My Colt AR Builds To Date/ Post Your Tac-Rifles!
I've hit another milestone with regard to my two rifle builds and I've been sharing them across the net, so I figure now would be a good time to post them here too.
http://i.imgur.com/SpxtwhF.jpg This is my early 2000s/Invasion of Iraq M4A1 Carbine build. While not "retro" by arfcom standards, it's definitely a dated build. It's a boring ass M4A1 build with a SOCOM barrel, Knights Armament RAS and N1 CAR Stock, with a Matech Rear Sight, a Gen 2 "Fat Body" Surefire M951 with SW02 Tailcap, and an Aimpoint Comp M2/M68 CCO. I think people take this setup for granted, as it is really the genesis of the high tech AR world we know and love today. It's the first generation of contemporary durable electronic optics and lights, which has also seen significant action in the GWOT. Everyone is really into rifles that are pre-red dot, but this is the father of all we know as "tacticool" with a legitimate service record to boot. It helps that videogames meme'd this rifle really hard too. The only part I'm missing for the build is the Side Sling Swivel that mounts under the Front Sight Base. The worst part is that I have the one from the upper, but the rollpins are stuck in really hard and I can't tap them out to install it. http://i.imgur.com/KDKTCw6.jpg And this is my long awaited SBR build. I got my Form 1 for my first LE6920SOCOM back on February 14th this year, so I basically got married to it on Valentines Day, how cute. It's loosely inspired by the MK18 Mod 1/Block II Build, but I've done some things that are not to that spec. For the general upper, the MK18 RIS II is Black and not FDE, and the barrel is a SOCOM I profile and not a standard Government profile. For rail accessories, it has Troy Folding Battlesights, HK Front and Standard Rear, a Gear Sector QD Swivel Mount to go with the Noveske QD End Plate, Knights Armament Rail Covers, and a Tango Down QD Vertical Foregrip. The electronics are an Aimpoint Comp M4s with the stock QRP2 Mount, and a Surefire X300UB. I'm really liking the light for a carbine, very simple setup and very bright. If my Form 4s ever come back I will also be getting a QD suppressor for it for double stamp cred. And hey, why don't we just have a good old fashioned post your rifles thread? Lets see what everyone else has in the tacticool department. |
Looks good though m4 carbine clone could use an inventory number scribbled on the buttstock and a an/peq2. I'll post something of mine once I take some better pics, they'd look terrible next to your studio setup.

Can't wait to see everyone else's stuff. |
My AR is basically a typical (kind of, it's left handed) 2007-2008 M4gery, complete with quadrail, cheap foregrip, and Blackhawk pistol grip. Am I tactical enough? Can I oper8 now?

I'll send a photo of mine later on. I'm waiting on a new upper to change it up. right now it's still a S&W M&P Sport, the first gen version at its core. But now I have changed pretty much everything. Magpul SL pistol grip, SL handguard, BCM gunfighter stock, has an Inforce WML, a Holosun red dot. A BCM H Carbine buffer.
I'm planning to build my first AR pistol. Look at at 10.5 to 12.5 in barrel, flat top of course, and thinking about the SB Tactical PDW brace |

I have seen set up like this so it's not completely inaccurate of the period you're trying to emulate. But despite the light potentially messing with the balance, you can just get a smaller light, mount it to the right and add a pressure switch for it. Don't forget excessive tape on it.

M951s are cool though in that you can get LED drop ins for them to give them competitive brightness even by today's standards. That one in the pic as a Malkoff M61 which gives the light 325 lumens for 1.5 hours. Granted that's half as efficient as an M300 Scout which does about that with one battery instead of two, but it puts out the lumen count which is nice. I may just put the old P60 lamp back in there just to be true to the times, though. |
I don't have a fancy AR to post, but I always wanted an AR6721 (or similar 16" HB carbine) configured like the one on the box art of Ghost Recon: Island Thunder.

