Any MILITARY CHANNEL fans, or fanatics out there?

Any MILITARY CHANNEL fans, or fanatics out there?

One of my favorite channels, especially when there isn't crap on TV. Plus it's on 24/7, does all the top 10 lists the whole bit.

I used to watch it, but everything on there is about the Airforce and Navy. Where's the love for the Army and Marines?

I agree, if there's nothing else on, the Military Channel always has something half decent on. Same with the Military History Channel. I don't like that it's not in HD, though.

Just got done watching D-Day and the liberation of Europe.

ARMY baby.

My dad was WWII and Korea NAVY, one uncle Air Corps WWII and another uncle was in a tank in Europe.

You wouldn't believe the Nazi stuff he got, looked like "Kelly's Heros". They'd smash their tanks into buildings and loot it.

When I was young I got to hold Lugars, daggers, he gave us a helmet.

BUT he had tons of stuff including those wall size red Nazi flags....finally donated some to museums before he died not long ago.

Well, the Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard are fairly ignored in movies (except in movies that have to do with fighter pilots and stuff like that) so at least they are getting attention somewhere.

Yeah it can be quite boring at sea, in reality for months on end sometimes (less so in the high tech era, you can web cam home).

I still like to see the CG take out those narco drug super boats!

Most nights I can find something on....especially with a 19" TV on my huge rolltop desk next to my computer. ;)

I faintly remember some show on the History Channel where they filmed some Coast Guardsmen shooting out the engine on a drug dealer's boat with a fifty cal as they flew in a helicopter.

I'm a big WWII history fan but also like when they cover Korea "The Forgotten War" (part 1 of 2 on now) or Viet Nam which was my generation.

BeardedHoplite 02-28-2011 10:08 PM

I like watching WWII in Color when it's on.

MT2008 03-01-2011 04:44 PM

Used to watch the Military Channel when I was younger (and it had a different name), but not so much now. It's partially because I don't use my TV for anything but XBox, but also because their approach to military history and technology bores me.

Oh, and being a grad student in security studies has made me cynical about that kinda stuff.

I used to be very excited to watch some of the military and firearms oriented things on that channel, but since I've used the internet very well, searching for vids on specific things aren't really an issue to me. And I can't seem to take the Military Channel seriously anymore and it does get boring.

Programs about World War 2- 5%

Anything else- 4%

Another inevitable fact of living in the Modern World.

Given time, advertsing pressure and demographics the good cable channels will eventually devolve into showing mediocre crappy (i.e. cheap) programming designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Actually most of the United State's entertainment media shows middling fluff at best and not very often. Most of the time it's just crap. And the time it takes for the channels to slide into the muck is getting faster and faster.

Seems like it took a good ten or twelve years for A&E to end up in the sewer. The Military Channel lost it in about two or three years from when it started up.

It's all about profit. Shit makes money and shit is cheap to make. Seems like the whole fucking world has learned that lesson. But what the hell as long as we have Facebook right?

100% correct. It's about making quick money and not risking a lot more money to make more expensive quality TV.

Sadly the rise of "reality TV" has ruined many channels. Stick a mic and camera in front of some unknown idiots and roll.....and there is a market for it, low cost filler. Hot dogs vs steak.

A few might be OK, most stink.
