That watermark could be taken out by anyone using paint in about twenty seconds.

Yeah, the trouble with watermarks is either

a) They're not on the image, so you can just paint over them with the background colour or snip them out or
b) They are on the image and ruin it.

Though I've seen some from IGN are just a slight shift from the background colour you can't really see it unless you're looking for it (I think it's a photoshop template of some kind that slightly alters the colours it's placed over). This had one rather infamous consequence when Capcom couldn't find a file copy of the boxart to a game they were re-releasing:

Look in front of the wolf's mouth if you can't see it. And yes, it was actually released in stores like that.

True, but removing it shows clear intent to violate copyright. ANY watermark can be removed with enough skill and time in Photoshop. All we have to do is show the original image WITH the watermark and per DMCA rules, the site must remove it. You can never STOP piracy, but you can take steps to PROVE piracy after the fact.

I know of a couple people who do use our images for private use. They are not trying to get fame and fortune off of our work. People like that I don't mind. Moviemaster1993 and the person who uses the IMFDB name on Youtube I have nothing but dislike for.

Ive posted on gun forums but gave credit to imfdb/source if given to us by outside. this on the other hand is theft. Hope its taken off his pathetic site soon, how did op find that site anyway?

How can you be sponsored by a wiki?

Hah! This came up before but that was me. I enjoy watching Starcraft and threw them a few bucks and asked them to mention imfdb. (:

A part of me wants to give into the child in me and go over to Moviemaster's new wiki and vandalize the hell out of it, throwing up pages and deleting his crap, but since I'm an adult, I'll refrain from thinking that. I am better than him.

Evil Tim 07-15-2011 12:04 AM

Plus that you'd be putting more effort into vandalising it than he put into making it. Those few big articles he has for videogames are copy-pastes from those games' Wikia sites, sometimes with a few extra spelling errors thrown in.

That's weird, a part of me wants to go there just to correct stuff, like capitalizing the "M" in Modern Warfare. That thing is driving me crazy.
