Wikipedia

Hey guys. I am going to attempt to add an entry for IMFDB to Wikipedia. The page was previously deleted because it was poorly done. Is there anyone who would be interested in helping to contribute? Every little bit helps... I want to get a bunch of stuff together BEFORE I add the page so that it doesn't get deleted right away. Anyone interested feel free to post on my talk page! Also, if anyone can find any press attention that the site has received that would be super helpful!

Maybe we can show them this:

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/imfdb.org

We're higher than the Heroes Wiki that has a page on Wikipedia. (Really, Heroes?)

funkychinaman 06-07-2012 07:02 PM

That info is fascinating. Apparently we're big in Taiwan (surprising) and with childless male students (not the least surprising.)

zackmann08 06-08-2012 02:47 AM

That will definitely help!!!

zackmann08 06-08-2012 08:08 PM

Does IMFDB have a "slogan"? If not, can we make one!? :-D (this is for the article not just totally random).

Below is a VERY rouogh draft of the page. I could really use help with the text. Anyone have any contributions? Anything that I should be sure to include?? Every little bit helps...

--------------------

History
Launched in May of 2007, The Internet Movie Firearm Database (IMFDB) was originally set up to help identify the use of firearms in Hollywood films. For the first few months of its existence, it listed only a dozen films including The Matrix, Platoon and Pulp Fiction. As the site grew, so did its content. In June of 2007, the site began to list Television shows as well as films. The site has since been expanded to include pages for Video Games and Anime.

Today the data base has grown to list over 2600 films, nearly 500 television shows, over 450 video games and close to 200 Anime series.

Structure & Content

The database is set up to help curious moviegoers find out just what firearms are used in the film that they happen to be watching.

The site features many images of actual screen used weapons. One such gun is the Auto Ordanace 1911A1 that was used by John Travolta in the 1994 film Pulp Fiction. IMFDB is able to get these images because many of its largest contributors are weapons specialist working in Hollywood on films.

Admins work hard to make sure that pages remain up to par.

No homemade films are permitted.

Movie Mistakes

IMFDB also makes an effort to point out mistakes made in meda as the relate to firearms. For example, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 incorrectly shows a Desert Eagle firing double action or the classic "never needs a reload" in which the hero character seems to have a never ending supply of bullets and is never forced to reload a gun that in reality only holds 7 rounds.

It should have the current logo of IMFDB on the top right like all pages. And a screen shot of the main page some where. We should have a screen cap of one of the most popular pages or "well done" pages as an example.

Maybe a list of the admins

zackmann08 06-09-2012 06:33 PM

Definitely gna have the logo! Right now I'm working on the page in my own user space on wikipedia so its not actually an article yet, its just a draft. But you can check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Za...rearm_Datebase. I need to wait until it becomes part of the actually site to upload an image to it.

Absolutelyi NOT! Perhaps we list bunni as the founder, but if YOU want all of the avalanche of questions by 10 year olds directed towards YOU, go ahead...... If they wish to know who the admins are, it is easy to figure out once they are a member.

zackmann08 06-09-2012 07:35 PM

Yea... I'm not planning on listing the admins by name (or user name for that mater). MPM, I'd love any input you have for the page tho!

So how's the wiki page coming along?

Slow... I'm in the middle of Finals week at college. I could REALLY use some help. I mainly just need more text and information about the sight. Unfortunately there is no "About Us" section on IMFDB.

Right now the page is in my userspace on wikipedia (not part of the actual site yet). Feel free to add to it!

I thought we no longer allowed anonymous users to edit ANY pages after the events of last May. Did Bunni just protect every page that existed then?

What is this in response to? Something on the wiki page or something on IMFDB?

Also, what happened last May???

"Registration Optional (required for certain tasks such as editing protected pages)"
It's required to edit at all, ever since we had a bunch of spambots roll on through. As in way, way more than we have now.

I think you could just merge the mistakes thing into general content and that it doesn't really require an example.

Gotcha and sounds good! Can you help me by giving me a bit of "About Us" type info? even just bullet points would be nice...

I would also get rid of or change the part about "Admins work hard to make sure that pages remain up to par". Although true this is purely subjective and is not impartial, and will just get deleted by someone anyway.

A VERY good point... It wasn't a full thought yet, i was going to try to turn it into a paragraph but your right.

zackmann08 06-14-2012 06:50 PM

I'm going to submit the page shortly. Anyone want to make any additions??

zackmann08 07-26-2012 02:31 PM

It lives!!!

It looks like the page is actually surviving!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interne...earms_Database PLEASE check it out and contribute!!!

funkychinaman 07-26-2012 04:04 PM

Looks like it already survived one attempt at deletion.

commando552 07-26-2012 05:01 PM

Could a screen shot of the main page be added at the top of the infobox, that is what people tend to do with wiki pages isn't it?

Jcordell 07-28-2012 12:01 PM

Looks good. We have arrived.
