Hello all

Hello all,

Hi, I'm Rockwolf66 and I found the IMFDB by accident while web surfing. As I like firearms, Movies, and videogames I thought that i should contribure to the site as best I can.

Excalibur 02-26-2009 03:28 AM

Read the rules and look at other pages for examples on format.

Rockwolf66 02-26-2009 03:57 AM

So just like Wikipedia only so far there is not any real standards of format.

So far on the few pages that i have made I have tried to have a standard look to the pages I have made.

Gunmaster45 02-26-2009 05:50 AM

We follow a very basic format, although we all have a slightly different style. As long as you write the name properly, link the guns, actors, etc. and add a stand alone gun picture for comparison, you're in the clear.

What amazes me is User:Cutaway has been on the site almost since it started and he still posts like an anonymous user. UGH!

Rockwolf66 02-26-2009 06:43 AM

My basic format is to give a little blurb about the film then break the firearms down by catigory...ie. Pistols, SMGs, Shotguns, rifles ect.

As far as firearms pages I am giving some info about the firearm and then listing film tellivision and videogames.

So far I have created pages for more unusual entries. heck I need to figure out a way to get DVD copies of a about three of my B grade films and then figure out a way to do screencaps.(Can we tell I prefer time on the range to time watching films?)

Gunmaster45 02-26-2009 08:23 PM

If you take screencaps from a DVD, make sure you cut off the widescreen bars. It is a pain to chop them off for other people and the page looks bad with widescreen shots.

I love shoooting, I'm about to go outside and put some rounds through a Smith & Wesson Model 14 Masterpiece - .38spl. The bluing is kind of smudgey because I didn't wipe it down one time and left it for a while but some PB blaster and 4-0 steal wool will fix it.

if you were in California I might be willing to let you put a few magazines through my Remington M-700P in .300 WinMag.

Lets see as far as Movies go.

I would love to figure out how to screencap Kiss of the Dragon. Unfortunantly my copies of The Exterminator and Nemesis are on VHS so I can't screencap them.

Gunmaster45 02-27-2009 12:43 AM

A MAGAZINE fed Rem 700 police, NICE! I never thought I'd say this but I wish I was in Cali right now (no offense to you, just the politicians and laws bother me).

If you have a DVD disc drive on your computer, stick in a disc and see if the DVD player system you have has a image capture button. Or press The button that says "Print Scrn SysRq" (top right of keyboard) and you capture whatever is on the screen (this allows you to screencap things such as youtube vids or online site vids too). If you have a laptop, get back to me on this.

If the player doesn't, look on the net for one to download.

Us admins. do a lot of this, we can likely talk you through it.

MT2008 02-27-2009 02:50 AM

I feel that you have not been given a warm enough welcome yet, so, from me, WELCOME to the site! ;)

And yeah, I'll be the first to admit we are kinda fascist about users following page format nowadays, just cause we've had lots of people trying stuff that doesn't work and doesn't look good aesthetically.

But being on the range is cool, too. :D

Gunmaster,
the factory Detachable magazines only hold three shots. If you really wanted to experiance something that you can't in New York, I sugest the Albany Winter Shoot in Oregon. I'm sure that if you are willing to scrounge up the ammo and the M13 link I can talk a friend into letting you try out his HK-21E.

Yournamehere 02-27-2009 03:49 AM

Dude, if he won't take you up on that, I will. I'm moving to Salem and I'll be eager as hell to get some trigger time in, I'll be fresh out of high school on summer break doing nothing but gun work. And an HK21, hell yeah I'll go dutch on that!

Gunmaster45 02-27-2009 05:17 AM

You take it, I don't even have a drivers liscense yet! How would I get their, walk? And I"m unemployed, so flight is out too. But an HK21 sounds nice. Then again, we did just have that huge discussion on how over rated H&K is.

Factory mags are only 3 rounds? I thought it was five. Hmm.

If I ever get my one wish, I'll get some trigger time at Knob Creek in Kentucky, one of the biggest and most famous machine gun shoots in the US. Ever since I saw the episode of Mail Call covering it, it's been my dream.

Remember how I said I was going to shoot today? Well:
Today I remembered I suck with handguns. I know my stance and all, but I don't shoot enough to get the hang of it. I'll need to take a course or go somewhere with lots of ammo. I never hit the spray can once with the Masterpiece (got a nice ring around it though :P), and only hit it once with my Custom M1911 with the compensator. I need a lot of ammo and some free time. I watch the Bianchi pistols competion and wonder "How the hell do they do it?"

