how to upload a movie

well, my class made a movie and i want to post it up online. how do i do this?

Alcatrazz 08-27-2009 08:09 PM

Youtube, of course.

k9870 08-27-2009 08:51 PM

im guessing in 3 parts since its 32 min?

k9870 08-27-2009 11:11 PM

it says failed to convert to video file or something like that.

Vangelis 08-28-2009 06:56 AM

If you want longer videos than Youtube, you can try Viddler.

http://www.viddler.com/

As for your error message: what were you trying to upload, in terms of video format, file size and length?

k9870 08-29-2009 05:20 AM

um, my videos 517 mb, more than the 500 limit on viddler, anywhere else, also, how do you upload in smaller parts to youtube since there s a 10min limit?

Vangelis 08-29-2009 05:29 AM

Right, a 37 minute video probably shouldn't be that big anyway [I've uploaded 50-minute videos to Viddler before]; what's the video resolution and bitrate [both will be listed in the file's properties], and do you have Windows Movie Maker on your PC?

k9870 08-29-2009 05:07 PM

I dont have any editing program, its 2000kbps and 29 fps. im trying to send my sister a way to watch the video, yahoo only allows a 10mb attachment, so i need to put it on youtube or something.

k9870 08-29-2009 05:10 PM

Ill post the link here when done too....and i just found out i do have movie maker, just no idea how to use it.

Vangelis 08-29-2009 11:17 PM

Ok, easy course in editing in Movie Maker; I have the Vista version, but it shouldn't be that different for you if you don't.

1. Open it up and click 'Import Media.' Find your movie file, select it and click 'import.' It should appear as a thumbnail in the work area.

2. Drag it to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

3. To divide it up, click a point on the timeline, then click the 'split' button. This will split the movie at that point. Youtube seems to accept videos with lengths up to 11 minutes, but it's best to aim for ten or less.

4. Select and delete the part you don't currently want. Go to File > Publish Movie. Click though the screens that show up, the defaults are usually ok, though you might want to give it your own filename. Wait for a while while it publishes the movie.

5. Once it's done, hit undo a couple of times until you have the part of the movie you deleted before back. Delete the other part instead, then repeat what you did above.

If you're sizing it for Youtube, you're going to need to split it into four parts and publish each section seperately. It'll take a while, but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Got it, be up soon.,

k9870 08-30-2009 12:20 AM

um, got this:

Failed (please export your movie in .WMV format)

MT2008 08-30-2009 12:25 AM

You can also post it to a file-sharing site like Rapidshare or Megaupload, but that would mean we'd all have to download it to our HDs and watch it, instead of just streaming it.

Personally, I can never get YouTube to upload my stuff. I once tried to post a skit for an Arabic class on YouTube, and it kept giving me errors, and even when it successfully uploaded, there were screwy things about the video quality. I had the same problem when I tried to upload a piece of a movie for my thesis presentation. I'm not sure what I keep doing wrong.

Hm. When did you get that?

k9870 08-30-2009 12:42 AM

fom youtube, it explained that it was saved as a windows movie maker file, and needs to be a different file. problem is, movie makers not letting me save as anything else.

Ah. You're trying to export the wrong file; the files you create by saving in Movie Maker are 'project' files that just save what you've done to a particular movie. You want the movie files you create by using 'Publish.'

k9870 08-30-2009 12:58 AM

i did publish and it still saves as that file, and it wont let me choose what to publish as

MT2008 08-30-2009 01:00 AM

Maybe you can try a format conversion tool. I'm sure those must exist for video files (I have one that lets me save my AVIs as MP4s so I can put them on my iPod).

Your publish screen looks like that, right? What does it say where mine says 'Windows Media Video WMV' there?

k9870 08-30-2009 01:13 AM

same thing

Hm. Then it should be putting them in the 'Videos' folder. What's in there, just a bunch of .MSWMM files?

k9870 08-30-2009 01:42 AM

I noticed the problem, its saving things to two folders one clled "video" one called "videos" it looks like i got what i need, now just to upload it, which may take a while.

k9870 08-30-2009 07:32 AM

All uploaded but first vid got "This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by WMG. The audio has been disabled. "

Hm. There's copyright protection embedded in Youtube that checks to make sure copyrighted content isn't re-uploaded to their servers, did you have music or movie audio / video clips in your video at all?

k9870 08-30-2009 01:20 PM

Music clips. We had music in all sections though, only pat 1 was blocked.

k9870 08-30-2009 02:30 PM

Also, the other 3 say successfully uploaded but when i try to play it says "unable to connect to server"

I tried viddler but it went into the "cannot display webpage" halfway through upload.

Well, show me the links to the Youtube videos, I'll see if it's viewable. With Viddler, try using the other uploader, there's a 'simple' and 'batch' one.

Yeah, I can see them all and they work, though like you said, the first has no audio.

Gunmaster45 09-01-2009 04:49 AM

Google Video?

GV hasn't accepted new uploads for a couple of months, I think they're trying to phase it out since running it alongside Youtube when Google owns both doesn't make much sense.
