Chicago handgun ban overturned

I'm surprised nobody posted anything on this sooner, but are y'all happy about the Supreme Court ruling in McDonald vs. Chicago? I hope it goes to show the more pessimistic amongst you that it is possible for us to win, even in FUBAR Blue states and cities. This is what I mean when I say that gun owners in America are on the offensive, not the defensive.

(Actually, I think the AWB's expiration in 2004 should have made this clear, but nobody back then seemed to care.)

Jcordell 07-05-2010 02:57 PM

Yes it's good news. Of course there are those (on other gun forums) who somehow see this as a defeat. I guess they don't understand that it takes time to reverse over seventy years of defeats and setbacks. But it looks like the courts are finally recognizing that the 2nd Amendment is actually part of the constitution. That's a huge step. If you had told me in 1999 (post Colombine) that this would be the situation in just eleven years I would have asked to see your Kool - Aid. It's a huge step forward. No the fight is still going and probably will for many decades to come. I expect setbacks, but once the Constitutional Litmus Test has to be applied to laws it changes the political dynamic. It's a good start.

I remember how in 2004, only a few months before the AWB expired, there were still people who insisted that somehow, it was going to get renewed at the last second.

Markost 07-05-2010 03:45 PM

A few newspapers reported it down here:

http://www.clarin.com/mundo/estados_...289171154.html

Obviously, all the media is pro-gun control.

Jcordell 07-05-2010 10:27 PM

I was living in Upper New York State in the late 90's. I thought I was going to go bonkers from the non-stop anti-gun bias that the media was blasting. Far more intense than it is here in Idaho. And I lost my hearing after Colombine. God damn.

P.S. I'm being rhetorical when I say I lost my hearing. LOL

Swordfish941 07-05-2010 10:30 PM

Looks like we can finally break out the champagne.

Excalibur 07-06-2010 02:19 AM

I can go into Chicago with my gun now.

Rockwolf66 07-06-2010 04:24 AM

Not so fast Excaliber. The Chicago coruption machine has already shoved through a local ordinance banning Gunshops in Chicago and stateing that one cannot have a firearm outside ones home(garages do not count as part of ones home or ones vehicle for that matter).

Personally I would love to see a supreme court justice send an injuntion against this new ordinace.

Excalibur 07-06-2010 02:18 PM

That's why I still love the state I live in.

Yeah, so basically they're technically legal, but doing just about anything with them is still a crime.

It's crap like this that makes me believe the CIA's prediction of the next American revolution occurring by 2014.

Yournamehere 07-06-2010 07:35 PM

I heard about the ordinance that Rockwolf mentioned, but I didn't know there was a Supreme Court Case in the works. Interesting and powerful stuff, to say the least.

ManiacallyChallenged 07-13-2010 09:08 PM

I don't live in Chicago!
:)

Excalibur 07-14-2010 02:36 AM

Neither do I, but I live half an hour away from the city and I have relatives there.

ManiacallyChallenged 07-15-2010 08:52 PM

I don't even live near Chicago!
Hooray!

Spartan198 07-16-2010 10:01 AM

Me. neither. Good thing I live in California! :)

Erm, wait a minute... :(

To remedy this, I recommend you move to somewhere badass, like Texas

Jcordell 07-16-2010 03:21 PM

Or Idaho. Very gun friendly up here in Idaho. Texas has nothing over Idaho when it comes to being gun friendly. :p

But it's Idaho. Nothin' but potatoes and small towns :D

Jcordell 07-16-2010 04:45 PM

Yes, but our egos are smaller also so people like us better. :p

We have better Mexican food

MoviePropMaster2008 07-16-2010 06:27 PM

All jokes aside, telling folks to MOVE is idiotic. Like that's a likely scenario, especially when our job is in a place like California.

For those of you who already live in Gun friendly states. Good for you. They're not gun friendly BECAUSE OF YOU. You guys just happen to live there. It's pure happenstance.

I despise the losers who RAN AWAY from a formally great state like California, versus stayed to fight. For those of you who already live elsewhere. You are lucky. But there are reasons so many of use still live in Kalifornistan.

There are a bunch of lawsuits ready to go as a result of the SC rulings against California's laws. Woo Hoo. At least I'm here to see the fight.

:D

Edit: It's ironic. Even though we have some of the most draconian laws in the nation, Californians STILL have tons more guns than any individual resident and more collectively than all the other states individually (except perhaps for Texas). EVERY Californian I know has at least 5-12 guns. I know dozens of Californians who have really high end collections with high priced firearms. I always hear from guys in South Dakota as to how free they are, but they have a pitiful gun collection. What's up with that? Before I even started doing any sort of movie work, I had at least 200 guns personally.

Doesn't mean we can't crow about it. Californians love to tell us how we live in backwards states and just don't have enough of the pretty things. So when we get a chance to engage in turnabout....

I know many former Californians who now live in Idaho. Many of them are okay though there are a few who are busy trying to make things "better" in the Californian way. Wish they would have stayed.

And all kidding and ribbing aside I hope you guys win. Personally I would love to see jerks like Feinstein and Boxer get kicked in the teeth.Nothing would make me happier than to see SF and LA get told that they are violating the Constitution.
:D

I have twenty-five. I just counted. Some of my best pieces are ones I recently picked up in the past couple years. Perhaps the economy has caused some folks to part with their collections? I wonder if some of the hard to find specimens I now own used to be owned by Californians? No denying that California has much within it's borders. I try not to be too much of a hypocrite. After all I do like movies and if that isn't one of the major products of California I don't know what is.

Yes, I've picked up 62 pieces recently, mostly liquidated collections. I just picked up a WW1 Luger because the guy was broke. Unfortunate for him, but that's life. Yes, it's ridiculous to move out of California and attempt to get a job in the movie industry in .... Wyoming or whatever. ;) Not so much on THIS forum, but a lot of the other gun forums have guys saying for everyone to move OUT. That's easy to say if I (a) didn't have a region specific JOB here and (b) didn't already own the house I live in and (c) have elderly relatives I have to look in on or care for who live close by. A lot of guys on those other forums just don't think before they post.

Query: Why did you BOLD your entire quote?

Good lord. How many now, blank converted and live fire?

I have 16 which isn't all that much, but I only started buying guns 2 years ago.

I was playing around.

I live in Indiana, and Indiana is a red state (much to my mom's chargin'). So they are apathetic to gun laws.

But I live at the border of Indiana and Illinois so I have a lot relatives in Chicago and I have to go visit them all the time. I can't take my gun anywhere in Chicago, but at least I am safe in Indiana.
