The old look really doesnt do anything for me, dont get me wrong, i hate the looks of glocks and such, but things about the 1911 get me, like the finish, and i like a little contrast in colors. Also, when a 1911 is decked out, it looks "mean."

IMHO you can't beat a pre-1917 Colt commercial production 1911 for looks.

I prefer the pre-war A1 or a post war, pre series 70 Government.

Pre-war

I agree with Predator on that one. But just recently my dad got a perfect condition GI issue .45 from 1942 in the shop. It was never issued but was intended for use during WWII. It was beautiful. My dad gave it a three pound trigger instead of the awful 8lb one it had and I was impressed. The retail for it is 2,500 dollars.

I prefer flat to arched mainspring housing.

I like the GI's too. I had a chance to bid on a WWII Colt M1911A1 I think it was a '43 (had the hardened front slide), the sights had been changed along with the trigger and mainspring. $550! I'll always regret it.

All of my three have the flat, so I don't have any experience with the arched. I do prefer the look of the flat.

Ive only held arched, all the shooting is with flat, but it looks neater. The arched looks out of place.
