P90 demo in Stargate
One of my favorite scenes for a while in Stargate was the demo in an episode when compared to the energy staff weapons the Jaffa use. It always gives me a chuckle that a so called advanced race of people would use advanced technology in a weapon design that is very archaic. On a tech standpoint, the energy weapon has almost unlimited ammo, it goes through the standard bulletproof vests Marines wear like nothing, but it is extremely inaccurate because the weapon comes out of a staff and there is no real way to aim the weapon. If such a tech was designed on a rifle with iron sights, then it would work.

I liked that scene even though the P90 shouldn't be able to saw a log in half.
And the P90's effective range is not 5 times that log either.
Well, the weapon would not be fired accurately, but the rounds could still inflict casualties.
Well, if they need long range weapons it just gets built into script, like "hey we have a g36k for some reason although its usually a p90."
Or, "Hey, we've got M16s, SAWs, sniper rifles, MP5s, and shotguns, but we just loving plugging how awesome the P90 is"

No, tey wanted something that looked futuristic and cool, the p90 wasnt as mainstream as it is now when they started showing it.
If I recall, haven't movie armorers had a lot of trouble getting blanks for P90s? There's a story going around about how "Stargate:SG1" had to cut back on P90 use around the time of the Iraq War because the company that made the 5.7mm blanks was also a U.S. government contractor and had to shift to manufacturing 5.56x45mm (live) for the war. I can't verify this, but it's what I've read on the 'Net.

Well i remember the g36k and carters special carbine being more prominent for a while.
One of the best scenes in the show.
This might also explain why we haven't even seen a single P90 on Stargate Universe and there hasn't been a lot of shoot outs and more episodes with the G36Ks, M4s, and other weapons

SGU has no p90s :(
The more annoying part is the post edit sound for the guns sometimes sound exactly the same!
Seriously, Stargate, a show about shooting aliens, galactic war, space battles and guns all over the place...and in SGU we only see them firing the guy in 2 maybe 3 episodes out of 20. |
yeah i hope SGU gets more action soon, the finale was awesome with the gunfights in the ship but the rest o the season had very little action.
I was watching an atlantis rerun recently where they go to the midway station and wraith invade it, and shepherd hands his p14 to a scientist, then later is seen shooting the main wraith with it. Like he had 2 or something. |

The beretta has killed plenty of bad guys in it, just the .45 is cooler, especially in standoff scenes when the big old barrel is in your face.
I was hoping the new Stargate Universe have different guns that we don't see often. It is cool to see Type 97s.
I hope universe has more gunplay in season 2, seeign we had to wait till the last 2 of the season to get any.
i also noticed none of the pockets typically on their tac vests are big enough for p90 mags. Not that they reload anyway. In an atlantis episode telc and ronon grab g36s and no spare amo and shoot hundreds of rounds.
Actually in several episodes of Stargate Atlantis, there are pockets for the P90 mags and I've seen one scene where Shepard reloads his G36.
well atlantis they do have the pouches, sg1 they dont. And they show reloading scenes in sg1, just never show where the mag comes from.
BTW, anyone know which episode tealc dual wielded p90s? |
