The Blade Thread

Heres my well worn crkt m16, great blade, light to be confortable and big enough for good use, when cutting lines the serrations saw through like its nothing and we get a real nice feel in hand, the safety of a double lock, and it looks cool. Only grip is the screws on the clip sucked, one fell out and i needed to locktite the 2 remaining screws. Its fairly fast to deploy but may need oil every once in a while.
Now im looking at a benchmade triage, seems to be the ultimate rescue blade and is in cg recue orange which is cool. Maybe even get a kukri (great camping blade and its a kukri, which is awesome.) Got any favorite blades? |
that crkt is a massive blade. my friend has one.
|
The CRKT is a bit bigger than many of the tiny edc marketed blades but it is still very light due to all the milling on the handle bringing down mass. a big blade is more useful to me. I like the partially serrated edge (many knife snobs hate them) but i am frequently cutting rope at drills and it comes in handy.

I carry around a Gerber Covert Automatic.
|
Currently I'm still carrying my Coleman fixed 4 3/4" blade. Want to invest in a Boker Magnum Blitz button folder. They stopped selling it in my cutlery magazine Kensaw. Don't know where else I can get it (since I don't use paypal or credit cards to buy online).

cuttleryshoppe gives free shipping with a nutnfancy gear code.
|
Why do so man "knife guys" bash partially serrated blades? It cuts rope or nylon/webbing type material so much easier, its very useful.
|
I don't like the melding of a saw and knife on a small blade. Plus they're nearly impossible to sharpen correctly, and frankly, I can achieve the same affect with a straight blade on rope.
|
I have a large blade and can use both parts effectively.
|
Ordered a benchmade 915 in orange and a spyderco sharpmaker that will arrive friday.
|
I've been looking for that knife Jason Statham pulled out and flipped open in Expendable to deflate a basketball.
|
I liked the throwing knives in that movie.

yep. But ive handles many benchmade blades (friend was a huge fanboy and had a bunch) and found the quality great. And my CRKT is a bit big to carry when not on duty, a BDU pocket holds it great but when im out and about i need a smaller blade. The features kick ass too. And i used the nutnfancy gear code for free shipping:) Guy hooks us up with sweet deals a lot.
Cutlerylover reviewed the spyderco. A lot of blade forums swear by it too. |
Future knies id like are a kukri, prob cold steel, a large camp blade of some kind, and who knows what else, maybe a dedicated huntin knife.

Back when I started working over a decade ago, I carried a large S&W SWAT knife, but I quickly realized that pulling that out to open a box in an office environment may freak some people out, or lead to me getting fired and/or arrested. I went smaller, and one of the choices, the one I have with me today, is a S&W Pocket Protector. My biggest complaint about is that the thumb stud sticks out too much and pokes into my hand when I put my hands in my pockets. The funny thing is, the thumb stud is also unnecessary, as I just use the thumb hole to open it. I also got a small Gerber Ridge at the same time, and that one lies a lot flatter, and doesn't poke my hand. They're both pretty useful for normal tasks, and won't freak people out.

i really want a cold steel rajah
|
Right now i am carrying a Big 5 folding knife (I don't remember the exact brand but it was on sale cheap and i needed a couple of folding knives as I broke one). Other than that I've been getting alot of use out of an 18' machete my dad picked up down in LA. Apparently dad came to the US with just a suitcase and no money. he talked his way into a hotel maintenace job in South/Central LA. Someone left a machete and my dad snagged it. I've refurbished the machete once and with the amount of use I'm giving it i might have to do so again sometime soon.

It came Early!
Gonna read some instructions on the spyderco sharpmaker and get to work. BTW the knife is bigger but better shaped so actually carries better and has more capability. |

yes and yes. But i dont necessarily like small blades. Im 6' 215 and pretty much wear pants all the time so can take it easily, the 915 is nice and flat and feels good in pocket though, the crkt has served very well but the g10 handle on the benchmade is just way easier to hold. I like the serrations on the m16 blade for cutting rope and such but hate sharpening it.
I think the m16 has easier deployment but I just need practice on the 915. |
i want to get a cold steel spartan
|
I want a cold steel gurka kukri, there just completely badass. And seeing the review of it de limbing trees justifies it as a camp blade. And also, once you read this: http://badassoftheweek.com/shrestha.html you dont need to justify buying one, just get it.
The rajah is cool, a folding mini kukri. Expensive though. |
im thinking of getting acamera when my drill pay comes in, and filming a mini review on the knife, i got an old boot to test the rescue cutter and it will be fun, just got a good youtube channel together.

How do gurkas carry their kukris, they seem a bit big to put on lbe. But they are just awesome, a knife that splits logs like an axe and takes down bad guys.
|
I bought a Spyderco Paramilitary for $120 today, which is my first purchase with the new credit card

More of my "office knives."
The Gerber Ridge lies flatter than the S&W. The Spyderco BRK Native isn't really a Spyderco, despite the name being all over the thing. That doesn't really bother me. For what I do with it around here, it serves me well. It's bigger than the S&W and the Gerber, so I usually wear it with my jeans instead of khakis. |

I got a paasonic stadard def flashdriv camcorder today on sale. Gonna make a vid later showing some capabilities of the blades.

Filmed a review, just having trouble with the upload.

Sonofabitch! The Case knife is stainless steel
|
Reproduction WWII era Smachet.
It's a big knife and while IMO not as efficient as a fighting Bowie knife it's a huge dagger. |
