So did I get ripped on a P08?

Now I said P08, not POS! ;) LOL

Hey, I own guns and work on films with them, doesn't mean I'm an expert on actual dollar values of all older stuff. I have tons of friends who are GURUS on older guns and their values, but none of them are around, and the guys who ARE around give me wildly variable values.

STORY: A friend owes me $500. He's broke. He says "take my P08" he's owned since 1982. It's a pre WW2 commercial version, matching numbers, original holster, holster wear, some pitting, good bore, 80% blue, three war time magazines.

I've run into enough "friends" who quote "$250" that I'm going to do a sanity check with other guys who know guns......

And no, I can't find my bluebook value of guns edition, so I figured I'd solicit opinions here and see what I get :D

just how does your friend owe you $500 dollars?

PersonOfInterest 07-17-2010 01:23 AM

It's a gun, they pay for themselves.

Edit: It's a CZ75

Thanks. That's so relevant to the query about the value of the gun

a luger with all that? Id pay 500 and still turn myself in for theft.....take the deal, say youll gladly forgive his debt....

predator20 07-17-2010 01:49 AM

I have the 29th Blue Book edition. There are about 100 different Luger variants listed. But the lowest price listed for several variants is $450 to $500 at 60%. I think you did okay.

Whenever I want to know the value of a gun I just look at what they are selling it for on gunbroker.

I loaned him $500 about a year ago to pay off a parking ticket so he could get his car out of hoc. Remember this is in Los Angeles, land of the "Screw you anyway you can" government. I just had a buddy get a ticket for 'rolling' through a stop sign in a lane in a parking lot of a city owned PARK, not even a real street.

He's taking a pay cut, his second job went away. And now he has to get his car out of hoc again, but I'm not loaning him any more money. At least he's honest about his debts. So he said I owned the contents of a locked box and this was inside. I also picked up some more pieces from him, things I don't really need but they were a good bargain (C&R long guns mostly) so that he could raise enough cash to get out of the most recent mess. More than I can say about a lot of of folks. I'm sure more than a few of you have loaned people money who don't pay it back.

I loaned another friend a pretty large sum for his start up business, but this was before I realized he was a MORON when it came to money. This guy could fuck up any business venture, sure he could talk a good game, but he did the most idiotic things which would always ruin the venture.

Again, I think only the older IMFDB members would have 'war stories' like this to tell. You younger guys, beware!

You happy now? Bet that wasn't as good as you hoped. :D

Usually they are rare ultra expensive pieces, which I was not sure this was, I don't think it is, or else the sellers are major douchebags who think way too highly of their pieces of crap ;)

BTW, the 'friends' who quoted me $250, were suddenly willing to take it off my hands for $300. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Spartan198 07-17-2010 05:25 AM

Sounds to me so far that you got a good deal.

Yournamehere 07-17-2010 06:02 AM

Lugers of all shapes and sizes, rare or not, go for about a grand ($1000) or higher from what I've seen. Granted it works and is in good condition, I would buy it. If you change your mind with it, it wouldn't be hard to resell, it's a freaking Luger.

It might be a good idea to research the markings and see if it's some special run though.

Nyles 07-17-2010 06:19 AM

Well, it all depends on the exact variant and condition (pictures would help), but generally speaking any matching original finish Luger is going to be worth more than $500. Is it in 7.65mm or 9mm? Is the barrel 95mm or 101mm, or longer? I'm by no means a Luger expert but for $500 I doubt you can go wrong. Even the mismatched dip-blued Russian captures seem to go for that.

And yeah, an ex girlfriend owes me about $1000 I'm never going to see. I don't even really care about the money, but the false promises to pay it back are really insulting to my intelligence.

Is Nyles going to have to choke a bitch? :p

Uh, no. Sorry, but I don't find domestic violence all that funny.

I don't either. In fact, I almost beat the shit out of a guy yesterday because he was yelling violent things at a woman. And he was on my lawn

Can't you shoot people for being on your lawn where you live? You should have done that.
