The bit about the motion tracker reminds me of Doom 3, where you had to choose between holding a flashlight or a weapon. I think most people were annoyed by that. But since you don't get a weapon in this film, I guess it's okay.

Excalibur 05-19-2014 02:50 AM

Still holding my opinion until I actually play it.

S&Wshooter 05-19-2014 06:56 PM

Bought Jagged Alliance 2 the other day because it was like $2.50. So far, pretty fun

Excalibur 05-19-2014 09:41 PM

I've been replaying Fallout New Vegas. Still a fun game with mods.

Nope, I'm about to get super busy

The game is fun, but slow. I'm 100% certain that if I didn't cheat a little, I'd get ruined fast because I'm not used to turn-based. I'm on like Day 7 and all 12 of my mercs are armed with at least an MP5k; I can't wait until I can buy decent gear and start standardizing stuff like rifles & ammo

Just have a bunch of guys running around with FALs and Dragunovs, wrecking everyone's shit

EDIT: I have 3 6-man squads running around, and one squad is 4/6 Ruger Mini-14 equipped. Gonna take down this dictator, redneck-style

Excalibur 05-23-2014 03:09 PM

I am going to see the new Xmen movie tomorrow. It looks awesome.

funkychinaman 05-24-2014 12:27 AM

Now that Amazon Prime has HBO shows, I've been rewatching Rome. I forgot how great this show was.

funkychinaman 05-26-2014 04:06 PM

Liam Neeson has earned the right of first refusal on these sort of roles, hasn't he?

Swordfish941 05-26-2014 09:26 PM

I'm possibly the only person who's excited for this game:

I can't seem to recall any other time when a reboot/reimagining of a franchise was done by the original creators. What's the point then if you're not bringing in someone fresh?

Excalibur 05-30-2014 08:42 PM

Well I hope they just make a movie starring the cast of the TV series or in the same canon

Ugh, it was the trailer to the new Equalizer film starring Denzel Washington. From just the trailer, it looks like they could've just as easily turned this film into Taken 3. Anyway, this link ought to work.

Maybe they just want to throw the old stuff out and start with a fresh slate?

If you really wanted a fresh take, you bring in new blood, like JJ Abrams with Star Trek and now Star Wars. (I'm not saying it was necessarily for the better, but it's fresh.) There has to be some young talent in Hollywood willing to put their own spin on Stargate.

Spartan198 06-01-2014 02:44 AM

Saw A Million Ways to Die in the West today. I think the trailers gave away too many of the funniest scenes, but it was okay.

Excalibur 06-02-2014 03:01 PM

I think they tried a "young" spin with Stargate with Universe and that show didn't turn out well...it's bad when a parody of that show actually happened BEFORE the show.

funkychinaman 06-06-2014 07:39 AM

There's a good chance this will be an incoherent mess. The miniseries adaptation of The Stand was based on the original, shorter version of the novel, ran for six hours, and still cut out a lot of stuff. Now they're proposing to cut that in half?

No, no, no, no, and NO!!!

The Stand is one of my favorite books and I won't stand for it being butchered on the big screen.

Swordfish941 06-09-2014 05:09 PM

Wow, I was right. Blended is a fucking hunk of shit yet it's doing well at the box office.

I'm not sure how they plan on bringing characters back to life here.

Night Of The Living Dead (1990) had the updated screenplay written by Romero I believe & was directed by Tom Savini...does that count? Either I love that version it kicks ass, still bummed the Dawn Of The Dead remake wasn't its sequel.

Recently bought Lone Survivor & Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Why do I feel like I'm the only person in the entire world who actually likes that movie?

Apparently you weren't alone if they're filming back to back sequels.

Well, budget reasons don't really count. There are plenty of examples of filmmakers remaking short films or extremely low budget films they made in the past. Michael Mann redid LA Takedown as Heat, and PT Anderson expanded his short The Dirk Diggler Story into Boogie Nights.

This should be interesting. Good cast, good directing, good production values.

You mean aside from all the people who tried to top themselves because reality isn't as "perfect" as Pandora?

This actually looks pretty kickass. I was going to complain about Shia LaBeouf being in it, but looks like he's not going to be playing an unbearable, annoying pansy.

It does not matter who he is portraying, it is impossible for him not to come a cross as a weak little punk

I'm now considering buying this game when it comes out, just to see Kevin Spacey in it:

It's basically Kevin Spacey reprising his role from House of Cards

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is kinda fun. Got it for $7.77 the other day

EDIT: Just finished it. Future Soldier is pretty much what newer CoD's should have been

Swordfish941 06-22-2014 06:17 PM

I fucking hate Harvey Kornine. First he brought us Trash Humpers, then he brought us this:

Are there any good WWII flight games on PS3?

I liked IL-2 Sturmovik and Birds of Steel on Xbox 360. I think they were both on PS3 as well.

I plowed through Batman: The Brave and the Bold finally. When it first came out, I thought it looked silly, and it looked like DC/Cartoon Network was shamelessly trying to go after younger viewers, but having watched it, it's really well done. Batman as we know him today may be all dark and brooding, but Silver Age Batman should at least be acknowledged. The writers really dug deep into the DC vault for some characters, and took full advantage of their access to Hanna-Barbera's vault as well.

commando552 06-24-2014 11:13 AM

Just watching the first episode of "The Last Ship", and for something that is filmed on board a real USN Destroyer so obviously has a fair amount of military backing, I would have expected a bit more military authenticity. I'm only about 15 minutes in, and already we have had a Russian helicopter force, which consists of a load of MH-53 and Twin Squirrel helicopters, with the guys in the Squirrels firing M60s. Its like something from the 80s where they just didn't give a shit. Hell, the MH-53s are even purely CG, there is absolutely no reason they couldn't have made them something Russian. To make matter worse, the MH-53s are depicted as gunships, with machine guns and rocket pods under the sponsons (dangling low enough that they would be scraping the ground if the helicopter tried to land by the way). Why the didn't just make them Hinds, the most stereotypically Russian helicopter ever which as a plus is actually a gunship, I will never know.

And the target these magical, Russian, gunship MH-53s are attacking? An Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, which already knows they are hostile, and yet lets them get within strafing range, and does absolutely jack-shit about them until they have made a couple of passes with rockets and machine guns. Then when it finally does something, it launcher some chaff rockets, which miraculously seem to decoy a couple of unguided rockets. When they do engage them they only use guns, including the Phalanx CIWS which had apparently up to this point just ignoring the incoming rockets, and was biding it's time waiting for the helicopter to seemingly just wander in front of it.

Spartan198 06-24-2014 01:23 PM

My main issue is the whole concept, and this extends to the book as well. The last functioning element of the US Navy is a single warship? What, did Russia and America nuke the rest of each other's navies as well? I can't conceivably believe that there wouldn't be more ships, especially subs, from both sides out there.

And I watched the episode twice, but heard no mention of what exactly that nuclear ICBM that the Nathan James detected was aimed at. Did anyone catch that?
