Folding Stocks?

Top? Bottom? Left? Right? Telescoping? Adjustable? Removable?

Which do you prefer and why?

Folding stocks are for storage and looking cool in action movies. My guns dont need to fit into tight storage or break down for parachuting out of planes. They need to get shot, and I like a sturdy stock with good cheek weld.

Retractable. For SMGs or ARs. Never liked folding stocks.
I was issued a G3A7 with fixed stock during service and some of my buddies had G3A4's with retractable stocks. I always envied them.

Fixed for shotguns no matter what type.

Telescoping. I need a different length when I have on body armor vs when I don't.

If i was in a military combat role i would want a adjustable stock, as long as its not the crappy m4 ones, id want like a vltor with the superior cheek weld. But im a civilian shooter and dont strap on a plate carrier.

In with the new, so I like the folding telescoptic stocks like on the SCAR, or ACR

And I've got no real interest in shooting black rifles on my own dime.

If we're talking about ARs, I'd rather have telescoping than fixed. Most fixed AR stocks (including the M16A2-style) are a bit too long for me. Also, if you shoot with anyone else who may be bigger/smaller, it's nice to be able to adjust the stock for multiple people.

Folding stocks (top, bottom, left, right) seem necessary unless you have storage issues, and many of them suck to actually shoot (especially AK under-folders). I guess the idea of combination folding/telescoping on the SCAR is pretty clever (as Excalibur suggested), but I'm a little wary of folding stocks on rifles that have polymer construction. Seems like the hinges might be fragile relative to a permanently fixed/telescoping stock.

Then what do you think about the retractable one on MP5s? They're metal but don't you think they can be fragile because they aren't held together by much. You can take the stock apart very easily.

I've seen demos of them shooting the ACR and the SCAR-L with the stocks folded to show their recoil isn't so severe.