So you want the carrying handle still attached with an ACOG on it? I think the reason why that set up existed is because of the period it was in with flat top ARs only just starting to become the norm and accessories for ARs account for the carrying handle.

I toyed with getting an ACOG TA01NSN, but even as the cheaper alternative to the TA31RCO, it's still expensive, even on eBay. |
They did this in the 2003 SWAT movie. Looking back, I wondered why? I think nowadays, if you want a sights to close range alongside a long range scope, you can doctor a red dot on top of an ACOG or scope or offset sights.

The configuration is a bit dated today with all the multi-magnification, piggyback, and offset options, but like fixed carry handles and the old triangular A1 handguards, it still has its charms. |

According to the official Trijicon history page, ACOGs were officially adopted by the US Special Forces in 1995, the USMC in 2004, and the US army in 2007. Apparently the first people to use them were GSG9 who started fitting them to SG550s in 1993. |
So if ACOG didn't have doctor red dot mounts until 2007, does that mean the doctor mounts we saw in The Lone Survivor is anachronistic?

Alright guys, this is what my current go to rifle looks like. It's a Smith & Wesson M&P 15. One of the early ones when they first came out but I've since put a bunch of other stuff on it.

When I got this, I noticed it was so far off zero that my iron sights hit better at 50 yards. There's the mindset that you should spend as much money as you've spent on your rifle for an optic because it's part of the tools that's meant to protect your life and if you have a budget one, it'll fail more often than the expensive ones like Aimpoint. So in the future, I'll be investing in the more expensive options. |
I want to make one of those franken-CARs from Black Hawk Down or Blood Diamond, probably won't. Anyone that knows ARs want to lay out what parts I'd need?

IWI Tavor w/Aimpoint CompM4s, TLR-1 HL, and Surefire 60 rounder. |
I've just finished customizing my Scorpion EVO. New charging handle, trigger and selector switch
|
I need to get a picture of my PTR91 FR.
Hopefully the local gunsmith gets off his fat ass and gets me the parts I paid him to order for me off HKparts back in January. Thankfully since then a new gunshop has opened up and they are trying to get me the parts to build a PSA KS-47 pistol. I got the lower and now I need an upper. |

Since this is an AR-15 question, I'll just tack it onto this thread instead of creating a new one.
Can anyone ID this muzzle device? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbeobjiig.jpg The closest approximate match I've found is the PWS FSC556, but it doesn't totally match as the ports in the above pic seem to be square while the ones on the PWS are ... whatever you'd call that shape. |
So my budget AR pistol build is coming along nicely. So far, I've spent about 450ish on it.
Right now, it's a standard carbine length gas with a 10.5 in barrel. Once I've tested it a few times, it's going to be my trunk gun that I take for long trips across town, to work, etc and only to be taken out when SHTF |

You...seriously with that comment? We suddenly turned into Facebook here, dude?
So unless I go to an actual bad part of town where I know the moment I leave it, crackheads will immediately swarm me...to steal the radio, my rims and my dash cam...you think because I leave an expensive piece of equipment in my car without considering to secure it better like a lot of people do, that it'll get instantly stolen by a random junkie who 1. doesn't know I have something expensive in it, and 2. I live/work in a neighborhood that actually is so shitty, that this happens and enough to warrant your comment that's not even a full on sentence...and worse, you took my line and redid it in an attempt to make me sound stupid... |
Dude we all know you live in a crackhouse c'mon ;^)
|
I need to get a better stock for my AR, but I'm basically torn between making my current rifle (left handed with proprietary parts, etc) as comfy as possible or saving up, building a good right handed rifle (not a retro like I want to do, I honestly will probably never make one), and making it PERFECT. I don't really NEED the rifle to be left handed, since I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds through a stock Colt AR no problems, and I'd like to be able to do whatever I want rather than being constrained to whatever the leftie receiver on the one I have can do

Back on topic, brothers.
Just finished the basic look of my budget pistol build. I'll send a pic when I have it the way I want it to be. So far, I've spent 450 on it. |
