picked up.

If this should ever get made somewhere down the road, I hope it's a GTA-style sandbox game.

Last I heard it was cancelled.

The Payday series is very similar, unless you specifically want to be able to play as a screaming Vincent Hanna.

funkychinaman 01-22-2014 11:49 PM

Well this ought to be interesting:

http://www.uproxx.com/filmdrunk/2014...g-at-premiere/

I borrowed the first film for my dad. He said he couldn't get through it, it was too brutal.

Spartan198 01-23-2014 03:23 PM

Sounds like my kind of movie.

funkychinaman 01-23-2014 09:42 PM

A slew of new clips and promo images from the new Robocop. I still have no idea what the SMG might be. I also see a Beretta Rx4 Storm in one of the shots. The Auto 9 also makes an appearance in the poster on the bottom of the second page, although it might just be a cameo.

Excalibur 01-24-2014 02:56 AM

The fleshy hand on Rebootcop still bothers me, unless they are saying it just looks like skin, otherwise, a shotgun blast can take it right off.

Spartan198 01-24-2014 03:21 AM

Yeah, I'm not pleased about that either, but I'm gonna go in assuming that it's going to be a pivotal plot point that we aren't yet aware of. One of the clips hints that Murphy's wife might have a bigger role this time than the minor one she played in the original and maybe that has something to do with it?

Still, I wish this was a sequel-reboot in the style of the recent Evil Dead flick rather than a remake, though.

funkychinaman 01-24-2014 05:17 AM

It'd weird to think about, but the makeup in the original was better. In the original, it looked like Murphy's face was grafted to the machine. Here it just looks like a guy in a suit.

Excalibur 01-24-2014 03:42 PM

I think in this one it is a guy in a suit

It really wouldn't Robocop if it was just a suit. I hope that's not the case.

funkychinaman 01-27-2014 07:32 PM

MS buys the Gears of War franchise from Epic. Normally, I'd be worried, but it can only get better from GoW: Judgment, right? Right?

It's an odd jump from Community to Captain America, but apparently they're doing something right.

I can't imagine what the green band trailer would look like.

I was wondering this weekend if it was considered a spoiler to refer to the Winter Soldier as Bucky, since I'm not sure if that's something casual fans are aware of and they haven't actually hinted at it in the trailers. But then Marvel/Disney made it really easy by just releasing a picture of Winter Soldier without his mask on.

All of the recent trailers show him clearly without his mask on, which kind of surprised my as I thought this would be a big reveal. As they are making no attempt to hide it, I would guess his identity it probably known for most of the film.

High time for a Transporter reboot, if you ask me. I mean, it's been... twelve years... after all.

I think it is stretching it to describe him as a "Game of Thrones Star", he was only in 3 episodes and has been recast now that they have made the character a regular.

Buried in the link:

- There's a Transporter TV series?. And it's been on for over a year? I'm surprised none of our European users have touched it yet.

- I honestly thought a movie with as many gunfights and car chases as a Transporter movie would cost more than $30 million.

Spartan198 02-11-2014 02:40 PM

Is rebooting really necessary? Couldn't they just cast him as a different lead character? I really doubt Frank Martin is the only wheelman in France.

But reboot or not, I don't see this being successful without Statham.

commando552 02-11-2014 03:45 PM

Also, unless my memory is playing tricks on me his character was meant to be American right (I distinctly remember him having one of the worst American accents ever)? If that is the case, it is odd that they have used Brits for both the TV series and the reboot. Or possibly the accent was so bad people didn't realise he wasn't meant to be British.

I don't really remember, since I haven't seen the original since it came out. I think they had an image of him from him army days though, that may shed some light on it.

Does Statham have an "American" accent? I just assumed he's played a Brit in everything he's ever done, or has he joined the Sean Connery/Liam Neeson/Sean Bean this-is-just-the-way-they-talk-deal-with-it club.

