Web gear from the 80's and 90's

As I'm writing a couple bits of fiction i am wondering about what non-Millitary issue web gear was available in the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s? As some people were aware of the ti,e periods equipment can i get some help?

What's wrong with Military Issue? Do you only want stuff that's not used by a military?

I have plenty of data regarding US military issue equipment and I know where there has been some pretty good discussions on Russian equipment in use at the time period. What came from the civilian market...Ie. the combat vests seen in Predator. is not something I have much info on.

Sounds like a difficult request being that all web gear by nature is intended for the Military. Your better off asking on yahoo answers or something.

How different is web gear from decade to decade? Is it even worth mentioning?

Modern Webbing typically has PALS (Pouch Attachment Ladder System). Stuff from the 1980's/90's do not.

IN Predator, the Combat vests were foreign military!, so most tactical vests (other than the earliest SWAT stuff) was Military. Alot of the weird stuff, was actually Rhodesian or South African load bearing vests. There were NOT tons of commercial designers of tactical gear in the 1980s (relative to the large amount today).

well you learn something new everyday. I did remember that there were a couple vests Intended for SWAT in the late 1980s early 1990s but I didn't remember who made them...

It's interesting to learn these things as you look at US web gear from the time (I still have the H-harness that my old man used when he was working for the CDF.) compaired to the stuff my friends are using over in the sandbox.

Also most people here would have no idea what web equipment would be apropriate for what time period.

Uh, speak for yourself LOL ;) I know the time periods of all major usage of Web gear AND foreign, mostly because I have to speak up on sets if people are using the wrong gear. Remember, until the 1990s, there just wasn't a lot of private gear being pushed to anyone other than law enforcement. Unless you were a SWAT guy, you used military stuff.

If you have any questions as to what MILITARY web gear was used when, then by all means ASK. :)
