Guess the 1911

I just purchased a "higher" end 1911. I'd like to see what your guesses are. You only get one guess. Just the maker, not the model.

k9870 08-05-2011 02:16 AM

well how high end, like enhanced 1911s higher end or like wilson/brown/baer/etc high end?

predator20 08-05-2011 02:27 AM

wilson/brown/baer/etc high end.

There's no way I'm putting down 4k for a 1911.

k9870 08-05-2011 02:29 AM

Wilson CQB? first guess. might as well put the best seller.

Nope. Let's see what other guess.

By "enchanced" i meant like a springer trp or a smith pro series, not a lidenberg or yost.

No it's not an Heirloom Precision etc. It's in the Wilson, Brown, Baer, Nighthawk range.

Y'all have already guessed Wilson and Nighthawk.

While I like the look of the DW's, that's not it either.

Aren't those way high end? I never cared for the looks of them.

Think plain. Well sorta.

Spades of Columbia 08-05-2011 04:24 PM

I only say this because you said 10 characters and because i happen to like their design but could it be Safari Arms?

I guess Rock Island is 10 characters as well but i dont count that as higher end.

No, no. Whenever you type just "nope" there's a pop up that says you must have 10 characters. So I threw that in there.

I'll let you re-guess. It's neither of them two though.

Spartan198 08-05-2011 05:02 PM

I'm thinking Kimber.

Nope. Though I do like the looks of their Raptor II.

The Wierd It 08-05-2011 05:06 PM

I take it SFA is too high-end?

k9870 08-05-2011 05:08 PM

Baer?

Maybe a hint of a few features, what size (5, 4inch, etc.)

You had already used up your guess. But that's what it is.

Here's a pic. Now guess the model.

Yes now that the maker is known. Guess the model.

The Wierd It 08-05-2011 05:33 PM

SFA = Springfield

Also, is it This one?

No, the front slide serrations were deleted. They are usually standard like on most Baer's 5" models.

The Wierd It 08-05-2011 07:11 PM

That's what threw me; every other pistol on the site had either adjustable sights, front serrations or both, or was just generally the wrong style entirely.

I should have mentioned that. I forgot about that particular model not having them. Feel free to take another guess.

Is it a Thunder Ranch? I've heard you can have them ordered sans front cocking serrations.

The Wierd It 08-05-2011 09:02 PM

Well, the closest I can find is This, but that's still with the front serrations as standard.

Close but no, it's the Ultimate Tactical Carry. It's basically a Thunder Ranch without the TRS markings and sells for a $100 less. I like the solid trigger and lack of ambi safety. I think the FCS can be omitted on all their guns. It's supposed to be delivered Mon. but the gun shop that's doing the transfer is closed Mon and Tues. So I get to wait till Weds. :(

Sorry didn't even see your post. (posted at the same time) As I said above that's what it is.

Picked up the Les Baer UTC a little while ago. I'm really really impressed with it! I was worried about the tightness people talk about. It's only when it's in full lock up it's really tight. It feels like your pulling the slide back with hammer up even though it's cocked back. It rides extremely smooth on the rails. It's supposed to be a 4lb trigger, it feels closer to 3.5lb. My S.A. Loaded breaks at just under 4lbs and this one feels lighter. (I gave my trigger pull scale to Pete @ theARMORYchannel, so I got to get another one) The safety is a bit stiff, I figure it will loosen with use. I'm not to sure about the slim grips. I'm going to shoot it first before I see about changing them out though.

k9870 08-11-2011 02:08 AM

Shot thin grips on a trs, liked them, but honestly i liked slim and full and had no real preference. Either would make me happy.

Spades of Columbia 08-11-2011 02:25 AM

i put ultra thin grips on my Kimber and i love the way it feels...probably not the most pratical for heavey duty shooting but for normal day at the range kind of stuff it rocks.

The grips are the same as the TRS, just don't have the logo.

I'm just not used to them. They are basically almost smooth. If they were a little coarser, I'd probably like them a little better. Even though the 30 lpi gives a good hold. I'm worried when my start sweating.

I'm going to really try to take it out this weekend.

That's how i'd prefer it, never liked outside logos. The checkering on the front ad back strap is good enough to get a great grip, the trs was the best 1911 i've shot. The trigger was about 4 pounds, just so smooth it feels lighter, but easy to control.

I think that's reason Baer introduced the UTC, not everybody cares to have TRS on their guns. The trigger on mine may actually be 4lbs, just a little bit cleaner or smoother than my Loaded.

What I like most about the UTC and TRS vs some of the other Baer's. They have the solid trigger vs the common 3-hole and no ambi safety.
