Picked this up this afternoon.

A shotgun next to Fallout 3. Nice but it'd look better set next to a zombie movie or Left 4 Dead

Nice! Good choice! I remember when I was thinking about the Express Tactical, though I went with the Mossberg 500 Mariner instead (mostly just because it was too pretty to pass up). 870's a great gun. Have fun with it.

Would putting on a folding stock/ pistol grip/ forward pistol grip change the legal status of my 870?

Some states might have different laws about it. But most of the time as long as the barrel is a min 18", I don't think it matters.

Exactly. Unless you cut down the barrel yourself, there's nothing wrong with it. Most standard factory models of the 870 and Mossberg 500 are set up to be converted to pistol-grip versions out of the box. Can't imagine they'd do that if it were illegal.

Well that's not the problem. If a state says you can't have a pistol grip, you can't have one, even if you can convert it yourself.

Unless you get a class 3, it is illegal to convert something to full auto.

Hey AdAstra2009, any issues with your 870?

I haven't had mine to long but it has surprisingly been jamming on me quite frequently. The spent shell sometimes doesn't want to eject and I have to remove the barrel and pry it out. I don't know much about guns yet, but I have had several buddies try it out and the same thing happens to them. Anyone else had this happen recently while using an 870? Mine is specifically the Express Super Magnum Synthetic. I have made no mods yet.

What brand / type of shells are you using in it?

Nothing crazy. Just the stuff you pick up at Walmart really. Winchester and Federal. I don't see a difference between the two. They both jam.

Nope, but that's only because I haven't had time to take it to the range yet.

Do you plan to do anything to it? Customize it a little?

I just picked up my 2nd 870 about a week ago. I haven't had any problems with either of mine. Both of mine are Police Magnums.

If it's having trouble extracting the spent shell. Check the extractor claw at the front of the bolt (the hook looking thing) :)

Most of the time whenever I hear any problems with 870s its usually the "Express" line.

Yeah, if it's happening with multiple brands of ammo it's likely a problem with the gun. Check the extractor, give it a good cleaning. Take a look at the chamber as well, make sure there's no dirt or burrs in there that the shells might be getting hung up on. Failing that take it to a good gunshop or a smith and see what they have to say.

If you were talking to me, I do plan on replacing the 28" barrel with an 18" or 20" and a 2 or 3 shot mag extension. That's really all I have thought about for the shotgun at this time. I would like to retain the longer barrel for longer distances though I think.
We have inspected the extractor claw and it looks to be fine. As tight as these shells are, I don't think it's that. It's almost like an issue with the barrel, except it's not every time. I can't remember if it gets worse as I put more rounds through it. IIRC, it didn't make a difference whether it was 20th or the 80th round. It should still be under warranty with the factory, I might just try that route.

I wouldn't be surprised if the police line is built to better specs.

:eek: That is BA for sure! I will be getting an shell holder, sling, and a collapsable stock to match my AR-15. Anything else that I do to my shotgun would come long after I am done with my AR mods. (assuming I can get the 870 jamming figured out of course)

I want wilson to do mine over. I want the traclock sights, parkerizing (green) the synthetic stock with surefire forend, side saddle holding extra rounds, i ahve a slip on shell holder for the stock and a recoil pad already. A mag extension of +2 also then i'll get a sling.

Sounds like you'll have an awesome shotgun when your are finished.

I would, 20 inch, 6+1, can use slugs or buck, light and extra ammo already handy, regular stock (i hate PGs on shotguns) and the recoil pad for fast firing. Right now the thing looks like this:
