To me, fighting in New York is the epitome of stupid. To do so is to surrender any artilery, air support, and armor advantage. Artillery and aircraft are useless with the tall buildings and helecopters are vulnerable to anti-tank-rockets and machine guns, since the buildings get in the way and limit manuvability. APCs will be better than tanks, since the autocannon of an APC has a higher elevation than a tank's main gun, and any advantage the tank has in the armor department is negated (again) by anti-tank teams six stories up shooting at the thin top armor.

Then throw in, say, 12,000 cops (1/3 the NYPD), thousands of soldiers, and the ability for defenders to move undetected though the miles of subway tunnels, ellectric and phone corridors by whatever utilites works stay behind and the result will be worse than Stalingrad, all for a city of no real value. Yes, it has a port. By the time you can use it, all the streets will be rubble-filled and covered by snipers.

One last thing: How did the Russians whip up another invation force? The first one was EMP'd back to the Stone Age, left to deal with a whole bunch of angry Americans.

So is fighting in the center of London or Paris...but Call of Duty is all about the theatrics of a war, not about the practicality of a military strategy. As for the Russians, they developed a new military tool in the form of the "constant respawn", something the Americans apparently have trouble with in the COD-verse :)

I thought the 1126 was an IFV?

We shall drown them in our bottomless wells of manpower! Unless the other team captures our flag four times.

I was just watching that video and the reviewer referred to himself as "Evil Tim". Don't we have an Evil Tim on here? Are they the same guy or are they just 2 completely unrelated guys named Tim who happen to be Evil?

Mandolin1 05-31-2011 01:30 AM

Yes, it's the same Evil Tim. He helped do the IMFDB page for the game.

I guessed so already, but I felt the need to confirm

I'm vaguely familiar with it, yes. :D

From what I can gather, while ICV usually stands for "Infantry Combat Vehicle" and means IFV, in the specific case of the M1126 it means "Infantry Carrier Vehicle" which means APC. It doesn't really have the armour or armament to go IFV'ing.

Spartan198 06-01-2011 02:43 AM

IFV stands for Infantry Fighting Vehicle. An Infantry Combat Vehicle is the same thing, obviously, just by a different name.

Yeah, I know that. The thing is, the M1126 is called an ICV but in this specific case it stands for Infantry Carrier Vehicle, not Infantry Combat Vehicle. It's marketing-speak for APC.
