Yet another passage:

Greg woke up on the floor with a throbbing pain in his head. It wasn’t from migraines. Those felt like tremors. He shifted his gaze up to the kitchen table, where Katie was finishing up the rest of her chips. He put one hand on the countertop and pulled himself up. He then leaned on the table and looked at Katie.

“What happened?” he asked, rubbing the back of his head.

“You and Roc got into a brawl and I ended it with this.” She said, holding up her Walther.

“Wait a minute, you clubbed me with your gun?”

“I clubbed the both of you. If you had gone on any longer, this place would look like Britain after the Blitz.”

Greg walked over to the refrigerator, took an ice pack out from the freezer, and rubbed it against the back of his head. He then put on a pot of coffee and placed a few biscuits on a plate.

“What’s that for?” Katie asked.

“It’s tea time.” He replied.

“You’re not English.”

“No, but my mum’s parents were. So I’m a little bit English.”

He sat down next to her and took a bite out of a biscuit.

you do know unlike the movies you dont just get up and at them from a knocout, the cause brain and skull damage and are extremely dangerous. Maybe tranqing? a good double taze and shell tells them to stop?

Doesn't tranqing take awhile?

k9870 05-07-2011 10:15 PM

its not instant but its quick, few seconds. Tasing would be cool too.

About 10 minutes at least.

Tasing doesn't cause loss of consciousness.

Tasing is an alternative i was suggesting it ends the fight, maybe giving them a few jolts when they dont shut up. Tranquing can be quick or slow, depends what you use. Odds are she wouldnt have it anyway. Chloroform is fast though, seconds. Ether too. Either way, metal to skull is called DEADLY FORCE by pretty much every pd in the country.

Tranquilizing is something that requires the perfect dosage amoung to work. Too much, and you could kill someone. Too little, and it'll take too long to work, or not work at all.

That's why at the zoo the animal control tranq. guns have the proper dosage needed to take down a lion or tiger if it escapes, but if you shot someone with it by accident, you'd likely stop their heart.

Now try to enjoy that scene from Old School when you realize he'd have died in that pool. (If you hate Will Ferrell then that works even better)

If we can magically replace Will Ferrel with George Lopez or Tyler Perry, then I would be laughing my ass off.

Another passage:

He sat down next to her and took a bite out of a biscuit. The coffee was done and he poured himself a mug. He sat back down and took a sip. The caffeine revived his senses and he could now think more clearly.

“Have you heard about Somalia? Another conflict is going on.” He said to Katie, who was nibbling on a biscuit.

“Greg, there has been a conflict in Somalia for twenty eight years now.”

“Yes, but this one is different. The government is fighting against Al-Shabaab, not some local warlord’s militia. These boys mean business, Kate. They’ve taken over most of southern Somalia, including the old capital.”

“Al-Shabaab?”

“It’s an Islamic insurgency group that has ties to Al-Queda, or what’s left of Al-Queda. You know the government would pay us to fight for them.”

“Greg, you’re a textbook workaholic. Whenever we’re done with one job, you somehow manage to get another and we have to pack our things up just when we have finished unpacking. Please, just give us two months off before you find another job for us.”

“Okay. I didn’t know that you felt that way. Do you want to know what I feel?”

“Go ahead. Shoot.”

“When you have had experienced war, you start to love the feeling you get from it. I was soldier back in the bush. Here back in civilization, I’m just like everyone else. When I was the LRA’s captive, something inside me changed. I don’t know what, but I’ve never felt like myself ever since. I have my personality and my love of literature and music and life, but I don’t feel the same.”

“I heard that war does that to some people.”

“Well, you only know a little bit of war. I’ve trained you how to use a gun and knife, but compared to my training for Recces, yours was just a walk in the park. Mine was a trip to hell and back.”

“You’re exaggerating a bit, aren’t you?”

“No, I’m not. I was the runt of the litter of the ones that succeeded training. They were six feet or taller and weighted around two hundred pounds. I was only five foot seven and weighted only a hundred and fifty-five pounds.”

“How the hell did you even pass?” Katie asked, getting more interested in his story.

“My staff sergeant thought that I made up my lack of physically with my other skills. He said that I was a brilliant strategist, one of the best he had ever seen. He also said I was an expert marksman. During weapons training, all of the rounds I fired hit the middle of the target in a small cluster.”

k9870 05-09-2011 01:11 AM

What are Recces equivalant to as a u.s. force?

They are the South African equvilant to the U.S. Special Forces.

Swordfish941 05-14-2011 09:52 PM

I have some ideas for weapons that the rest of the security force carries. A majority of the guards carry 6.8mm M4 Carbines fitted with Magpul CTR stocks, M68 Aimpoint Scopes, and Surefire M900A light/fore grips. They also carry FN SCARs fitted with Eotech sights and foregrips. The standard sidearm of the Security force is a Heckler & Koch USP chambered in 9x19mm (Greg briefly uses one when the receiver of R5 is broken). I need a name of the security force, do you guys have any?

k9870 05-14-2011 10:08 PM

T.E.A.M. (tactically epic and manly).

Nah Just kidding, cant think of anything cool weapon choices though. Get a sniper with a l129 and a gpmg gunner and its good to go.

