Shot show predictions
well its in january but some info is leaking, some is to be seen.
Sphinx and Steyr are going to import the 3000 and m series, im pumped for those. Ithaca is making a comeback it seems, theyre introducing 1911s they made, and it seems that model 37s may be made on a larger basis. colts dao 1911 (insert puke smilie here) Im willing to bet more companies will be making pocket .380s, just what we need......not. Focus will probably still be on small cary guns. What do you think well see? |

If the world were perfect, S&W would announce they would once again start manufacturing all those kick ass revolver they foolishly put out of production and that they will stop with all those goddamn polymer guns. But that is as likely to happen as H&K finally letting us have a friggin semi auto MP5 that is neither a rimfire or neutered

First, hes not funny, just thinks he is, second, MEC Gar pretty much has covered the higer cap same size thing for most brands and mags are almost uniformly awesome in quality (there the manuacturerer for many factory mags already.) I dont see why everybody doesnt use them, but then again there are people who still use 7 round 1911 mags instead of 8. Flush fit mags i can think of: 18 sig 226 9mm (usual 15) 19 cz 75 9mm (usual 16) 15 brownign hp (usually 13) beretta 92 is like 17 or 18, lots of other mags too. |
I want to see rifles sold in hard cases, its cheap that handguns get a hard case but a rifle is in a cardboard box.

There are some rifles sold in hard cases

My Bushmaster came with a hard case too

Pretty much every reputable AR manufacturer sells their gun with a hard case now, at least that's what I've found online. Nowadays though, people want and expect as much for their money as possible, so all of these "package deals" are popping up, where you get not just a gun, but the gun, a case, an extra magazine or two, a cleaning kit, a lock, a magazine loader, or any combination of these things. I don't want to say it's true for every gun you will see in a shop today, though, since a lot of those guns have probably been sitting there for a couple years trying to get sold, and the package deal thing is, again, relatively recent, at least on a widespread basis. I know Browning and Beretta for the longest time included a case of some sort with their pistols, as well as extra magazines from time to time, but it wasn't really as much of a norm as it is now.
It also depends on the type of firearm too. I can see the justification for certain rifles and shotguns not having a case is that they are "sporting guns" and are made to be used or whatever, and most of the time, they are built as economically as possible, so a good price can be passed onto the buyer, and if a factory hard case is included, that could mark up the gun and result in a loss in sales. They'd rather sell the gun alone at a low price and have someone buy a hard or soft rifle case for a seperate price (probably made by a company they own anyway) then have to force that price on them at the start. ARs are probably an exception since they aren't generally considered sporting guns, and whoever buys them already knows they're gonna put down a grand, what's an extra 20-50 dollars for a rifle when it comes with a case? Anyhow, I don't know what we'll see this year, but I can say with a lot of confidence that it won't be breathtaking. I don't expect anything drastically innovative (more AR or 1911 clones?), and whatever is there that is even remotely innovative won't be "worth it" because it'll be an unproven design with not much more to offer for the change anyway. We've sort of plateaued with regard to firearms, so all we've been getting and probably will get are small tweaks in proven designs that people know, recognize and trust, or innovations in accessories and gear. There's also new imports to look forward to apparently, like k9870 said. |
most hunting rifles get a cardboard box

Looking around and it looks like the STG 556 comes in a Hardcase and it looks beautiful.

I know one thing we will see in the year 2011 at shot show...a shit load of 1911s...from every company you can think of. 100 years baby!
|
Yeah lots of Ar-15s and 1911s.
I head microtec is having pistol caliber AR clones and a 9mm the size of a naa guardian, and that GSG (the people who have the mp5 clone) will have something new, i hope its a 22 ak. |

Trijicon is making 6x acogs with wider objective lenses.

Im also thinking SIG may start the p210 legend import.

The problem is its a bullpup, awkward reloads and crappy trigger. The aug has a rep as solidly built though, and the microtec is supposed to have a better trigger and accuracy on par with steyr.
|
The p210 looks awesome, its supposed to match accuracy of old models, but has a grip mag release, smoother more deliberate safety lever, and a beavertail rehape.
It'll be pricy but made to be a competition gun. |

In terms of specific bullpup designs, however, most of the bad-mouthing I've heard comes at the expense of the SA-80 family. It's worth noting that Australian spec ops groups, like the British SAS, also use AR-15 type weapons instead of the bullpups that their regular troops use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CDT-1.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aust_SOC.jpg |
My prediction. Mauser is going to bring back the C96 Broomhandle due to popular demand. And it will be priced at $900 MSRP!
Yeah I know it's a pipe dream. Oh well. It's a great fantasy for those of us into the old guns. |
Well recently I bought a luger, and it was shit. Jammed on every 230 grain load, even FMJ. I tried 185s, fmj was okay but i had failure to lockback on the last round. There was also a tacky looking eagle on the side i had to dremel off to make the gun look sleeker. I traded it in. Maybe a c96 will be the ticket...
just kidding:D |
For a second or two you almost had me until I realized you said 230 grain. Pretty funny.

Back on the AUG, I've read great things about it. The only bad thing I've heard was really the trigger pull.
|
Actually Norinco built a Luger a while back. It was UGLY, and probably didn`t function very well, and they abandonned it for lack of commercial viability.
|
The AUG is a op gun, not a soldier gun, IMO.
Its quick handling, accurate and reliable at close range, and high capacity. IT would make a neat patrol rifle. Maybe this year beretta will release a 92 with a frame safety and a grip that doesnt feel like a brick, and hk will have standard 1913 rails instead of their crap ones. |
I would love to see a 92 with a slimmer grip.

Ill still never buy one :p
Just if they make it better i wont have to make fun of it as hard, it gets exausting. |
This is becoming more a wishlist than predictions but i want to see crimson trace wood lasergrips that look good and for more than just 1911s. SIG wood lasergrips (of high quality) would kick ass.
The burlwood shown on their site looks awful. |
I hope the 1911s look cool, like an old chool reproduction, not some over blinged up abomination like so many anniversary models have been.
And they need to be affordable, not overpriced limited editions *cough* kimber *cough* |
