Nooby Glock question

What is that thing protruding from the frame above the trigger and below the 40 etched on the slide?

Takedown lever.

Well for me, when I picked up a Glock for the first time, I didn't quite know what it was until I press down on it and disassembled the gun.

When I first picked up a glock I wondered "how do people actually like these things?

ManiacallyChallenged 03-06-2010 07:56 PM

:C
You can't mean that.

s\Strange grip angle, unconfortable finger grooves. Yes, I really hate those finger grooves. Doesn't point naturally. Strange trigger. Models above 9mm caliber too light for the round they shoot. Looks ugly. Ill stick with SIG.

It's easy to understand why Glocks are popular. It's way harder to understand how anyone could think they're the best out there.

k9870 03-08-2010 08:27 PM

There simple and dont cost much, which makes them popular for new shooters. The price point makes them popular amongst the procurement people at police departments dealing with budget issues. I like .45 acp, and the solid feel of metal. A 23 once hunk of palstic is not the best platform.

ManiacallyChallenged 03-08-2010 09:03 PM

It's worth noting how many firearms fail because of price point, though they are otherwise effective and stuff.

I can't think of any examples.... crap.

the H&K P7

Yournamehere 03-09-2010 12:08 AM

It depends on what you mean by "fail". I think the H&K P7 is a good, neat pistol even if it flew over everyone's heads years ago. That being said, you can pretty much name almost every discontinued or uncommon H&K pistol or rifle a "failure" by those requirements even though some people still like and want HK91s and such.

Anyway, we answered the guys question, now let's try to stay on topic (or any half decent topic for that matter) rather than bash Glocks.

k9870 03-09-2010 03:04 AM

The p7 is cool. I like its size. Small and compact enough for carry and big enough for shooting well. There also known for reliability. The only HK gun id ever buy (hint, hate the company)

Excalibur 03-09-2010 05:16 AM

I've been thinking about getting the HK P30, but the lack of a safety turns me off.

Yournamehere 03-09-2010 07:06 AM

They have versions of the P30 which have safeties, which isn't surprising as they are pretty much the 9mm/.40 counterpart of the HK 45. As for the new HK pistol design, all that comes to mind is "if the P99 and the USP had a baby.....". They have the same cost issue as the other HK products but the ergonomics are supposed to be a step up from the USP. I read a review of the gun and the guy said the trigger was as good as a USP, which is not very good, and if you opt for the .45 you take a 2 round drop in capacity. I think the USP looks better but I'm sure the HK P30/45 would handle a bit better, so if I had to choose I'd have a hard time choosing. If my money is involved I'd get a USP because they've been out long enough for people to decide to sell them for decent prices used.

I'd like to get a P7M8 but I don't have a spare arm or leg for one. I'd also like to get a look at a P7M13 and see how the grip is, because if it's good, then I'll buy the variant that holds 5 more rounds. Cool little gun.

S&Wshooter 03-09-2010 09:19 PM

I'd buy a P7 in a second if I saw one that didn't cost so much. For what they're asking, I could pay the downpayment on that black market kidney that I'll at some point need

k9870 03-09-2010 09:39 PM

Why does lack of safety turn you off on a DA/SA? The only guns i want maual safeties on are SAO, and i want as few stupid safeties as possible (like mag disconnect can go to hell.)
