Is this a HK G36?

http://secretdefense.blogs.liberatio...c16c970b-200wiThis is a photo of Sgt Konrad Rygiel, 2nd REP, who was killed in afghanistan on June 7th, 2010.
I was under the impression the Famas was the only assault rifle used by French forces.
Also, the stock looks different than the G36's ive seen.

It does appear to be a G36. Google "Custom G36 stock" and you'll see the different types of custom stocks that can be attached to the weapon.

Weird. All the French troops I saw in Afghanistan had the FAMAS F1.

Maybe he was special and was able to get a G36 and customize it since it's got desert camo and a different stock. He is a sergeant rank

Wiki said that 2nd REP is not the part of the Speicial Forces, although they actually works like SP in French Army.

I think French SP is a lot like SPs in the U.S Army. They get to choose their own weapon, stock, and even new types of weapon for whole goddamn unit, which was Mk.16/17 for USSOCOM(although Mk.16 was screwed up). Since G36 is well-proven weapon that doesn' have any major problems in terms of accuracy and reliability, there are no reason why they shouldn't choose one like it.

What's an SP?

There are photos of French special operations units in the Ivory Coast armed with M4 carbines and SIG SG-551s, so it wouldn't be unprecedented for French units to use foreign weapons. Though not strictly speaking military, French gendarmes sent to mentor Afghan police units have also been equipped with G36s.

The only stocks that search brings up are the standard G36 stock, the KV stock, the SL8 stock, and that new prototype retractable stock stock made for a German Future Warrior (or whatever it's called) program.

None of them look like the one above.

Special Forces.

That would be SF, not SP. What would the P stand for?
