IMFDB Youtube account?

Theres a Channel on youtube with the username IMFDB. Is this an actual IMFDB page or is it just some guy who choose to be named "IMFDB" and favorite gun movies.

Excalibur 05-14-2010 03:40 AM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_3FFThpkyg

You mean this?

It seems to imply that the site is a star but uses words like "Violent movies" and "is showing the most showing of guns in the theater since Lincoln's assassination."

Ummm...I don't know if the site should be flattered or insulted.

There are other videos that does link IMFDB. But I don't see an actual channel with IMFDB

AdAstra2009 05-14-2010 03:46 AM

I mean this= http://www.youtube.com/imfdb

The reason I bring this up is we don't want people posing as IMFDB who are not IMFDB.

Excalibur 05-14-2010 03:56 AM

Well since it is void of real vids or any detailed information or even a link to IMFDB, I have no idea what it is

bunni 05-14-2010 06:35 PM

Not official, just some dude.

Zulu Two Six 05-15-2010 10:10 PM

It's a bad thing when some kid poses as a representative of all of us. He doesn't speak for the site. And I as a veteran user/mod don't think very highly of people who hijack our name. If he acts like a total dick on the web, people will think he's affiliated with THIS site.

Excalibur 05-16-2010 02:42 AM

I think we SHOULD make our own Youtube profile to set the record straight

Rockwolf66 05-16-2010 04:46 AM

Well if the IMFDB has any copyrights or trademarks then we could send the little bastard a cese and desist notice.

I mean since he is spouting garbage and pretending to be us then lets send out some form of legal notice that such impersonations are not kosher.

Spartan198 05-16-2010 08:02 AM

Ever since Google bought YouTube, they've been totally anal about copyright claims. If somebody made a complaint, they'd probably shut this imposter down with no questions asked.

Do it, then get someone responsible to start up the Youtube channel. That guy's going to be pissed though

Excalibur 05-16-2010 04:53 PM

Since Bunni controls the site, we should let him do it and have some of the admins have the password to change things and put things up on it.

AdAstra2009 10-13-2010 01:47 AM

..

Posers are at it again, Nothing real harmful but still....

If you can't find it edit>find>IMFDB

http://www.firearmyourself.com/firea...ct-review.html

http://crystalmind.com/newsdesk/deja-vu-part-4/

Maybe a notice should be posted that the only place that IMFDB operates is the actual IMFDB website....

AdAstra2009 01-17-2012 02:11 PM

2 years later and we still haven't squashed this.

http://www.youtube.com/user/IMFDB/feed?filter=2

Excalibur 01-17-2012 07:44 PM

Well Bunni really owns the site. If he hasn't taken action, we can't do anything about it.

Excalibur 04-06-2012 07:40 PM

I've just bumped into this user on Youtube again. Apparently he's been busy making comments to a lot of vids. I know this is the age where comments come and go but anything this guy writes down can potentially reflect badly to the site

AdAstra2009 04-07-2012 12:37 AM

Which is why we need to do something about this.

Excalibur 04-07-2012 12:42 AM

I actually tried talking to the guy and he's really defensive about it. Here are the responses I got from him.

"
I don't see how my latest comments are related to ur website. I prefer actually giving people tips about equipment and techniques that actually work in harsh adrenalized environments while ur website mostly sticks to identifying guns without any life saving reputation. I no longer see a point to identifying guns in movies. I've moved on to a realistic and applied area of weapons manipulation as should you.

My intention is not to pose as your website official. I'd rather not have any irresponsible user take the name and tarnish ur websites impression on the gun community. U should consider urself lucky an irrational kid doesn't have this account name.

I'll clearly state to them that I don't have any affiliation with you what so ever as I've been doing for the last year. Trust me I've seen the replies. Only 1% off people that reply to me recognize that website. It's not like ur name has a trademark of gets me thumbs up on my comments.

"

Yeah, this guy's a bit annoying.

AdAstra2009 04-07-2012 01:23 AM

Yeah, he sounds like a moron...

Well at the very least like you said earlier we should probably look into making a placeholder channel.

Excalibur 04-07-2012 04:00 AM

But it's kinda hard with this guy using it

Rockwolf66 04-07-2012 04:09 AM

So call it "IMFDBOfficial" or something similar.

There are ways around some jackhole squatting on a domain name.

zackmann08 04-08-2012 12:21 AM

The other thing you can do is lodge a complaint with youtube. It probably won't do anything but its at least worth a try.

Spartan198 04-08-2012 11:02 PM

What I don't really get is that if he really isn't trying to masquerade as us, why in the world did he choose the name "IMFDB"? There aren't any other websites or organizations that use that acronym that I'm aware of.

Excalibur 04-09-2012 02:45 AM

I know, but it's just weird. He says just using the name of our site is like me using the name Excalibur.

Obviously Excalibur is open domain. No one has a claim on the actual name.

Excalibur 08-05-2012 03:21 PM

So again, I inquire with this youtube channel that claims to be us and this was his response.

"Improve, Adapt, Overcome. Accept things what they are, and move on."

funkychinaman 08-05-2012 04:42 PM

So has anyone taken it up with Youtube yet?

And who is this guy? Disgruntled user?

What the hell does that even mean?

I just reported him. Anyone else who wants to should. The more people who complain the more likely something will happen.

Excalibur 08-06-2012 02:55 AM

Had dropped my own complaint as well

funkychinaman 08-06-2012 03:48 AM

I think the only complaint that matters is Bunni's. As the legal face of IMFDB, he's the only one with a dog in this fight.

Excalibur 08-06-2012 04:12 AM

Don't think he actually cares.

Bottom line, it isn't like the site has plans for a Youtube channel. Unless someone wants to take the time and effort to make vids about the site. Most likely any "copyright" videos we post on youtube will be taken off. I'd suggest us making a BlipTV account if we plan to make vids about the site using copyright images