Well that's how many .300 Winmag rounds fit in a Remington Factory detachable magazine. If I was fireing .308s I could fit five of them in the same space.

as for my friend's HK-21E it tends to be ammo sensitive. as for his G-3A3 and MP-5 I have heard no complaints about them. Trust me the MP-5 is a sweet setup, just look in Armed America and see for yourself.

Gunmaster45 02-27-2009 07:32 PM

If you write gun names on the site in the future, try to de-hyphenate it a bit. On the site we don't write MP-5, we write MP5. Same for M-16/M16. Just the site's writing style, so I hope you follow it.

Maybe I missed that you said it was .300 Win Mag. Now it makes sense.

Yournamehere 02-28-2009 01:12 AM

I knew the .30-06 held 4, but not the .308 or the .300. Also, who cares if it's an HK, it's damn rare and people will be impressed that you fired a machinegun like that. Course I'll settle for the MP5, cause 9mm would be cheaper and I could be tacticool as hell with it. Bolt release reloads and stuff.

Also, the hell you mean you suck with handguns? I heard you go on a rant about groups at 30 yards, when I can manage a head sized one at 10. Does this mean I suck? Or do you have some unrealistically high standard for yourself?

You don't hate the charging handle on the G3?

Excalibur 02-28-2009 02:46 AM

What don't you like about the charging handle of the G3?

Well, basically, you have to reach almost all the way over to the end of the barrel to grab the charging handle, and when you cock it, you have to really pump it hard. It's a lot more awkward to use than the charging handle of, say, the FAL (which is conveniently located on the side of the receiver, within easier reaching distance).

I think I've also mentioned before how I hate the "slimline" forearms that most G3s have, though thankfully H&K abandoned that style.

Gunmaster45 02-28-2009 03:59 AM

Well, the gun I used was a .22 LR Smith & Wesson (Model 42 I think) with a big red-dot sight mounted on top (plus I got to put a lot of rounds through it to get used to it, since .22s are much cheaper). Plus it had a barrel weight and in .22, staying on target is pretty easy. With the sight I was really good, but with an open sight .45, I faired much worse. Same with the .38 Masterpiece.

I'm sure you're a great shooter, but I was bragging about good shooting when I shouldn't have (I need to be good with more than one race gun). Thanks for catching that. I'll be sure to be the next Jerry Miculek before I try to brag again. ;)

Yournamehere 02-28-2009 04:32 AM

I ain't great, I'm adequate. I get roughly 6" groups at 10 yards firing about a shot every couple seconds, or as soon as I can get a clear sight picture. I'm confident that I can hit someone in a fight if need be, or in my house, but I'm not good comp wise.

Gunmaster45 02-28-2009 05:12 AM

Same here, unless my target is a one inch dot wielding a gun, I think a center mass shot to an attacker wouldn't be impossible for me. Maybe a head shot if they are close. Then again, I hope I don't need to be in any situation that calls for it. The only gun I keep in my house with ammo is that nice 870 I showed you guys and that isn't good for inside because it is so long.

If I ever build the Para-Colt custom, I'd carry that for concealed carry.

Rockwolf66 02-28-2009 08:25 AM

Gunmaster don't feel too bad. Last time I went Rifleshooting with a partner I got my butt kicked by a 60 year old man with a bad heart, two bad lungs and Neuropathy* in the hands.

As for that shotgun of your's I wouldn't worry about length that much if you practice enough. Besides inside a home you should be baracading yourself inside and playing Gandalf not Elmer Fud.

*hope I got the name correct but it's a painful condition where the lining of the nerves gets worn thin.

Gunmaster45 02-28-2009 10:44 AM

"I"m gonna catch me some wobbers. Haw-aw-aw-aw!"

The gun is unwieldly and has still never been fired, but that'll change eventually. My house has small doors and hallways, most of which would not even fit the shotgun turned horizontally straight across it.

Anyway, I just think a pistole would be more useful indoors but those damn laws are holding me back until I'm 18 (just so I can legally fire handguns or co-own one) or 21 so I can independently own one.

But in the politicians eyes, If I had a handgun, I'd inevitabley shoot up a school or accidentally kill a sibling, because all us gun loving kids are street hoods who love violence and death and are accidents waiting to happen. I'll go play some GTA4 and practice buying hookers and gunning down cops. *sigh*
