Reading an article about the XM9 Pistol Trials, the S&W 459 seemed to beat the shit out of all the expensive FN, HK, and Colt pistols. Pretty good pistol, but it probably would not have been great as the M9; trigger's too heavy and the sights they would have been using are too delicate, which I reckon is a big part of why it came second in the post-trial evaluations
|
Allegedly the SIG beat them all, with the Beretta only being chosen based on its cheaper price tag.

The problem with the 459 is that it isn't really that good a fit for most people; you have to be used to it, and no way in hell is the average .mil folk that'd be issued it going to practice enough to get that proficiency and feel for it. I didn't shoot it for 6 months, and when I was finally able to I was all over the place with it just because I hadn't been able to keep practicing with it semi-regularly; imagine how bad people with no prior experience with pistols/firearms would do qualifying with it |
I wish I had a time machine so I could go back in time and kill Marquis de Sade before he began to write The 120 Days of Sodom.
That way, the world would be spared of the digesting horror that is Salo. |
/k/ sure seems to like Evil Tim; every time we come up things he's done are mentioned in one way or another

I'm making chocolate chip cookies just because it's around christmas time.

Just sent in my application package for Army OCS. I've spent nearly a year getting it ready. Moment of truth!

But I was a little annoyed that they hadn't pulled my medical paperwork a long time ago when they knew I wanted to make January's board. |
Speaking of the military, reading the chest bumping and suggestions of posters on another forum concerning what the Army's next hand gun should be is a type of self flagellation that normally you have to pay a tall woman in leather for.

A thought just occurred to me: who would win in a fight? John Wick or Vincent from Collateral?

The 92FS isn't an inherently bad gun, I personally think the main issue is that the issued 9mm FMJ ball just sucks. I love .45 as much as the next flag-waving American, but beefing up the M9 and switching to +p ammunition would likely resolve the stopping power complaints.

In a perfect world, we could purchase our own sidearms like the English allowed their officers to do.
I'd by my ass a M-45 in a heartbeat. |

Speaking of sidearms, cousin was a very heavily and specifically trained Navy Corpsman, and when they went to issue him a sidearm, they had 0 operable M9s; they figured he was fairly responsible, so they gave him a Kimber something or other they had laying around  . He ended up buying the closest thing he could get to it when he had the chance, still has it. Also, my uncle lucked out during the Vietnam war and was assigned to a VIP babysitting position on a USMC base over in California, and they issued him 2 1911's; a very nice Royal Blue Colt Government 1911 for show, and a rattletrap M1911A1 to be kept in a shoulder holster. He was specifically told to never, ever do anything with or attempt to take apart the nicer one under any circumstances |
In Vietnam, Pop carried a Model 15 in a shoulder holster that was locally made in Thailand and a -1911A1 in the standard black leather "US" holster, but we wore slung in front of him as an impromptu groin protector.

Women can no longer complain about how they know the best feeling in the world.
Women say the best feeling in the world is taking their bra off after a long day. I'm throwing a flag. You know what the best feeling in the world is? Taking your body armor off after 12 hours. |
