clip/mag doesnt bother me, I use the correct term for whatever im using but if somebody asks me where i left my clip, i know what there talking about. Im not going to chew them out for not saying mag.

I'd venture to guess that it has to do with the en bloc clips of the Garand. Stripper clips are removed before closing the bolt, while en bloc clips remain in the receiver, making the motions of reloading similar to a box magazine.
