It's been a year since I posted this topic and I still have the 4506, even though I don't shoot it. So I'd say that that means, it's probably going to be with me for a while.

As for it being my Grandfather's gun - he wanted to sell it for years but never got around to it. He almost never shot it (which is why it's in such great condition).

Was he a small/normal size guy? 4506's are really a big man's gun

Sorry I didn't see this, sooner...he's about my height, 5'9". And yes, the 4506 is clearly meant for bigger people.

I think S&W's goal with the 4506 was to make the most overbuilt pistol known to man
