Some of the guns in Family guy, Simpsons, American Dad, and other american cartoons barely do much work on guns. Most are just drawings of guns. Lacking real detail.

Yeah, but this isn't always true. "Family Guy" clearly has guns that are supposed to be MP5s, Micro Uzis, and XM8s, for instance. The fact that in one episode Stewie asks to see a guy's "M9 double-action pistol" indicates that the show's creators are probably at least somewhat knowledgeable of guns.

And "South Park" has very realistic drawings of M16A1s, G36s, SPAS-12s, AK-47s, S&W autos, etc. which appear in many episodes.

Yes, I remember the episode when Stewie refered to the officer's gun as an M9, but it clearly was in the shape of a 1911.

And in South Park, they draw a G36 bullpup.

From the way they drew the frame on the gun when it was holstered, it looked like a 92 Inox, but sadly, Seth MacFarlane let me down.

The Family guy crew may try and know a thing or two about guns, but the South Park guys do know a thing or two about guns. Trey Parker is a gun owner himself if memory serves.

Might be. "South Park" does tend to mock gun ownership pretty frequently, but Tre and Matt are Libertarians, so it wouldn't surprise me.

South Park

I'm a little sketchy on how much they know about guns. That G36 Bullpup was refered to on the show as a Stratford 12mm. Also, they use this big bazooka to kill a goat in one episode and they refer to it as a 40-something Gauge, which would actually be very small.

Then again, the south park movie had some pretty realistic looking guns. It's on my list to screencap.

That was first season, in 1997. Nowadays they have their act together.

Wait, which episode did they call the G36 a Stratford 12mm?

episode

First season when Mr. Garison buys a gun to kill Kathie Lee Gifford. I have season one on DVD.

Exactly, that was first season. The original gun wasn't real, so they just called it a Stratford 12mm. The Episode where they blow up the goat was also early, and even I didn't understand gauges a while back. Making up fake stuff is better than blatant innacuracy, like calling a 1911 an M9.
