Watchmen guns

I was browsing the Watchmen gun articles and I saw the Comedian's pistols. I believe the article said that the were just 1911s but to me those looked like Springfield Operators. With longer barrels of course. The trigger, hammer, railing, and the flaring of the slide guard all looks very similar to a Springfield MC Operator than any other 1911 I've seen.

Is it an Operator or just a really souped up 1911?

I believe they are actually Para-Ordnance Nite-Tacs in stainless steel with custom six inch slides, completely modified to not look like PAs (It has .45ACP in big letters on the slide, which typical models don't have).

The guns clearly have double stack frames and a tactical rail like a Nite-Tac.

The funny thing is, these guns are completely anachronistic for 1985 but apparently Doctor Manhatten's super powers influenced history enough to bring their design back farther (even though his powers have nothing to do with guns).

Look at League of Extraodrinary Gentleman. Half the guns in that movie are out of place in time.

Umm.... the guns clearly don't have double stack frames, there's no flaring at the grips. They're D&L Sports Professional Model Longslides.

Nice catch! I thought the guns were double stack because of the fat well but I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me. You hit the nail right on the head. That gun is exact. I doubt they were made in 1970 though, when Nixon suposedly gave the guns to him for his Vietnam service.

what effect do longslides have on guns?

Gunmaster45 03-08-2009 09:09 PM

Better accuraccy, since it allows a longer barrel. Plus, some people (including me) think they look cool.

The barrel length is sort of a common misconception as far as accuracy goes. The sight radius is just as, if not more important to accuracy.

Also I'd like a Hardballer Longslide myself.

No Picatinny rails at that time period.
