Top 5 shootouts

This is about the top 5 shootouts you like. And pretty much it means any scene with guns involving. You have to name a specific scene. You can't pick an entire movie. You can also pick scenes from shows too.

1. Heat - Where they battle it out on the streets.
2. Blackhawk down - Durant's crash site where the 2 Delta snipers did their last stand.
3. Hard Boiled - The one hospital shootout that was done in one take
4. The Unit - In season 2, the main Unit characters are in the middle east and link up with an army check point to take on an army of hostiles.
5. Ultimate Force - The episode called "Something to do with Justice" Where the SAS team pretty much plows through a building, taking down hostiles.

S&Wshooter 02-10-2010 09:19 PM

The battle at the end of "Saving Private Ryan"
The shootout at the end of "Man With a Gun"
Park shotout in "Death Wish 2"
The battle scenes in "The Wild Geese"
The parts of "Farwell To the King" in which the Bornean "savages" decimate Japanese soldiers

Swordfish941 02-11-2010 12:46 AM

1. The shootout between the PMC's and the Nigerians in "District 9"

2. The final battle in "Avatar"

3. The shootout between II Duce and the McManus brothers in "The Boondock Saints"

4. The Little Bohemia shootout in "Public Enemies"

5. The lobby shootout in "The Matrix"

Warning, this list is heavy with the Michael Bay and Michael Mann love.

1) Heat, the robbery-turned-gunfight. The gold standard by which all movie shootouts have been judged since 1995.

2) Bad Boys, hangar finale. It was a tight race between this and the sequel's gunfight at the intersection (just before the chase across the MacArthur Causeway). I give the edge to this scene just because, well, you really can't go wrong with it.

3) Public Enemies, Little Bohemia. Between the Thompsons and Winstead's Winchester 1901, this probably wins for being one sweet-sounding shootout.

4) Transformers, USAF personnel vs. Skorponok. There are so many scenes in both this and Revenge of the Fallen that should have made the list. But like the earlier dilemma with Bad Boys I and II, I give the desert fight with Skorponok the nod because everything just comes together in this one. The AC-130 gunship helps, too. :D

5) The Rock, Marines ambush the SEALs. One of the finer moments in the movie, and probably that exact moment you realize that they're for real. The verbal exchange between Ed Harris and Michael Biehn is great, too.

Honorable mentions: Miami Vice (2006), final gunfight at the harbor. Shooter, the battle at the cabin. Die Hard 2...pick one. Die Hard, Karl and Hans corner McClane.

The Tavern gunfight in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

David.

ManiacallyChallenged 02-11-2010 06:18 AM

Most of the good ones have been said...
I liked the car park shootout from A Better Tomorrow.

How about the whole movie of Mr and Mrs Smith!

Alcatrazz 02-11-2010 02:37 PM

Public Enemies... don't get me started on that one. The shootout at Little Bohemia was the only part of the film that didn't make me wish I was playing Pokemon on my gameboy...
MICHAEL MANN DON'T SHOOT A PERIOD PIECE ON HD VIDEO

Never seen it

k9870 02-12-2010 03:20 PM

Way of the gun was good in shootouts, but not that great of a movie.

S&Wshooter 02-12-2010 09:25 PM

Ya know what? Replace the final battle of "Saving Private Ryan" with The big shootout in "The Magnificent Seven" and my list will be perfect

k9870 02-12-2010 09:36 PM

Which magnificent 7? Only seen the new one.

S&Wshooter 02-12-2010 09:39 PM

The one with Bronson.

MT2008 02-13-2010 03:23 PM

I dunno if it's Top 5, but has anyone ever seen this shootout from the TV show "Millennium", Episode 3.04, "Closure":

http://www.chrisnu.com/millennium/s3...eenshot116.jpg

I remember seeing this episode was I was about 13 and thinking it was the best shootout I'd ever seen. Of course, I also hadn't seen "Heat" at the time, nor had I heard of the North Hollywood shootout, so I didn't recognize the influence. But I watched this episode again more recently when I did the page for "Millennium" and found that this shootout still holds up well for me, in spite of all the other (bigger-budget) action movies I've watched since. When you first see the two gunmen step off the bus with their riot gear on, I think it's pretty badass. Also, the sound design is excellent, so when they open fire with their XM177s, you definitely can feel the pounding of the automatic fire on your subwoofer.

(Although on a side note, it's kind of ridiculous that the BGs are walking around bare-armed and none of the cops try to shoot them in the arms. Especially since the cops in this episode, unlike the LAPD in North Hollywood, have rifles.)

Anyway, I would say this is one of my personal Top 5 shootouts, outside of movies that are part of the "canon" for gun enthusiasts.

ManiacallyChallenged 02-13-2010 09:22 PM

Those guys arms are too muscle-y to be shot, sorry.

Mauser 02-14-2010 03:17 AM

Here are some I like in no particular order.

