Thanks. The MR-73 was just a flukey find. The previous owner owned a local Honda dealership and was a huge gun collector. As in hundreds of pieces.
But in 2008 he was diagnosed with Cancer. By the time they caught it he was in end stage and only had a few months. He gave away all of his guns to his friends and family members. Whatever was left over (perhaps fifty some pieces all togther) were sold off. The MR-73 was one of those sold off. I traded a S&W 686 and a nice trap model Winchester Model 12 shotgun for it. I figured I would probably never see one an MR-73 for sale again. Certainly not here in Idaho. They're all very good shooters. The Glocks and the Model 49 Bodyguard are my duty pieces. I usually carry either the Model 49 or the Glock 26 when off duty. Now that it's getting colder and I'm wearing sweaters and sweatshirts I like to carry the G19 on my belt. |
I envy your Colt Trooper and Colt Lawman.
The Trooper was the duty gun of Earl Lee Swagger. |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that. lol
Based on my investitgation into the Arkansas Highway Patrol, Earl Lee should have been packing a S&W M&P with a 4 inch barrel. |

While Earl Lee does seem to be the type to use something other than a .38, and often does, even if still a varient of the 38 round. (.357 Magnum, .38-44, Super .38), the .38 Spl was the go to police issue service round of it's day.l
And hell, even old Mr. Ed and mean old Charlie carried .38 Specials when they went up the river to rid the world of Thebes. |

Which is why I just had to own both a S&W Model 28 and a Colt Trooper. ;) Actually I like Stephen Hunter's novels. As I've gotten older I've become a bigger fan of the 38 Spl and 9mm Parabellum. Thanks to the advances in bullet designs over the past twenty-five years the rounds are pretty effective. I shoot well with both the 9mm Glocks and 38 revolvers and the ammo isn't as expensive as .357 and 45 ACP. Also ,as a collector of revolvers, I discovered that often the older 38 Spl revolvers are lower priced than the .357 magnums and the 38 Spl models are usually in better shape than the magnums. Plus many folks don't want a "wimpy" 38 - even if it is a classic. So the selection is better. The .357 and 45 are great loads. I'm not starting a caliber debate here. |
I like how everybody loads with 38-44 in his novels, even loading detective specials with them historical accuracy might be a little off but books were cool.

Very nice collection Checkman - I still love that 1899 M&P and the Heavy Duty.
|
Thanks Nyles. You have a nice collection as well.

"Revolvers..."

I strap on a Glock 21 every morning. It's reliable, it's in my price range, I have two spare mags for it, it chews all matter of hollow points, I can hit Minute of Fat Guy with it, nothing in the world against Glock, except thier fanboys, but don't think that I wouldn't trade it in for a S&W 19 or Heavy Duty in a heartbeat.

I'm a product of my time and I like my Glocks. They work and they are reliable. They're my duty pistols. But I honestly consider them tools. My revolvers are different. |