Swordfish941 07-27-2011 08:08 PM

It's been a whole month since I've wrote in the book. I've decided to switch from Greg's to Ares' point of view. I'll develop his character more. "Ares" is actually call sign (just like Lee Adama from Battlestar Galactica. Do you guys have any suggestions for the rest of the merc's callsigns?

Evil Tim 07-28-2011 01:29 AM

Have all their callsigns be a pattern, like other Greek Gods, zodiac signs, animals, etc?

Maybe you could give each merc a callsign based on the mythological god that best reflects their behavior/personality?

You want me to come up with ideas AND do research for you?

You know what, I did take several semesters of Mythology. PM me a list of the mercs and their base personality traits

S&Wshooter 07-28-2011 02:20 AM

This will take a little while since I am busy right this minute.

Swordfish941 07-31-2011 03:06 AM

Here is a passage that I just finished:

“So you were special.”

“Essentially yes. After basic training, I did a few peacekeeping missions in Kenya and Ethiopia. Then I got send to Uganda to deal with the LRA.”

“What the hell is the LRA?”

The two of them looked towards the spare bedroom door and found Rocco leaning against it. He was in a dirty T-shirt with a pair of Khaki shorts. His pistol was shoved into the front of his pants.

Greg took another sip of his coffee and addressed Rocco. “Roc, the LRA is the Lord’s Resistance Army. They’re basically a sectarian military group based upon apocalyptic Christianity.”

“Great, a bunch of Bible-thumping anarchists.” Rocco muttered as he poured himself of a cup of coffee. “Can pick a better coffee brand? What is this?”

“I don’t know. Just coffee. Anyway Roc, why the hell did you put salvia in the pipe?”

“Revenge”

“Revenge for what?”

“For making me crawl into the heart of the ship where it’s hotter than hell just to check on the goddamn engine.”

Greg inhaled deeply through his nose and gave Rocco an annoyed look. “Look, I’ve been more than generous to you. When we first met, you tried to mug me and I broke your hand trying to get the gun out of it. I bought you a drink to apologize and said you were laid off from a job as a car mechanic. I gave you a job fixing the engine and going out on jobs with us. I’ve saved you twice during an attack from Somali pirates and I begrudgingly let you stay at my flat until you find yourself a new home. And you this is how you thank me?”

“You know, Greg’s got a point.” Katie said, finishing off her chips. “He’s been like the Good Samaritan.”

You know what? Giving callsigns will probably be confusing to the reader

k9870 08-01-2011 01:19 AM

Nah you only use callsighns in combat on radio and such, and theres only a few mercs i say go for it.

Swordfish941 08-07-2011 02:02 AM

I've decided to give Ares a shotgun along with his SAW and handguns. It'll be a Remington 870 fitted with the following attachments:

Blackhawk Specops shotgun stock
http://www.blackhawk.com:80//Catalog...1158-IMG1.jpeg

Muzzlebreak
http://www.tacticalshotgunaccessorie...es/MS93356.jpg

Surefire 618 weaponlight
http://www.surefire.com/surefire/con...arge_24553.png

What do you think?

S&Wshooter 08-07-2011 02:06 AM

Will he be able to carry all that?

The shotgun is in a attached to his backpack. He keeps spare shells in an shell holder attached to his vest. He carries the SAW ammunition pouch on another side of his pack. The pistols are in a shoulder holster (for the Desert Eagle) and a belt holster (for the Mk. 23). Got a problem with that?

k9870 08-07-2011 02:22 AM

The blackhawk stock is supposed to suck, look into a speedfeed.

Mandolin1 08-07-2011 03:08 AM

A SAW (22lb loaded) , Desert Eagle (3-4 pounds loaded), Mk. 23 (3-5 lbs, depending on atachments), shotgun (7-10, depend on acesories). 35-41lb in weapons alone is stupid. No one carries two giant handguns, one is enough, give him a Glock 19 or something for backup. Ditch the Desert Eagle completly, it's a huge, clunky peice of junk with low magazine capacity and overly powerfull, rare, and expensive ammo. Plus, the .357 and .44 model tend to jam du to the rimmed rounds. The Mk. 23 is a bit large, but it's a high-capacity pistol that shoots a well-respected round. Why the shotgun? Is a machine gun not enough? Shotgun ammo is bulky and as the SAW gunner, he need s to be carrying as much belted 5.56 as he can, not worrying about trying to keep 4 kinds of ammo straight.

k9870 08-07-2011 03:15 AM

Yeah have him own all those guns but only carry into battle what he needs keeping the others on the boat.

Swordfish941 08-07-2011 04:45 AM

You both have very good points. I'll get rid of the shotgun and have a scene where Greg advises him not to take the shotgun since he's already "carrying a machine gun, a .45, and a hand held Howitzer". I've also decided to ditch the mining camp and decided to have them be a part of a mercenary force used by the Somalian government to retake Mogadishu. And I've decided a new actor for Will the Doctor: Sean Maher (Simon Tam on Firefly).

Swordfish941 09-24-2011 04:54 AM

I have an alternative actor for Pieter Van Zyl: Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows on Prison Break).

What do you guys think?

Swordfish941 09-26-2011 02:12 AM

Guys, I'm having a bad case of writer's block. I don't know what to write after Katie's dialogue? Any suggestions?