The Shootist - John Wayne’s last shootout.
Scarface - I Love Pacino's energy during the scene.
The Way of the Gun - I thought the shootouts were pretty cool.
They Live -"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I’m all out of bubblegum", enough said!
The Wild Bunch - Probably the coolest cast of characters firing a countless number of rounds.
The Devils Rejects - The opening shootout (The only good part of the movie IMO)
The BooneDock Saints - I love when they shoot it out with Il Duce and Dafoe's line "And there was a firefight!”
Platoon - The final battle.

I’m surprised no one mentioned The Wild Bunch or Scarface.

S&Wshooter 02-14-2010 04:01 AM

You fell asleep during Scarface? You should be ashamed of yourself

S&Wshooter 02-14-2010 06:27 PM

I didn't really like it, which explains why all those douchebag rappers love it

Excalibur 02-14-2010 07:25 PM

I don't see why rappers like Scarface. Mostly because of the drugs and women in the story. I like the action

Didn't you just answer your own question in the space of two sentences? :D

Anyway, I think some rappers like the action in "Scarface", too:

Of pain, I'm like Scarface, sniffin' cocaine
Holdin' an M16
, see with the pen I'm extreme, now
Bulletholes left in my peepholes
I'm suited up in street clothes
Hand me a Nine and I'll defeat foes
-Nas, "N.Y. State of Mind"

S&Wshooter 02-14-2010 08:29 PM

My cat shoots better than thoe "gangstas" anyways :p

MT2008 02-14-2010 08:37 PM

I've never thought "Scarface" is that great an action movie, anyway. Actually, I think it's not that great a movie, period, but that's just me. The shootout at the end is iconic for good reasons, but as a pure action sequence, I've seen better, even from that era.

S&Wshooter 02-14-2010 08:45 PM

If you want pure action, just Netflix "The Wild Geese". The whole movie is guys shooting at each other with Uzi's (my favorite subgun) and FAL's (my favorite rifle)

Spartan198 02-15-2010 02:56 AM

Rappers like Scarface because Tony Montana came up from nothing. He came to America with just the clothes on his back at the start of the movie and ended the movie as a millionaire (albeit a dead one).

That why a lot of famous rappers like Tupac keep dying?

S&Wshooter 02-15-2010 04:07 AM

Why aren't the Wu-Tang guys dead then (probably because they are heavily armed and a few have college degrees)?

Mauser 02-15-2010 05:27 AM

Well I tend not to waist my time with what other people do, think, or like. I certainly don’t care if a bunch of morons get infatuated with a movie that I happen to like. People get too hung up on that stupid shit its so annoying. I don’t really care either how much action a movie has; I’m more about how well it is written. Anyway the point being I hate how some people cant make up there own mind.

I also thought it was funny how rappers like to identify with Tony Montana a self destructive man who ruins his friends, family, and own life.

ManiacallyChallenged 02-15-2010 09:09 AM

Heh, aspiring to be like Scarface is like somebody professing to his gal,
"I love you! Like Romeo loved Juliet!"

Excalibur 02-16-2010 05:01 AM

I just saw the shootout in Way of the gun. Pretty good scene and the reloading one hand while clamping the pistol with their legs was also nice.

Clutch 02-28-2010 05:01 AM

Just watched Way of the Gun straight through a few nights ago.

Very, very impressed with the gun handling. The brothel shootout just jumped into my top 5.

The Mercenary 03-05-2010 12:42 AM

Can't believe nobodys mentioned :-

*The Wild Bunch The original shoot out to end shoot outs
*Extreme Prejudice Shoot-out at the end comes straight from TWB

Excalibur 03-06-2010 05:35 PM

I think any John Woo shoot out is a good shoot out

Diego Wolfwood 03-24-2010 05:59 AM

Here's my 5, no particular order:

#1: The shootout in Bad Boys II where they raid the jamaican guy's house and the camera is constantly circling through the rooms as everyone is screaming. I can't believe no one listed this one yet, it was epic.

#2: The final shootout in The Bourne Identity in the stairwell. That was awesome, first slamming the door on the dudes hand and taking his gun, then smashing him through the railing and falling down to the ground, shooting that last guy in the head.

#3: Not sure if it counts as a shootout......but in Aliens where Ripley tapes together a rifle and flamethrower and goes to save Newt. That was just epic.

#4: The final gun fight in Equilibrium, where he fights dozens of sweepers, and it ends it fighting the "father" hand to hand, tryign to shoot each other with their pistols. I also can't believe this one hasn't been mentioned.

#5: The final gun battle in Rambo [2008]. Enough said xD

Zulu Two Six 03-24-2010 08:56 PM

Most of my favorites already mentioned, but there's still a few.The sentry gun scenes in Aliens, when the SWAT tries to stop the T-800 in the lobby of the Cyberdyne building in T2,and the shootout in the store at the begining of The Enforcer.
