Id have the sights replaced probably with 3 dots night sights, not the plastic u notch. and put decal grip on the grips. And polish internals to smooth trigger. And nothing can change the grip anglee. If I ever get striker fired pistol it will be an xd. Then id get the springer precision job that makes it a 4-5 pound trigger thats very smooth with no overtravel. and some xds have night sights. Plus springer warranty and customer service behind it.

If the department has a strict firearms policy you won't. I was issued a Glock 19 back in 06. The department had Glock put night sights on all the Glocks before they were shipped. The only thing I can do to my G19 is put a rubber grip sleeve on it and put the plug in that hole in the handle.

It is stated in policy that we can't change the mechanical workings of the firearm or change out the barrel without approval from the Lt in charge of the firearms training program.

If I altered the trigger from the 5.5lb trigger to the New York trigger (for example) and got in a shooting I would be in a world of hurt. I would have violated policy and no matter how good the shoot could very possibly find myself on my own without the legal support of my department. I could possibly get fired and might even get charged by the department for something.

In the real world of police work violating policy is a very good way to get in alot of trouble.

So if you get issued a Glock you'll take it and use it. If the department allows for some modifications great, but if the department mandates the Glock stays with factory specs then that's all there is to it.

Or you could work at a department that's broke as hell and makes you buy your own gun. In Beaumont, the officers have to buy their guns and the rules are "nothing under .38 or 9mm, no magnums"

My department used to be that way until 2006. Nothing larger than 45 acp and nothing smaller than 9mm Luger. Sig, Ruger, S&W, Beretta, H&K Glock and Kimber and Colt 1911's were authorized.

In Beaumont you could have anything inside those specifications. It didn't matter what brand or how reliable it was, as long as you have a gun

You can detail strip and polish the internals of your pistol without violating policy, and you ahd night sights installed, a plus, since i hate the u notch rear. Many departments around me have a standard issue they suggest, but will allow a personal if it meets specs. Many of the ones allowing private purchase say automatics only. Backup gun can be pretty much anything and off duty you can carry pretty much anything you want, I know one cop that carrys a usp on duty than switches to a custom 1911 off. One PD switched to glocks as a standard issue but still allows a 4506 or 5906, and you can carry anyhting 9mm and up.

Whats more overrated, glock or beretta 92? Both get way more credit than deserved.
