Article on the Infuriating Pop Culture and the fact that so many people like crap

Read a funny article about Infuriating Pop Culture CRAP. The film commentary is right on. I don't know much about the music quotes, but I share his dislike of reality TV shows.

S&Wshooter 06-01-2010 05:44 PM

This is why I don't watch TV (despite the fact that I work for a TV ratings Co. and it's pretty much my job), listen to newer music or watch new movies.

MT2008 06-01-2010 11:12 PM

There's a lot of stuff I hate about modern pop culture (I agree with MPM about reality shows), but I still get tired of hearing constantly about how each decade is worse than the last. I'm young, but I am old enough to remember how much people bitched about pop culture in the 1990s (when I was a teenager). Nowadays, I often meet teenagers who idolize the 1990s because of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, while forgetting about the Backstreet Boys.

Dude, we've already established that most of what you like was made in the 1980s. I can't think of any other pop culture decade that's aged as badly as the 80s. You gotta stop listening to what middle-aged "Rocky" fans tell you. If you ask those dumbfucks, Survivor and Kenny Loggins represent the pinnacle of American music (no kidding, either...I've met a bunch of those people).

Kenny Loggins sucks and I don't really care for Rocky. As a matter of fact, I have never even met anyone who likes Rocky that much.

S&Wshooter 06-02-2010 12:19 AM

You know what really gets under my skin? Hipsters.

[curmudgeon] Those damn kids and their music! (shakes fist; continues watching 60 minutes and eating beets) [/curmudgeon]

"Rocky" is good. I just hate people who act like it's the greatest movie ever. It's good for what it is, no more.

Likewise, I hate when people act as though Survivor is the most profound band ever.

They're almost as bad as Rush *shudder*

Bugabear 06-02-2010 03:04 AM

I think the singer from Rush was voted one of the worst dressers in all of music history. And I think I saw him buying guitar strings at a store the other day. Funny you mentioned it.

He seemed like a nice guy. And he was an intelligent conversationalist (at least the one time I met him) I've run into music celebs who were either dumb as a box of rocks or on drugs. On another note, I love how many event venues have a "No Courtney Love" clause in their insurance! LOL

Jcordell 06-03-2010 01:48 AM

As you get older you're supposed to hate current pop culture. I liked the first Rocky by the way. Saw it at the theater in 1977. Didn't care for the others.

I'd rather get shot in the arm with a nailgun than listen to those guys

ManiacallyChallenged 06-07-2010 05:47 PM

Ke$ha!!!!!
OK, let's be honest with ourselves. When I heard the name Ke$ha for the first time, I assumed she would be a black rapper. Not trying to be racist, but $ in your name usually means you're black.

Surprise! She's just another Californian!

Ugh. My bus driver used to play her and Lady Gaga during my ride to and from school. I drowned it out with stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f39nP...eature=related

What about Iggy Pop? Do you guys think he sucks?

Yes. Till Lindemann could beat the shit out of Iggy

Swordfish941 06-07-2010 06:12 PM

What about John Lennon? Do you think he's the "king of the hippies"(I now want to beat the little wads of shit out of Cartman)?

I hate that guy. If I'm going to lisen to British music, it's going to be The Clash (who hated John Lennon too) or Elton John (who'd kill AIDS with a broken beer bottle if AIDS were a person)

Swordfish941 06-07-2010 06:15 PM

You can't possibly hate Ronnie James Dio. He did the devil's horns thing with his hand.

Seemed like a cool dude, but I don't like his music.

Does being born in '93 make me a member of Gen X?

I listen to stuff like Fanky Valli and early Elvis, but I mainly listen to Metal

You're only 17? Jeez. :rolleyes:You're not even old enough to buy a long gun on your own. How do you acquire such a preference for S&W handguns?

I've been given S&W's before (inheritence), and I know people who let me shoot theirs. My 4506 is officially my father's, but he doesn't even really like it
