Yeah, if you work in a gun store, you're sure to get a lot of people in there that don't know much. In some cases, it's even the staff, but the people I've dealt with are knowledgeable more often than not.

Depends on the store. I walked into our competitor and asked for .38 Super snap caps, and the clerk handed me a bag of empty .38 Special shells.

k9870 11-10-2010 01:13 PM

I was told i should buy a 5.7 since it pierces armor, like thats the main thing a gun would be used for.

I had a older lady come in to my store looking for a scope with a lighted retical because she said she was legally blind and need all the help she could get while hunting...and the usual stories of the guy that shot a deer with his 30-30 at 700yards...with open sights.

Every time I go to Cabela's, I see a black guy who really loves Hi Point guns...when we all know they are shit.

when its all you can afford i bet its a pretty nice gun. I know its the only gun we order by the case and they ALWAYS sell out. They shot but its harder to hit anything with them...very loose.

Excalibur 11-10-2010 07:46 PM

Sure, Hi Point guys are very cheap, but you could shell out a hundred more and probably get a better gun. It's just not worth being cheap with your gun that might save your life one day

k9870 11-10-2010 07:50 PM

Yeah a ruger p95 is usually 300 on sale.

Excalibur 11-10-2010 07:52 PM

Right, I'd take a Ruger handgun over a Hi Point. If I can't afford a full size, 300 ish is another for a small gun

Spades of Columbia 11-10-2010 08:22 PM

I would never be caught with one...but for $129 for a brand new gun with a life time warrenty sounds like a steal to me...even a crappy S&W sigma go for $379.

Had a shooting in my city about five years ago. Started out as a road rage inccident. The two drivers took it to a nearby parking lot. One jumped out with a big stick. The other guy pulled out a Hi-Point and shot the stick wielder four times.

Do you see what i mean...for a $129 you can defend yourself from a guy with a stick...luckily the guy didnt have a shovel or the hi-point dude would have been SOL ;)

S&Wshooter 11-11-2010 02:32 PM

If I only had ~$150 to spend on a handgun, I'd probably run by a pawn shop and buy an old .38 or a Makarov (preferably the .38 though)

Excalibur 11-11-2010 03:52 PM

129-150? For 200, I can get a Bersa or a CZ-52

k9870 11-11-2010 04:07 PM

For 200 you can get a cz52, holster, 2 mags. Hi point may function (hot or miss on reliability) but poor sights unconfortable grip and heavy gritty trigger make a horrible defensive weapon....

Nyles 11-11-2010 07:20 PM

A bad gun is better than no gun, and can still gun. I'm still shocked by all the .32 Basque autos we found in Afganistan.

k9870 11-12-2010 04:06 PM

A guy at the gunstore (customer) kept telling people not to get 1911s since theyll shoot theselves when they carry then started singing praise for the glock because it is far superior to any pistol out there.......

What a fucking dumbfuck. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING is better than the M1911 (it's just my opinion).

Spades of Columbia 11-12-2010 05:50 PM

Just had a guy in the store that wants to put a safty on his glock...i think these types of people just need to put their man pants on. The glock safties are good enough already.

Ohhh and the 1911 is the best gun ever, its not just your opinion. ;)

Should of told him to buy a 1911.

My cousin's friend who served in the USMC a few years ago told me that he was a General's bodyguard and he got to carry a tiger-striped .50 AE Desert Eagle . He also told me about how he had to cut a guy's throat with a bayonet because the guy was on top of him and his gun hand was pinned to his chest, but I'm pretty sure that's actually true because it wasn't a "yeah I totally just slit a dude's throat". It was more like "I almost died and killing the guy was so traumatic that it's one of the causes of my PTSD"

k9870 11-12-2010 07:29 PM

My friend was in special forces (para rescue) and met an operator who carried a ruger blackhawk. The guy had it in a thigh rig and would draw, finger on trigger, and fan to shoot a round, saying this was faster than other guns. e was an entry man with a PG 870. He thought it was the stupidest thing hes ever seen but the guy was still alive so......

As to 1911s, there good, but only after you spend so much money on them, and any pistol that needs to cost 1500 dollars or have a "reliability job".....

Ill go with a SIG or CZ. Maybe even a FN. But 1911s are very safe, they got manual and grip safeties and you need to be a complete dumbass to shoot yourself with one.

I heard another glock basher say that glocks suck since you need to pull trugger to disassemble. I HATE glocks and will even defend glock on this, there is no excuse to disregard basic gun safety which requires unloading. This is a human error issue not desighn fault.

I have the carbine, and it's a fun, cheap, gun to shoot. If you accept what it is (a 9mm plinker) it's a great value. If I have to use a gun to defend my life, something has gone wrong. If, out of all of my guns, I have to use the carbine, something has REALLY gone wrong.

So was this guy's name Barney "The Schizo" Ross.

k9870 11-12-2010 09:18 PM

Some people in special forces get this mentlity that there some type of uber badass and need to show it off.
