Hog Gun
I'm thinking of saving up my money to build (To me) what could be the perfect hog gun.
I'm kind of torn between building a 300 Blackout upper (I already have a DPMS AR) and the CMMG Mutant. I've heard good things about the Mutant, but have recently heard that CMMG doesn't have a good rep when it comes to quality control. On the other hand, 300 Blk is pretty expensive, and at the moment I don't have the tools or knowledge to make the brass. So, thoughts? |
I hear the 6.5 is going strong, but the 6.8 is making a comeback sorta for a hog gun.

Did someone say "FAL"?

6.8 SPC would be more appropiate for hogs between the two 6mm AR- calibers.
.300 BLK is pretty awesome; however, I wouldn't incur the extra cost of it unless I was planning on suppressing it. But, that being said, I haven't head much on the Mutant, but everything I have heard was kinda "meh" For the record, my hog gun is a Marlin 336C in .35 Remington. |
What about the Galil in 7.62x39?
|
Plus, I know the 30-30 Winchester will do the job just fine.

And note that most of the IDF guys, including their commandoes are going towards an AR- platform rifle. Also, I'm not a big fan of the 7.62x39 cartridge. And finding soft points might be problematic as well. If you want to go semi auto for your bacon bullet thrower, I'd go with your original suggestion of the .300 BLK AR. Or, you know, the old .30-30 kills hogs just as dead. |
