Member Ages

hey All,

I'm wondering what the rest of you guys and GM's sis think about the fact that a couple of new users list their ages as ten and eleven. Personally I think that either A: they are lieing about their ages or B: They are too young to be on a site like this as we do write about adult subjects that happen in films(Like some serious amounts of violence). I'm looking at it from a community responsibility angle. Basically I would be really leary about having a kid look at some of the Action movie pages.

k9870 04-23-2009 09:34 PM

Public site, member or not they'd be able to see it anyway. I was watching action movies at taht age anyway. Most people let you see violent movies if theres no sex involved.

Exactly. I'm not really sure it's that big a deal.

Gunmaster45 04-23-2009 10:49 PM

I never understood why people don't censor violence but censor sex. More people plan to have sex in the future than kill other people, so shouldn't it be the other way around?

I too noticed some 10-year-olds on the site. They write like shit, have poor grammar, and contribute to the site's "flash game majority", which we all know should remain ZERO. I grew up young so at 15 you could consider me 20, at least, IMO.

I should also point out, with the amount of porn and real-life violence you can find on the net, IMFDB isn't the worst thing they could be looking at.

MoviePropMaster2008 04-23-2009 11:57 PM

Well i have a concern in that many free membership sites like Myspace or facebook have age restrictions so that YOUNG children are not mixed in with older children, minors and young adults. I'm just waiting for the inevitable member who is aged SEVEN. Is there ANY chance an internet watchdog group will condemn us for exposing 'minor's to gun violence? I'm not saying it's not stupid, but is it possible in this crazy world we live in?

But then like my golden retriever has dog years ... Gunmaster45 is 47 in armorer "years". ;)

Interesting way of putting it! :D I agree wholeheartedly.

That strikes me as unlikely. Think of it this way - you hear about zillions of these watchdog groups going after video games like the "Grand Theft Auto" series, but do they ever go after the fan sites like PlanetGTA (hosted by Gamepsy) if they have younger members? If they have, I haven't heard of it.

And if it does happen, I see no reason why we shouldn't tell them to go fuck themselves.

If anyone's going to start saying how old they are, remember this, try not to explain your background too much, sometimes to people online, it sounds like you're bullshitting.

Like example "I'm 14, but I'm mature for my age." Don't say that, you'll be treated the same way. I prefer not saying how old you are at all and let your writing speak for yourself than your age number.

Okay. I was buying ARMs in the early 1980s, I picked up one of those Clayco AKMs in 1982 ....

OH! BTW, I'm only 22 years old! Officially! ;)

ManiacallyChallenged 04-24-2009 08:33 AM

Just like in Hot Fuzz.
When's your birthday?
January 31st.
What year?
EVERY YEAR.

gunknut91 04-24-2009 04:06 PM

well im 18 and as it was only 8 years ago that i was 10 i would like to say if half the kids today were like me when i was ten they are impressionable and try to copy stuff which isnt good

Spartan198 05-12-2009 06:51 PM

25, turning 26 this year. No 10 year old here. ;)

Gunmaster45 05-12-2009 10:58 PM

I may be 15, but as I've said before I try to make a good impression around older people, and hate being talked down to like I'm "a kid". I guess teenager is better, but I feel more like an adult trapped in a teen's body. I goof off with friends some times but I don't do illegal shit, stay away from drugs, and am friendly with cops. Compared to other kids I know, I'm on a different level of maturity. I also write professionally because it always drives me crazy when people write like idiots (no offense). I don't text often or write on AIM so I don't have the practice to write like a jackass. (no offense again, not everyone does this who texts and writes on AIM).

I don't always spell excellently though, as you can sometimes tell on the pages I make :D. It's not that I can't spell, it's jus that I'm in a rush and don't have time to check on spell check to see if Neccessary has 1 C or 2.

ManiacallyChallenged 05-14-2009 02:47 AM

I noticed that you consider yourself 20 GM...
That makes you spiritually older than I actually am. So... respect to you, I suppose.

Gunmaster45 05-14-2009 09:30 PM

Turning 16 next month. So at least I can drive :D.

k9870 05-14-2009 09:51 PM

My profile says im college aged, whatever that means LOL (18)

ManiacallyChallenged 05-15-2009 08:22 AM

Wow that's a lot of years.
We could measure age by the following system.
1 year for each page created.
.5 year for each page contributed to.
That makes me 2.5 years old in what I'm going to call the new proprietary "Leveled System of IMFDB Age."

I'm still a newbie, by that standard. Or any standard. We could also award a month for each board post. :)

Gunmaster45 05-16-2009 01:39 AM

Have you looked at my list of pages made?! I'd be about 320 years old (and rising), not including actor and gun pages! (I only list movie, tv, VG, anime)

Uh, no, I would NOT create an age system based on pages, for the exact reasons GM45 lists.

What sucks is that GM45 is years older than most of the new members. We're getting folks who aren't even old enough to be in Junior High School yet. When GM45 is 'the old man' we're in trouble. hahaha

Gunmaster45 05-16-2009 08:58 PM

Yeah, a lot of 10 year olds are hitting the site, and it isn't pleasant.

You mean like the guy I banned whose only input to pages was "I like boobs" ?

Gunmaster45 05-17-2009 01:48 AM

Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

ManiacallyChallenged 05-17-2009 07:39 AM

I concur with that statement.

Spartan198 05-18-2009 01:31 AM

I agree with the guy above me.
