Ditto. I'm a nerd, but not THAT much of a nerd. :D I can remember many of the major action sequences from the game, but not in such specific detail. Last time I played HL2 to completion was in 2006 (I think).

I do remember HL1's story much better because I played HL: Source about one year ago, during one of my nostalgia trips (and I played through my original copy of HL1 probably about 6-8 times from 1999 to 2004, just before HL2 came out).

BeardedHoplite 06-30-2011 06:42 PM

I've been replaying Hitman: Blood Money for PS2.
It is still the best Hitman game, although the upscaling on my modern TV makes the Playstation version horribly jaggy

That's exactly how I feel about all of Valve's games, especially Portal.

Team Fortress 2 is still amazing.

My brother rented Brink from the Redbox but didn't like it ("It's too hard" he whined), so I ended up playing it. I really like it, despite the fact that you constantly run dry right when you desperately need ammo

Excalibur 07-01-2011 11:10 AM

Brink can be really annoying to play by yourself because everyone respawns, even the enemies. You kill them all and they come back in 5 seconds. The area is never clear of enemies. This is especially hard when trying to bring something back to your side of the map

You can rent games from Redbox now? I'll have to check that out.

I think I might buy Marvel vs Capcom 3. I heard it's good.

I heard it was disappointing. Fewer characters than MvC2.

k9870 07-03-2011 01:35 PM

I think the problem is the spawning system; everyone respawns in waves and there's only one spawn point per side in a given map, so gameplay comes to down to

1. Everyone runs into a room with an objective
2. Most of them die
3. Everyone respawns at the same time
4. Everyone runs back to the room with the objective

It never helps that the AI is generally too busy capturing the virtually useless "command posts" to help you with the objectives that actually matter.

There also isn't much of a story. It gives you an interesting Waterworld like back story but it doesnt go into depths of the details. It's just a set piece to play in.

I just bought Layer Cake and a two disc special edition of Blade Runner at Fry's Electronics.

Sweet. I used to watch Layer Cake all the time on my PSP when I was stuck in waiting rooms, sitting in the deer stand before sun-up, etc. It never got old

Gunmaster45 07-06-2011 09:47 AM

I just recently bought a PS3 to quell my desire to play all things Metal Gear Solid (because I'm a huge fan of the series).

I've now played and beaten MGS4 around 20 times, unlocked just about everything the game has to offer, and sadly am starting to get bored with it.

What pissed me off initially buying the PS3 is that the new ones aren't backwards compatable with PS1/PS2 games like the old ones were. Apparantly it costs too much money for Sony, so they got rid of the backwards compatability, and that's why they're only $299 now instead of $600-$500. Since I own MGS1 through 3, and my ancient 1st gen PS2 is dead, I can't play these games. But at least now I have a bluray player for when DVDs die out in a couple of years.

I might be able to get the "newer" gen PS2 for a decent cheap price from a friend. Apparantly they are releasing MGS2, MGS3, and MGS Portable Ops all converted to HD console playing for the PS3, but honestly I don't want to spend so much money to buy games I already have, except now have saved data on my fossilized memory cards be completely useless.

Oh, and they're also releasing a new MGS game that fills in the gap of what happened to Raiden between MGS2 and MGS4, and it's supposed to be a mix of lots of limb-hacking fun with ninja swords, and traditional stealth gameplay. But this one will be for both Xbox 360 and PS3. Because the game makers really got to pour salt in my wounds.

I think the new ones still play PS1 games (they run an emulator) but the main problem is that to run PS2 games the old PS3s actually had to have an entire PS2 CPU and GPU inside them as well as their own (much like a Sega Genesis has an entire Master System inside it). Obviously, effectively having most of a second console inside them wasn't helping them competition-wise, plus Sony was trying to gear down manufacturing of PS2 components a little.

The new one is called Rising, and yeah, it's about Raiden and isn't being directed by Kojima. Looks interesting, certainly.

