IMFDB Gun identification thread

Didn't see a general thread for identifying unknown guns so I'm making one here.

This handgun appears in the seconds season of the Third Watch and I'm having trouble identifying it.

Looks like a non gun.

AdAstra2009 02-05-2018 12:49 AM

I believe you are correct.

AdAstra2009 02-05-2018 12:56 AM

How about this one:

I was thinking Intratec MP9 but something about the shape doesn't look right.

Mandolin 02-06-2018 02:36 AM

Oh cool, you're doing Third Watch. I need to finish that series.

Mandolin 02-08-2018 10:54 PM

Any idea what this kludge is supposed to be? Its the Envoy blaster/gun/thing from Altered Carbon. Some sort of vaguely AR-15 based thing with what I think is a flip-up magnifier as a sight

I don't believe it is anything to do with an AR-15, pretty sure it is built from a Tippman Cronus paintball marker.

Mandolin 02-10-2018 03:13 AM

Good call on the Tipman, got more screenshots and the grip and receiver seem to match. A decal seems to suggest the in-universe manufacturer as "???NKOA ARMS"

I'm pretty sure the first gun is a Px4, is the second a USP?

I agree on the PX4, but I think the HK pistol is a Mk23 based on the rear sights and frame safety.

Yup definitely a Mk 23 and a PX4, the USP doesn't have as pronounced of a vertical dip/curve in the trigger guard as the Mk 23 does.

Mandolin 02-10-2018 05:29 PM

And some more:

This looks a bit like a Chiappa Rhino, but I'm pretty sure its just a prop. Referred to as a "modified second-series Nemex". The "cylinder" is actually a 'charge pack"

Found a promo pic that shows the Envoy Blaster's markings. "NKO ARMS"

This seems to be a custom build for the show

I see several movie props :the S&W 610 dressed up from Blade Trinity, "Bone Jack" rifle from that film as well and the I, Robot Taurus model 85.

Yup. Didn't really need them identified, just sharing

Mandolin 02-17-2018 03:32 PM

Is this actually a Vektor CP1? I thought it was, but the mag doesn't stick down enough and I might be wrong. Is it a SiG P230/232?

Also, I'm starting to think the Sun Jet and Mk.23 with dot sight are separate weapons.

Jcordell 02-26-2018 06:01 AM

I often wonder why handguns are shown to be so massive and awkwardly bulky in the "Future". A quick review of handgun design shows that they have become more compact and sleek as the years have gone by. Oh well just an observation.

In the future guns will be better. Therefore they will be bigger. Hence the Deagle Arms Deagle Pistol showing up completely unaltered in future works, as it is the most future gun.

We will also have forearms like Popeye.

Well yeah, that was clearly shown in the documentary Final Fantasy VII.

Need help with identifying this pistol. Any assistance would be great!

funkychinaman 04-19-2018 01:52 AM

Looks like a SIG-Sauer P226.

That was my first impression but I just wasn't sure (something about it just seemed different from the P226's the agents in my office carry, for whatever reason). Thanks for the help!

commando552 04-19-2018 10:06 PM

I'm not convinced it is really a P226. Firstly, the slide doesn't look like it extends far enough past the end of the frame. Secondly this gun has a railed slide but an internal extractor which I think is a pretty rare combination, they are pretty much a German made special edition. Here is one, but that image highlights to me how short the slid on the mystery gun looks.

Callaway829 04-20-2018 12:47 AM

I think the railed slide is what bothered me the most about the pistol in the screen cap. I haven't been able to locate anything that resembles it in my searches. That's why I went with "appears to be" in the show's article until I figure out what it actually is.

Thanks for the help.

Excalibur 04-21-2018 03:34 AM

Perhaps it's a smaller SIG like the 229 or the 225

You can see the double stack bulge in the first cap, so it's definitely not a P225.

commando552 04-21-2018 08:49 AM

My initial guess would have been a P228R (shorter slide, internal extractor) but the trigger guard looks the wrong shape to me.

Excalibur 04-21-2018 02:44 PM

Maybe it's a REX

Callaway829 04-23-2018 06:09 PM

Just doing more searches and making comparisons, it looks more like a P228 than the 226, but the trigger guard almost looks like an H&K USP...

I want the article to be as accurate as possible and unless I get the props department to clarify the weapons for me, I'm at a loss on this particular gun. I am considering changing it in the article from the 226 to the 228...

I'd have to say the same, you mention the trigger guard but don't 228Rs have the 'hooked' guard akin to the 226s? That being said looks like the grip is awful large though, more full-size than compact. Maybe just an extended base mag but still.. If that's the case then maybe what we have here is a custom PPK/S-ish build with the large frame and short slide, akin to the 220 'Carry'.

Callaway829 06-18-2018 07:07 PM

Got another one. I think it's a Glock 26 with an extended mag but would like confirmation (and correction if necessary).

(This show is shot is such dim lighting sometimes it's hard to get good detail on the weapons they use. Then I find a cap where the attention to detail by the prop on minor things department it's amazing...)

StanTheMan 06-19-2018 01:15 AM

Yeah, G26, not even sure it has an extended mag though. Awful short slide aside the fact it has 3rd Gen finger grooves in the grip but no rail is a pretty good giveaway.

It looks like is has one of those finger rest replacement base plates, but not the ones that increase the capacity. Like this one.

Yeah, when I lightened up the screencap of the gun on the table I got a better look at it. It looks very much like a Pearce extension grip.

Thanks to both of you for the help!

Need help with identification again.

Another view, more of the rifle stock:

And anything in this picture other than the guy second from the right, I've already recognized the Trench Gun he's holding:

Anther angle to possibly help (again, I have the guy in the foreground and also the plaid shirt next to him with the Ithaca 37 Stakeout:

Thanks for the assistance!!

(And I had been doing so well, too...)

Winchester 1892 Mare's Leg.

S&Wshooter 07-10-2018 02:36 AM

Or a Chiappa clone of the Winchester

Callaway829 07-10-2018 02:49 PM

The longer I study the screen cap, the more I think it's the Chiappa. It has a hexagonal barrel and the matches the features of the Chiappa more closely than the Winchester (barrel length, fore stock, loading port...).

Thanks to both of you, I needed the initial ID to start my search.

Now... on to the rest of them...

Spartan198 05-05-2022 08:00 PM

What is this?

The only thing I recognize is the magazine in the first image, which looks SMLE-ish to me.

It's from an early 2000s TV show called Relic Hunter.

Greg-Z 05-06-2022 05:08 PM

Looks like someone was inspired by the Day of the Jackal rifle.

I think that you are right, the base gun is Lee-Enfield, maybe a Lee-Speed Sporter, judging by the bolt handle. The buttstock is in Sten Mk II - Mk III style but not exactly the same, possibly a makeshift.