I'll need to check it out when I get home as its bugging me now, but he was definitely trying to put on some kind of accent in the original Transporter (and possibly the second one) as it is frequently at the top of various "worst movie accents ever" lists. I tried finding a clip on youtube, but all of them are from the 3rd one which I haven't seen, but he just has his regular accent in that so either he just forgot to do it or they realised it was diabolical and retconned it.

The trailer is on youtube. He does sound a bit different, but it understandably doesn't have that much dialogue in it. It does do its job though, now I want to go rewatch the entire film.

I just watched it, and in the picture you can't really see what he is wearing as he is sitting in the cockpit of a helicopter (civilian by the look of it). However, with it there is also a set of US Woodland BDUs with a UN patch, and a bronze star in a box, so yeah he is definitely meant to be an American.

funkychinaman 02-12-2014 04:17 PM

American remake of District B13, because Americans are embarrassingly resistant to reading subtitles. (And it appears that David Belle has accepted his limitations as an actor.)

Subtitles can distract from what's happening on screen and vice versa, though. I watched Chanbara Beauty: The Movie - Vortex on Netflix last month and had this problem constantly throughout it.

That's a lot of punctuation in one title.

Excalibur 02-13-2014 03:05 AM

As an Anime Otaku, I've grown accustomed to reading subtitles from Anime that hasn't gotten an English dub yet. I do eventually watch it in English to compare differences in the languages, but to me, getting the show right now is better.

I've gotten use to reading subtitles as well.

On the plus side, that's four pages we don't have to do season splits for.

The first trailer for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie came out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjmxiqiozBU

Looks good visually, but I just hope they don't go overboard with the comedy.

Excalibur 02-20-2014 03:52 AM

I just saw it and now I got the Hoff singing that song stuck in my head.

Personally, I don't know anything about the comics of this bunch, so I have no expectations for it other than it'll be the same big blockbuster funding as all the other Marvel movies.

funkychinaman 02-23-2014 03:51 AM

I never watched Heroes, but the impression I got from my friends who did was that it started out really well, but totally collapsed and staggered towards cancellation. That's why I'm puzzled as to why it's coming back.

Season 1 was good. Season 2 started going downhill from the beginning. Sylar stuck around far too long for a psycho serial killer who took a katana thought the chest in the S1 finale, Claire never did anything despite being indestructible and immortal, Mohinder got a serious case of stupid, all the interesting characters got wasted, and the series not only introduced Maya- a vastly annoying character with an AoE death aura- but kept her FAR too long.

Seriously, the entire show was badly handled. I hope the new version is a huge flop.

Once again, I have to ask: Why not just bring back Law & Order?

ANOTHER Law and Order? We've already got Original Flavor, UK, Trial By Jury, LA, Criminal Intent, and SVU, which is still on. Sure, it would give another half-dozen actors a few decades of steady work, but why would you want to and where would you put it? NYC is kinda full, CSI has Vegas, LA has enough shows. Law and Order DC? Law and Order Newark? Law and Order Episode VIII: The Hunt for Even More Lawyers? L&O Episode IX: Dick Wolf is God of TV?

Also, why can't Netflix get all 50-odd seasons of all the L&Os?

All but SVU and UK have been cancelled. Since the show is plot-driven, you can keep costs low by replacing actors whenever they get too expensive, and since everything is "ripped from the headlines," the show stays fresh. Filming in NYC also gives the show a steady pool of theater talent for guest spots. And it's not like NBC doesn't like working with Dick Wolf, he's got THREE SHOWS with the network.

Either way, if they made Law & Order: Tulsa, I'd watch it.

(And I have no idea why Netflix stopped at Season 8 for L&O. The show's been gone for over three years, and they haven't budged. And it's not like they're on another service like Hulu or Amazon, it's just not available.)

funkychinaman 02-25-2014 10:03 PM

In an ideal world, this film sets up Pacific Rim 2.
