I went over to Carter Country to get the 638 but found that I did not like the shrouded hammer as much as I thought I would. Almost bought a Russian made Makarov in .380 instead. Do you plan on getting a carry permit? Or do you already have one. If it's going to be just a range gun. I would go for larger full size 9mm (much easier to shoot). S&W autos go for cheap, same with Beretta's. I'm really liking my SIG P226 I just purchased but even the beaters aren't all that cheap.

I don't have any experience with a PF9, so can't help you there.
