Your first "gun" movie
What was the first movie you saw that made you wonder what gun is that guy using and your favorite movie, meaning the star of the movie is a gun you like
Mine was definitely The Matrix. That brought me into guns in general.
Predator, Arnold's M16 with faux M203.
I have always liked guns, didn't need a movie to help with that. The first gun I remeber not being able to ID, that I thought was cool was the gun used by Al Pacino in Heat.
;) |
RoboCop.
Who hasn't wanted to own that Auto 9? |
The Wildey in Death Wish III. Suprisingly enough, I've never really had a problem identifying guns in movies until then
Well, I dunno.
That seems like I should remember... probably Hard Boiled. |
I really don't remember which movie got me to wonder about certain guns. I've been shooting guns since I was 8 years old, but I don't remember getting interested in handguns and assault weapons until I was about 13. That was when I first started getting interested in the military, and so I guess my interest in military/LE-type firearms just kinda grew out of that. I wondered what types of weapons were being carried by our troops in the pictures and news footage I saw, so I started looking at my Dad's old Gun Digest issues, then looking at gun-related sites on the 'Net, and then from then on, whenever I watched movies, I started to be able to ID the guns I saw.
Of course, back then, I wasn't at all aware of the "secrets" of the movie armorer business like I am today - so I wouldn't have been able to tell an M16A2 apart from an M16 SP1 or M16A1 with A2 hand guards, for instance. Or the MP5A3 from the partially-converted HK94A3. In fact, I remember the first time I saw "Predator", I just assumed that the team was using M16A2s and MP5A3s. |
Its funny here, it wasnt really gun movies that got me started, but history channel and military type shows. And the fact I grew up not being able to shoot, my family ranges from anti gun to not caring either way, but no pro gun/shooters.
I discovered about gun specials on the history channel and Discovery channel when I was in College. Didn't know about it until then. I have the first special of History Channel's M16 and then a more recent one.

You guys are making me feel old. ;)
For me, we're talking westerns. True Grit - The Wild Bunch - and Josey Wales. Then early action movies like Bullitt - The Killer Elite and The French Connection. I'm a big McQueen fan and "The Hunter" is still one of those movies I can watch over and over again. I was raised around guns as my family was all sportsmen, hunters, USMC, police officers and gunsmiths. I learned the phrase "That would never happen in real life" as it applied to movies when I was VERY young. |
I need to watch the French Connection
Die Hard. The first 18 cert movie I ever saw and it blew me away. I wanted to know what the MP5s and Steyr were, where I would get them and if I would look good in a vest.
It was a tv show for me miami vice and the bren-ten and that sholder holster. Tv cops with 38s looked dumb after that.
I've always liked action movies and first person shooter games, and I've always liked weapons. Swords, knives, martial arts and of course guns.
First movie that really interested me in guns enough for me to look them up was 'Way of the gun' it was the first movie where I was given graphic examples of different guns and their advantages and disadvantages in actual gunfights. Opened up an entire new realm in my appreciation for firearm usage. |
When I first saw Die Hard, and I begun to wonder how i would be able to use a MP-5,or any other gun in a similar situation...:o
Mission Impossible II. This movie is what turned me into a hard core gun lover. The action sequences were so awesome!
Aliens. I think I was in third or fourth grade. It was like a video game come to life.
Heat. I was curious about the weapons that Al Pacino and Tom Sizemore were using, and that piqued my interest about movie gunfights in general.
I saw Magnum Force when I was fourteen on VHS (1982). I wanted to know more about both Colt Pythons and S&W Model 29's. Around that same time I saw Sharkeys Machine and I was hooked on handguns.
Not a movie for me, a video game. Goldeneye 007, I knew Bond carried a PPK, not a "PP7" and it got me curious about what the other guns were.
Same as above, James Bond' PPK has been a solid mark in my mind.
