Yep. I love diversity.

What do these guys have against helmets? In all of the Brazillian pics, I don't think I've seen a single guy wearing a helmet, or any sort of cover for that matter. I know a helmet won't stop a bullet, but at least it'd be protection against thrown projectiles, and it'd protect the wearer when he's riding in the bed of a pickup. Some of them are wearing body armor, so they're at acknowledging that people might be shooting back.

Not to mention a crew ct in bearing sun will lead to a burnt scalp. A cover would help a lot.

funkychinaman 12-14-2010 02:45 PM

A ballcap would at least shield their eyes from the sun. Isn't it summer down there right now?

Even a hockey helmet would protect against wood and concrete splinters and chips from ricochets.

Wild west down there. Or is it the Wild South?

The Wild West is too modest a comparison. Rio de Janeiro's favelas are more like Basra. Or Kandahar. Brazilian drug dealers operate like insurgents more than criminals.

Look at the Galil. Is that a .30?

Madsens apparently aren't the only vintage light MGs in Brazil. Aside from the ZB 26's, also note the old school Thompson.

Given the haphazard way some of the paint is applied (with the outline of the carrying handle, in one case) I have a feeling most of the paint was applied by the cops. The stenciling on the barrels might be gang markings though.

Yeah, I was gonna say. Black gangbangers may talk like that, but not Mexican cartel soldiers. Totally different brand of scumbag.

This bugs the crap out of me every time I hear it and I just have to correct you here. There is no such thing as "South Central Los Angeles". That phrase implies a neighborhood or district in the southern portion of the central part of the city. What does exist is "South Central", so called because it is a neighborhood that is centered on South Central Avenue (the southern half of Central Avenue).

Also it's silly to continue to refer to these organizations as "cartels". They do not operate that way at all.
