So, I am finally selling my S&W 4506

Now that I have moved back to NC, I'm going to sell the Smith & Wesson 4506-1 that my grandfather gave me a couple years back. It's for sale at TFL, here.

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...d.php?t=356864

And here are the pictures I took:

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads-up, although I'm only going to be doing FTF sales at this time.

Gunmaster45 05-10-2009 09:39 PM

Shit, I'm asking my dad if I can buy it! :D

k9870 05-10-2009 09:44 PM

cant wait till my 21st birthday, im buying a SMith 627 PC and a Dan Wesosn Valor first off, then my collection will grow from there

Yournamehere 05-11-2009 12:06 AM

Boy is that a nice firearm. Wish I could drive up and buy it. Course I don't have any money. Or a car. And I already have a .45. Good luck with selling it though, not like you'll need it, people dig the 4506.

k9870 05-11-2009 12:33 AM

Local police like theirs. the 4506 has taken care of a few murderers and drug dealers around here.

That wouldn't be legal. You'd be crossing state lines to buy FTF, which is a big no-no with ATF.

If you really want it, and ever do have the money, and I don't sell it in the near future, I will be happy to ship to your FFL. Just for IMFDB members. Anyone else, I think I'll keep it FTF. ;)

True, but cops tend to be big buys with big hands, so a good grip on a handle that size is easy for them. As you can see from my picture, I don't really have very big hands, so the 4506 isn't such a good choice for me.

MT2008 05-11-2009 01:24 AM

BTW, right now, I'm looking to buy a compact (but not sub-compact) pistol which I can use for conceal carry in the future. I think either an XD Compact or Glock 19 might be best (and yes, I know I've bitched about how Glocks' grips feel, but I've decided I can overlook that for conceal carry). Something like a S&W 6900 series might work for me, too. I also thought about the P229 SAS, but decided against it because I already have a SIG, plus the SAS model is hard to find for $500 (which is my price limit).

k9870 05-11-2009 01:26 AM

You still planning on 9mm? Also, have you looked at the CZ RAMI pistols?

Hmmm, might not be a bad choice. I thought about the compact Baby Eagle.

I also had the chance to hold a Para Ordnance Carry 9 not long ago. Would be nice, but those are also out of my price range, at least for now. Anyone know how they shoot?

Oh, yeah, and as for caliber, 9mm is preferred, but maybe .40 would be satisfactory. I don't anticipate this piece getting that much range time.

k9870 05-11-2009 02:06 AM

Heard great things about the RAMI, a compact 40 like that may kick bad though.

Yournamehere 05-11-2009 02:19 AM

I personally advise against a Compact .40. Even full size guns kick a bit, and compacts with defense loads, you're looking at some wild shooting. Stick with a 9.

A 69 series is a good choice if you can tolerate the weight and slight bulkiness, same with a Baby Eagle (did you guys know Charles Daly has one now?). Glock 19, no complaints if you're confident in the safe action system.

Gunmaster45 05-11-2009 03:01 AM

I see all of those Focus Combat concealed carry pros like Rob Pincus carrying Glock 19s, so I guess that would be the ideal selection. I shot one once but it was a night so accuracy was kind of pointless. I thought it fit the hand nice and shot well. The good thing about a wide grip is a larger magazine well, meaning you can insert a magazine easier and faster. Practice those tactical reloads!

k9870 05-11-2009 03:11 AM

I hate glocks, but if you like it they are reliable. I just never could grip it confortably, or get over the weird trigger and the fact they slap in poor factory barrels.

ManiacallyChallenged 05-11-2009 05:17 AM

Oh man, I wish I could buy that. I love the 4506.
Good luck selling it well.

MT2008 05-11-2009 11:03 PM

No bids so far.

Gunmaster45 05-11-2009 11:09 PM

I still haven't gotten to talk to my dad about it, but I seriously would be interested in buying this gun. I'll try to convince him with every ounce of annoyance I posses. Wish me luck...:D

ManiacallyChallenged 05-12-2009 02:53 AM

Usually the kids beg for icecream or car keys.
GM begs for a Smith and Wesson.

Excalibur 05-12-2009 03:07 AM

I'd buy it, but even at my location and the promise of meeting half way...still a long travel time for a gun that costs up to $500

k9870 05-12-2009 03:08 AM

What im wondering, If I go to the academy when I'm 20, which is how old ill be when I graduate school, and become an officer, am I still restricted from buying a pistol? It would be rediculous to not be able to buy a off-duty carry (try CCing a 4506 lol)

Excalibur 05-12-2009 03:20 AM

Most cops do have off duty pistols and then some. I know one with an XD-9 subcompact, a Mossberg 500, and a Judge plus some kind of Ruger with a 6+1 shot mag that fires .380s

Anyway, I really want to get this gun, but I remember I am broke. So unless he takes long installments, there's no way i'm getting this before someone nabs it first

Oh, I can't sell to you FTF if you're not in my state (NC). That would be illegal. However, for IMFDB members only, I will see about shipping to your FFL.

I don't like the grips on Glocks, either. But the thing is, that's a lot less important in conceal-carry.

I would try an XD Compact or something else like it, I guess, though I still haven't fired one, so I can't be sure I'll love it. Whereas I have at least fired the G19 and am already familiar with Glocks generally.

Nah. It isn't shiny or anything. In fact, it's all beat up and the gold plating is worn off in some spots

I wouldn't sell it since it was a gift from your grandfather. Even if you don't shoot it, I think you would regret it later.

Yeah, I totally agree. And it's a pretty nice gun. Decent piece + sentimental value = Keeper.

MT2008 09-02-2010 10:52 PM

It's been a year since I posted this topic and I still have the 4506, even though I don't shoot it. So I'd say that that means, it's probably going to be with me for a while.

As for it being my Grandfather's gun - he wanted to sell it for years but never got around to it. He almost never shot it (which is why it's in such great condition).

Was he a small/normal size guy? 4506's are really a big man's gun

Sorry I didn't see this, sooner...he's about my height, 5'9". And yes, the 4506 is clearly meant for bigger people.

I think S&W's goal with the 4506 was to make the most overbuilt pistol known to man
