The dude fights warlords, Im sure he would tell rocco to just can it, besides weed is pretty weak, takes a lot to make somebody really high. Know plenty of people who used to work while high. They worked crappier and made everybody pick up the slack but could function. Now, if rocco put some salvia in....

k9870 02-15-2011 01:09 AM

cool, still say he should be drunk, explaining why hed do it.

Swordfish941 02-20-2011 05:42 PM

“Really?”

“Sure I have. I good with woman.”

Katie took out her cellular phone and dialed Greg’s mobile. She only got his voicemail. She then dialed his home number and still got his voicemail.

“Greg’s not answering his phone.”

“Don’t worry, he’s probably just in the shower.”

“I’m going to check, just to make sure. Thanks for lunch.”

Katie put the rest of her food in a Styrofoam take-away box. She walked out to her car, a red Chevrolet Caprice, and drove off to Greg’s apartment. She listened to a news program on the radio, talking about South Africa’s peacekeeping efforts in Nigeria. She turned it to another station, where some a couple of callers were talking about their deteriorating sex life.

Katie arrived at Greg’s apartment complex at around one o’clock. She took the stairs up (for the exercise), and opened his apartment with a spare key. She found Greg on the living room floor with glassy eyes and messy hair. She walked over to him, astonished.

“Greg,” she said, lightly slapping him on the face. “Gregory, wake up!”

Greg slowly lifted himself up, resting his back on the sofa. He stared at the ceiling, and then abruptly said,

“Why the fuck is Micky beating Dignam with a stick?”

“Greg, what did you do?”

“I don’t know. Rocco’s now living with me and he had dagga on him. He wanted me to try it and I did it so he could shut up about. That was some powerful stuff he had on him.”

Katie picked up a small plastic bag filled with a greenish herb. She then did an inspection of it and placed it on the table.

“I have some news for you: this isn’t dagga. It’s salvia.”

“What’s the difference?”

“Salvia has a psychological effect on your mind. It gives you a trip.”

“So it’s like acid?”

“Pretty much.”

Greg got up and walked into his bedroom. He reached into his closet and took out a 12 Gauge Mossberg shotgun and a box of buckshot shells. “Ek gaan dit stupid, die seun van ‘n teef vermoor!” he muttered under his breath, loading the shotgun. Katie then entered the room and held his arm firmly in her hand.

“Greg, going after him with a shotgun won’t resolve anything.”

“He lied to me and said it was dagga. I hope he has fun removing buckshot pellets from his leg.”

“Look, if you don’t want something like this to happen again, just get rid of the salvia.”

Greg thought about this for a minute, and then started to unload the shotgun. “Alright, we’ll do it your way.”

k9870 02-27-2011 07:43 PM

Good thing with cameos is you only need to be "random thug # 4"

S&Wshooter 02-27-2011 07:50 PM

Didn't we already talk about cameos?

k9870 02-27-2011 07:57 PM

Not for book

Swordfish941 02-28-2011 12:51 AM

Start setting up the story maybe? As apposed to just having the mercs do nothing

k9870 02-28-2011 01:33 AM

Yeah set up when they get their job, or write about it from the bad guys point of view.

How about I write a few scenes from Van Zyl's point of view?

Okay, and here's my final choice for a Van Zyl actor, Ray Stevenson:

Damn, he fits my mental image of Van Zyl very closely

Another passage:

Greg took the bag from the table and placed it into his garbage disposal. He turned it on and the bag was grinded into little bits. He sat down on his sofa and took out a cigarette. Katie joined him.

“I see you’ve shaved the animal off your face.”
“Yes, but it’ll just grow back in a few days.” He said, taking a drag. “So what are you here for?”

“I just wanted to visit you.”

“You wanna have sex?”

“No, maybe later. Anyway, there’s this new bar downtown. It’s called The Seagull’s Nest.”

“What kind of bar is it?”

“It’s a dive bar with a karaoke machine. But all in all, it’s a place to get drunk.”

Greg reached into his pocket and took out a small bottle of pills. He took two out and dry swallowed them.

“What are those?”

“Pills.”

“What for?”

“Migraines. They can be a bitch.”

“You’re abusing prescription medicine?”

“No. If I was abusing prescription medication, I be taking Dexedrine or Nembutal. I got this from a doctor.”

“I just don’t want you to die by overdose.”

“I won’t.” he said, leaning back into the couch. He stubbed his cigarette out in an ashtray.

And I'll post another passage ASAP.

Swordfish941 04-09-2011 07:36 PM

Here's another passage:

“What that noise?” Katie asked.

“Joy Division.”

“Is that a woman?”
“No, it’s a post-punk band from the late 70’s. The song that’s playing is Love Will Tear Us Apart. Ian Curtis wrote it while having marital problems with his wife and an affair with a Belgian journalist. But despite the sadness behind the song, it’s pretty good.”

“I haven’t heard of Joy Division.”

“Johnny introduced me to them. I owe him a favor for it.”

“You have any favorite bands?”

“I told you them when we first meet.”

She curled up next to him and played with his hair. “That was six years ago. And a lot of things have changed in six years.”

“Alright, if it will get you off my case. I’m a big fan of Iggy Pop. I like his solo work and the stuff he did with The Stooges. His work in the 80’s is a bit New Wave, but I can stomach it. Lou Reed is good. His stuff is very melancholy, but it relaxes your soul. Satellite of Love and Pale Blue Eyes are my personal favorites of his. Now David Bowie, he’s a fuckin’ genius. I have a lot of his albums. Anybody who tries to cover a Bowie song turns it into pure shit. The only exception to this is Seu Jorge. The guy covered his songs in Portuguese and they’re really beautiful. I like Joy Division, but it was ahead of its time. They made groundbreaking stuff, but not a lot of people appreciated them back then. Joan Jett is amazing and her voice is pretty sexy. That’s all I can think of now.”

Greg walked out of the living room and into the “workshop”. The workshop was a spare room with a boarded up window and a hardwood table. He used the room for storage and rarely been in it. Sitting on the table was a bolt-action sniper rifle.

Katie had followed him and looked at his project.

“Nice rifle.”

“Thank you. It’s a 7.62 Steyr. I’ve made some modifications to it. It now has a bipod and double set triggers.”
“You haven’t customized it that much.”

“It’s a work in progress. But this gun is extremely accurate. Almost never misses its target.”

The two of them heard the door open. Greg left the workshop and came face to face with Rocco. He scowled at him and jabbed him hard in the face.

You fucking bastard!” Greg yelled, landing another punch to his face. Rocco spat out blood mixed with saliva and drew the stiletto out of his pocket. Greg swiftly grabbed his knife hand and slammed it against the kitchen counter.
