New orleans

just got activated to go down. whats the area like? Anyone from the area?

S&Wshooter 07-12-2010 05:51 PM

According to my parents, it was a pretty awesome place before Katrina. It's alright now. Sorta

k9870 07-12-2010 06:19 PM

I wonder how long it will take to adjust to the heat, i looked it up and its 1,530 miles away

S&Wshooter 07-12-2010 09:07 PM

Oh, that's right- you're a Yankee bastard. Well, you are going to want to eat a bullet after awhile because the coldest, dryest day of the year in New Orleans is like the hottest, most miserably humid day you have ever experienced in your life

MT2008 07-12-2010 10:04 PM

From Maine to N'waleans? Ouch. That's gonna be brutal. Sorry I can't be any more encouraging than that.

Lived in the N.O. area for 52 years, and you NEVER really get used to the heat. That is why they make air conditioners. :D

The area has never really recovered from Katrina. It is estimated that we lost 200,000 small businesses that have never returned. But there are still a large number of great restaurants, bars, and clubs. Both of our current phone books stacked only measure up about two thirds to one of our pre-Katrina phone books.

We have gotten used to the situation, but a couple of years back, my Sister and her Husband visited, and were shocked about what wasn't here any longer.

A video from Benny Brunch and the Bunch that may give you a little local flavor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOXVEcXftj4

If that happens, maybe they'll send you to Lake Charles, which is a pretty cool place

k9870 07-13-2010 02:56 AM

theyd send me around looking for people probably. Im going as a field observer to search for oil, if roles switch it will probably be for people.

My dad did search and rescue work in New Orleans during Katrina. He was paired with some crazy, full-auto-capable-AUG toting policeman. He told me that the water burned your skin when you touched it and there were dead bodies everywhere

k9870 07-13-2010 03:17 PM

I heard i may teamed up with locals, they know the area and the coast guard has almost no boats that operate in marshes. Also, we have water cooled engines and cant cruise in oil.

k9870 07-16-2010 05:15 PM

going to be in Houma. New orleans to process paperwork and stuff then cruising over there in a few days.

Its weird here, you go down a line of houses and some look untouched, then bam, ones there completely destroyed, looking like an isolated hit. Then theres bulldozed sections by the water where they plowed out the wrecks of flooded houses.

Only 80? Well, we are having an unusually cool summer

k9870 07-18-2010 03:11 AM

Hopefully it stays cooler. I hate heat and humidity. On the bright side when i get back good games start coming out on 360

I can't wait for New Vegas. I pre-ordered the special edition and paid off slightly less than half of it already

k9870 07-21-2010 09:58 PM
