Splitting the S&W Revolver Pages?
 

Now I suppose the time has come to fish or cut bait regarding the Smith & Wesson handgun pages.

Do we split them out? i.e. each model number with it's own page? S&W sure doesn't make it easy for us by having some really inconsistent naming nomenclatures......

I propose the following:

1) Keep the pages grouped if the later versions don't look ANY DIFFERENT visually than the previous ones. Like the alloy vs blued steel versions of the Smith & Wesson Model 38/49 . (of course NICKEL PLATED versions are grouped with the blued models because they are a minor subset). The hammerless would get their own page as a distinct model number.

2) Separate out the Stainless Steel versions, primarily because they DO look so different. So the Model 29 and the Model 629 get their own pages, etc.

Does anyone have any arguments to the contrary? Suggestions? Here and now is the time to speak or forever hold your peace ;)

You could do it by frame too (J, K, L, etc.). It'd be easier to cross reference for identification purposes that way too, for example if someone knows a gun is a K frame but can't figure out which one.

I think having a page for each frame is a bad idea. It will result in enormous pages of vastly different guns. That being said, adding a notation of the frame type to the Smith & Wesson page is a fantastic idea. One that I am tempted to run with...

The Model 629 should definitely be split from the 29 page. Not sure why it didn't it's own page to begin with. Model 586/686, 19/66 each have their own.

A category could be created for each frame size, so they can be grouped together that way. Having the frame size listed on the S&W page may help some.

I would agree with the splitting as long as there are proper links from the stainless version to the original.

Another one that needs some attention is the Model 637 which appears on two different pages. (Smith & Wesson Model 637 & Smith & Wesson Model 37 Airweight / 637 Airweight)

Did we come to a conclusion on this?

Noyes. I think the way it's been done with the frame size being listed on the manufacturer page is the best way to go. But other than that I think the original idea is the way to go.