Kojima said something along the lines of "I won't be directing it but the story and concept are close to what I would have done." So that gives me a little less to worry about.

Seeing as Raiden was so annoying and whiney in MGS2, I'm assuming he'll have grown testicles throughout Rising before the story of MGS4.

Given he tried to torch the franchise and run with MGS4...

Spartan198 07-06-2011 08:05 PM

Kojima has been trying to end it since MGS on PS1, but umpteen sequels later, it's still going.

I hate Raiden. I don't give a damn how awesome they try to make him look, he'll always be a whiny little bitch in my eyes.

Swordfish941 07-09-2011 03:37 AM

I just saw Horrible Bosses. Fuckin' hilarious. I then bought The Last King of Scotland, Taken, and RocknRolla from Border's Book Store.

Kellan Lutz: Haven't seen his work, so I can't judge.

HE ALREADY RUINED DUKE!! HE IS NOT RUINING HE-MAN!!!!!

funkychinaman 07-10-2011 06:36 AM

Has it comes to this? Is Hollywood truly scraping the bottom of the creativity barrel here? A He-Man movie?!

Evil Tim 07-11-2011 08:31 AM

Now, if you want a game with a totally juvenile sense of humour and old-school design sensibilities, forget the Duke and his terrible game and get Shadows of the Damned. But don't if you're likely to be offended by trekking through hell as the most Mexican man ever guided by a camp English talking skull. Who turns into a skeleton gun that fires teeth called the boner.

Mandolin1 07-11-2011 11:48 PM

I screencaped Darla's SIGs in for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and now i have a problem. The scene takes palce in near-total darkness, making it imposible to see where the black bars on the side end and where the action begins. I tride to use me old cheat of turnign the black bars white in Paint, but this time it left the entire picture white. Any ideas?

Just trim a little by little off each side, until the pic size match the rest.

Speaking of Duke, I DLed the DNF demo on XBLA, and wow, I don't even know if I'd buy it from the $10 bin now. It's like it was developed in a vacuum. They ignored almost every in-game development in FPSs in the past decade. (Aside from only allowing two weapons.) I know they took a dig at Halo, but it's clear they never bothered to actually play it.

What I do it grab another screencap and copy-paste it on top aligning with anything that gives me a clue where the frame is, crop around that, then delete the copied layer.

I know somebody who claims its a great game but he grew up on duke, everybody else says it sucks.

k9870 07-13-2011 08:04 PM

Downloading duke demo so i can give a good opinion on it.

k9870 07-13-2011 08:55 PM

Wow it sucked, sad thing though...it has destructible enviroments, and call of duty still has nothing....

Evil Tim 07-13-2011 09:21 PM

Eh, nothing compared to Crysis or Red Faction Guerrila.

k9870 07-13-2011 09:28 PM

Yeah red faction is way better just saying COD needs to improve and innovate instead of continuously using the same formula.

S&Wshooter 07-13-2011 11:17 PM

Bought Appaloosa at Sam's for $5

Click the first part link and there's a link at the bottom of the page to the next part each time. Marvel in wonder at how in the hell anyone thought Kojima should have made anything ever again after this.

Seriously, this game has a puzzle involving Snake having a live owl in his backpack. It's no wonder his CODEC-face looks bewildered and frightened. Oh yeah, and

And I'm going to go one further: this should be the next zombies level in Black Ops, starring Eckert brothers and Roger and Peter from DotD. (And before you mention that Swayze is dead, I'd like to point out that JFK, Nixon and McNamara were dead too.)

Evil Tim 07-15-2011 11:46 PM

I think the next one the players should be playing as Bobby Kotick and the guys from Treyarch holding off zombie lawyers who attack with razor-sharp legal papers and copies of Battlefield 3.

It would be very realistic.

Dude, they already made a He-man in '87 with Dolph Lundgren. Everyone thought it was terrible. Another one that is properly made couldn't hurt, right?
